I didn't quite understand, why in the world Yahtzee would play it on a console. Inventory and driving don't suck on the PC, among many other things. There is no other reason, to hate it other than, too little area content and enemy variety.

I didn't necessarily LOVE Borderlands, but I thought it was decent, at least. But it got REALLY boring and REALLY repetitive.

No? I enjoyed the game despite the lack of story. I like leveling up and getting better loot...

On a side note, I don't see this ending well...
Thank God I thought I was the only one to think that on both accounts.

Edit: plus I also liked the funny voice recordings from Tannis. I hope the second one adds a bit more of a story but I love the game none the less. Plus I never see Yahtzee's reviews as anything other than entertainment.
the... second 1?.................

ehm....

euh....

Ok stupidity aside he got suspended so it didn't end well

And I didn't like the game cause the mission thing is bugged
I guess your confusion comes from my poor phrasing (not a rare occurrence but not rarely is my poor phrasing fatal) I merely meant to agree with him on both points of his post. I also have a horrible tendency to never be quite satisfied with a post so I some times edit. Any way, hope that clears things up....

*Sees that he's still dead*

...oh and I forgot this

I must have played a different borderlands to you, cause the world was... well Grey is probably the most accurate way to describe it, the characters were almost non-existent, and as for the gameplay I found it to be fairly average.

That being said I disliked the game, not gonna rip on anyone who does though I must admit I was glad to see so many people shared my opinion when Yahtzee ripped on it, cause I thought I missed something until that point.
Admittedly, the plot was pretty bland, almost non-existant even, and the characters were a small part of the overall game, but the entire package just exudes this certain charisma that just draws me in.

I've always been a fan of wasteland-esque games, but Borderlands did something different with it. It has this colorful, wacky world, instead of the grey and brown of other games. I loved fighting with bandits, meeting all of these outlandish characters (even if they were rather unimportant), heck, I want as far as reading ALL of the quest dialogues, listening to audio recordings, etc.

Overall, I just found an entirely interesting experience. However, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned was horrible. Just sayin'.

It was okay.

I felt like I should have waited for it to go down in price before I bought it though.

I didn't like the lack of story, the lack of really any interaction with the characters and the lack of story. Oh wait, I said that.

Well it was so important that I count it twice.

Borderlands is good "stupid fun" for me. Normal FPS experience with lots of guns that make the bad guys go dead and pretty colors, that's what I expected and that's what I got. Worth buying right when it comes out at full price or memorable in any way? Nah. The only complaint I really have is the story. I mean, the story is BARELY there at all but it still manages to be absolutely terrible. Not the good kind of terrible either where the player can have a good laugh at the expense of the game, the soul crushing kind of terrible that makes me feel bad for supporting whoever wrote this story by buying their game.

I enjoyed the bosses you kill with their intro's but that's probably one of the only blebs of depth the game had for me, admittedly I didn't go out of my way for the recordings, nor did I read most the text for the quests as even the way it was presented bugged me, not to mention the first ones I read stood out as cheap gameplay excuses. Kinda like in Mass Effect 2 where its like 'here's a simple mission objective, but for [prettycheapreason] you have to destroy an army before you get to a relevant bit'. Also the area's look fairly generic, though the dialogue and story make it worth it... hmmm... Lost track, though it does support my argument in a way. I guess the characters were kind of interesting, in a redneck clowns with leprosy kinda way, and yet they went fairly neglected.

It was a decent RPG with no story. There has been better, it will be a forgotten game by the end of the year.

Yahtzee is often wrong about games, so it is unsurprising he was wrong about Borderlands. Honestly, him being wrong about things is such a regular occurrence I hardly felt it necessary to point out that he completely missed the point of the game.
Although, you can never be right or wrong about a game, seeing as different people will enjoy different games. It's all a matter of preference.
This sort of relativist nonsense is just that -- nonsense. Opinions can easily be wrong, or at least wrong-headed if they aren't based on facts. "I think the theory of gravity isn't correct" is an opinion AND is wrong. See?

Yahtzee's reviews are hardly if ever based on facts. More like an aggressive determination to be an asshole and amuse people who think an opinion can never be wrong.
Its generally constructed of him presenting facts about the game (explaining the mechanics, story, blah blah) and then saying his opinion of them. Yes he's an entertainer, not a reviewer and no, no one can make you like him but an opinion of a game can't be wrong in a general sense, only a personal one. Without justification an opinion is useless though, you're right there.

I thought it was a good game solely on the basis of concept. The story line was what ultimately made it unsatisfying.

I found it O.K when playing solo and pretty good when playing with friends.
Was light on story but I didn't regret buying it.

People agreeing with Yahtzee on The Escapist what a rare occurrence

Yahtzee's reviews, although entertaining, are in no way supposed to be taken seriously as insight for the quality of the game itself. For New Super Mario Brothers Wii he spent more time bitching and moaning about how it was backtracking to the days of 2D rather than making anything resembling a legitimate argument. It reminded me of a six year-old saying that a game is shit because it was stream-lined enough rather than point out its flaws. His entire basis for as of why the game was by can be summed up in six words: It's the same so it sucks. His review reminded me of the review style of several staff members on Pitchfork Media, and that's a really bad sign.

My issue with it so far, beyond the bland environments and characters is that I don't feel like I'm getting powerful, at least not at a satisfactory rate.

In Diablo, you start weak and get stronger and stronger at a very satisfying pace. When strong, you can go back to monsters that used to give you a hard time and smite them with a single smash. Here, they level the monsters up with you, so, I'm not getting that, "Conan couldn't keep up with me" feeling I'm looking for.

On the plus side, I do like the style of the graphics. I'm looking forward to some of the upgraded guns, but, if they don't kill bad guys any better than did the guns I started out with, what was all the effort about?

That wouldn't be a problem with a strong story, varied environment and gameplay. This game doesn't have those.
