Is it just me or is this tiresome nonsense where people expect you to justify positions you never held becoming more common online?

Particularly with certain corners. Like support something certain people don't like and bam! They expect it to fit with every SJW thing they ever heard and if it doesn't it must be hypocrisy.

I dunno, maybe I'm just sick of that stupidity. Is it even genuine or just a tactic to be a nuisance?

If they were I'd open up the console commands and delete a good many... Unless someone else is the PC in which case I'd better stay in their good graces

This NPC right here. I like him.

But yeah, I've stopped associating posts with Avatars on most forums. Everyone is an NPC until they endear themselves to me somehow.

Quick, I need twelve jade octahedrons to heal my son so he can give you this rare third of a bronze scepter to level your DEF by 1.

It's easier for people to attack a position of their creation than one of your own.

It's a common tactic amongst a particular crowd, often the only response to it is to do it back to them, and usually they're the first to cry it's unfair.

Honestly I cant think of a large crowd of people who dont commonly do it
It's called "straw manning" and anyone who thinks it is isolated to "a particular crowd" is laboring under a confirmation bias the size of Jupiter.

I thought it's more to do with what people think those labels you give yourself imply.

Like SJW for example, you call yourself that and I might think you support other-kin, but you might not.

They don't know anything about you, you need to clarify your position before labeling yourself.

I've got a pretty sweet-ass chocolate chip cookie recipe and am incredibly fiscally irresponsible if it directly benefits someone else, is that enough?

But now that I mentioned the recipe, I just know the PC is going to break into my house and steal it/kill me and my family on a whim/steal our TV and all of our potatoes.

If tghat's true, why isn't it letting me loot them?

...I mean, you're not wrong, but the 'particular crowd' kinda makes this an ironic example of it really.
I really wish I could remember in which Jimquisition Jim made a statement, paused for several seconds, and then said only "self awareness!"

There are moments where I would really like to bust it out.

As to the rest of your comment, I'm not even sure it's about winning, so much as entertaining your base.

And ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?

Or however that quote goes.

Thats because there isn't one. People resort to logical fallacies all the time. Our brains are just that way. We can try to avoid using logical fallacies, but we have a natural tendency towards them.
Particularly, we're geared towards pattern recognition and pattern recognition sees more benefits from a false positive than a false negative. And we're geared towards binary, "us and them" thinking.

Personally, I'm a fan of Harry Ray. His "Friday Fallacies" series is informative and well-spoken. He gives examples, details the fallacy, and often how to attempt to counteract the thinking. Plus, his voice is amazing:

(I couldn't find one relative to this topic quickly, so I opted for one common in the gaming community)

He just makes the stuff so accessible.

Dude, I've got my own sweet-ass chocolate chip recipe, I don't need YOURS!

As for TVs and potatoes, I'm set thanks. Your stuff is safe.

...I like how I assume I'm the Player Character. I tend to prefer support roles most of the time, so at best I'm the "Plucky Comic relief sidekick" XD

I'm not required to defend things I dont' represent. I might theorize for interest's sake, but there's no personal stake in it and I'm not wrong if IT'S wrong.

I think its simply a result of being online. Some folk tend to blend together in threads and the like. In real life, you have a ton more cues to remember who is saying what and when. You have a location, their name, their face, their clothing, your clothing, environmental lighting, etc. Online space, you have a small avatar, a username and dozens of different people posting one after another. Our brains didn't evolve to work in digital spaces, they evolved to work in tangible space.
I totally agree. I think a lot of time people always attribute this to maliciousness or bad faith, but I think its something all of us do inadvertently at one point or another.

I can't count the number of time's I've made a post only to have someone draw a parallel to GG, either as some weak attempt to get someone to start dragging GG down as well or simply to imply some form of hypocrisy, even though I don't support either side.
