Who gets a movie? Of that guy? I forgot he was still relevant to anyone. I guess hollywood continues its long tradition of being late to the party, then.

Is it April 1st yet?

DON'T DO IT SCARLETT! DON'T DO IT!

This sounds really boring. And I don't want my favorite actress to be anywhere near an inevitable disaster.

I'm wondering how they got the rights to this, I thought she was adamant about leaving the past in the past?
But money.

That's a bad idea for a movie covering something that should be long dead.

I suppose if Chelsea Van Valkenburg wants to retain a shred of relevance, this film is imperative. I mean, it's not like Crash Override is up to much or anyone is holding their breath for her to produce a decent video game.

From a few comments in this thread, it's clear that anti-GG loves the idea. Why would that be? Oh right, it's a piece of fiction where the writer will be in complete control of the narrative. A beautiful parody of the current state of games journalism. Can we get Nathan Grayson as marketing director?!?

You know what? Fuck it, I hope it's happening. I basically have no confidence in Hollywood these days, so at best it'll be a boring, poorly grossing dull waste of 90 minutes that'll be forgotten about in a fortnight or it'll end up being so fascinatingly horrible that it'll rival The Room in terms of bile fascination.

I mean, argue who disliked the Law and Order episode more all you want, one of the things both sides agree on is that it's probably one of the most mind-boggling silly things put on television and some people were able to enjoy the stupidity of it.

I'll say the same thing I said last night: I hope it does the decent thing and portray everyone involved on all sides as malicious, incompetent, morally bankrupt, or a combination of the above.

Something like this ought to have an over-the-top twist like it being directed by Michael Bay. That would be frigging hilarious.

Now Critical Miss needs to do a comic of Quinn becoming the Emperor of WH40K.
The comments alone would be worth it.

Could you imagine this 50 minutes into the film?

*Scene 24: Safe Space;
It's a dreary February morning in a San Francisco coffee shop. Zoe Quinn flips through her twitter account, and sighs.

Hundreds of messages, at least one of them sent by Gamergate. Their thunderclaps echoing like the storm brewing outside. Randi Harper is sitting across from her, and asking for money, claiming that to stay in San Francisco you need $3000 a month for rent, and Randi's only getting half of that on Patreon. Quinn orders another double-frappa-what-the-fuck and tries to let her unemployable ass down gently, when the two of them hear a rumble.

It's Brianna Wu on a motorcycle.

She walks into the small parlour with a helmet in one hand and phone in the other. "Oh, that old thing? $13,000, thanks to my Patreons"

Randi is looking more blue than usual at that, sipping from her mug of male tears.
[Cue montage of tweets and website banners flying over people's heads]
"So anyway, I think it's clear that I'm Gamergate's number 1 enemy." Says Brianna.
"Excuse me?" Quinn asks.
"Have you seen my Patreon? It dwarfs the rest of yours, huh?" she checks her phone. "Got another interview lined up, and some /r/Gamerghazi moderating to do!" she says, hair billowing as she braces the storm outside.

The two technocrats look at each other and sigh. Suddenly Randi perks her head up. "I have an idea"

To be continued in.....
Scene 25: Crash Override*

Seriously though, I've got nothing against the movie being made. I doubt it will be profitable though, and from the looks of it "Zoe's Jilted Ex" is gearing up for a libel suit over it.

It's going to be hard to translate online harassment to a film I reckon. Don't get me wrong, it's a horrible thing, but from a visual standpoint wouldn't it just be a lot of shots of her sitting at a computer reading disgusting tweets and messages?
Hmmm...it would...cut to people who like angrily shouting what they are typing when they are posting about raping her, I guess?

4chan would have an absolute blast with this. It would provide about 15 years worth of memes. Other than them I can't really see who would give a shit. Quinn has some legit fans I guess, but I think she is followed in equal measure by haters and fans.

I guess Zoe Quinn is one of the people on the other side of gamergate?

Interesting situation. Today I was exposed to the inner workings of an organization that had recently suffered a case of sexual harassment within it's ranks. While my first instinct was obviously: "How disgusting, the perpetrator shouldn't even be mentioned let alone allowed to continue existing within the organization", another person present in the room questioned the role the organization had to play in the controversy, as it happened in private time and they thought it was therefore outside the organization's jurisdiction.

You know what, I just can't understand people who try to mince words about sexual harassment and related situations. Why people have to gall to start trumpeting concepts like free speech and jurisdiction as some kind of counter argument to the appeal of women to be granted more equality.

I mean why do people even feel a need to close ranks about this? I mean, sticks and stones right? The internet seems to have completely failed the time-honored expression of inner strengths "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" largely because words are all that we have these days. Why do people think a woman's appeal for respect is cause for a counter-attack of alternate liberal values? Shouldn't all liberal values have a simple and shared ultimate objective of a better, more tolerant world?

Frankly, it's all just a flame war. I am sure some girls have waded in for their part with some pretty unimpressive contributions just as often as men, but I think none of this should ever have happened. I'm not a chauvinist or even a less extreme form of sexist, so none of those accusations ever bothered me. One has to ask therefore exactly why they bothered so many other people?

It reminds me of a controversy in Australia a few years ago when our neo-Nazi government attempted to make it legal - like, by government edict - for people to be bigots. Like someone wanted to write legislation that legalized hate speech and hate mongering because, like, it was in the name of free speech. It was really because of neo-Nazi government wanted to garner as many extreme votes as possible because those kind of votes are money in the bank when it comes to election time. My reaction to it was: What's the point? Why go out of your way to support something that is clearly an example of the lowest reaches of human nature?

I ask the same rhetorical question about people who take objection to female gamers seeking more respect.

That's a detached opinion, though. I'm not going to go and seek out all the quotes for either side, the back and fourth, I'm not going to listen to 'he said' and 'she said', my basic position will remain: There's no point in taking a stand against gender equality, no matter how it is packaged. Let's all go kill ISIS like dogs.

I don't watch 98% of the movies released these days so I'm alright leaving this one for the catcher/wicketkeeper and waiting for the next pitch/ball.

Can we just get a feature length Law and Order movie based on it? On one hand they'll be shoving stupid shit down our throats, on the other, the SVU team will be well worth the price of admission because of how stupid they can get and possibly enjoyment from their suffering. It's a Win-Win if you want to see how much they can shit fling. Mix it in with their other video game episodes and maybe some of their other outings on communities the writers feel like shit flinging and you've got a 11/10 movie right there.

Also, a summary of the episode for those who haven't seen the GG one.
