After clearing a room of like 500 bad guys, 500 more spawn out of nowhere. Frustrating. As. Hell.

Fair enough, platforming games are supposed to have platforming after all, but it really doesn't belong in any other genre. I am suddenly reminded of the HL1 Xen level *shudders*
Wouldn't know about that, I'm not a big fan of Valve in general (with the possible exception of Portal). Still, I agree with the principle behind your statement - platforming can be very annoying when it's a fish out of water.

1. Level design not making sense
I blow a hole in a wall via some means, and behind it is a storeroom. With no doors, windows, or vents. What did they do? Build the room, stock it, then brick it over? How much extra effort would have it taken to add an in-operable door? Or a goddamn room shoved off some precarious catwalk, which can only be reached via jumping from another catwalk, are workers expected to do this daily?

2. Shitty Elevators
Because I just love being stuck in a unimaginative whirring metal coffin for a minute. Elevators are actually a fond love of mine in games, I take needless rides on them just because, especially if they have the cheesy music to go with it. But they need windows, or at least grating to look out of at the skyline/shaft/whatever. Bonus points for complex shafts. Box elevators that probably don't even actually move just tarnish this love.

3. Bees!
OH GOD THERE STINGING MY EYES! Basically, swarm type undamage-able enemies. Acceptable when they're only released by your own damn stupid fault. (SS2 Coop, bastards kept setting off the swarm pods, then we all screamed beeeeesss! and ran around like idiots till the things died of fear or something.)

4. Product Placement In Games
I'm looking at you BAWLS ENERGY DRINK

5. No difficulty adjust/Can't change difficulty mid-game/unlock-able difficulty
Hate when I can't change the difficulty, I like to play on easy first, just to enjoy the game at first, then switch to the hardest later on. Hate when easy turns out to easy, and I have to restart to change it. Also, why do I have to play the game so many times just to play on the hardest setting, unless it's a setting called RADISH ADVENTURE, in which case it's a good thing :shudder:

Absolutly loved the difficulty settings in System Shock, could set it so the whole game was on a time-limit, enemies repopulated like they were spliced with rabbits, took a shitload of shots to kill, and puzzles were practically impossible; or so that all doors start unlocked and no story elements are present, everything dies in a single hit and is non-hostile, puzzles don't exist, and things never re-spawn. That level of customization made up for being unable to change it.

Mainly when you as soon as an enemy appears on the screen, they'll shoot and know where you are, even if you're crouching behind something behind them.

Oh and Escort missions, especially with stupid AI

Escort missions, especially ones where my escortee only moves at gunpoint. I'm staring straight at you, Jedi Outcast.

Games that never explaine to controls to you when you play on the PC.
I still don't know how to bring up the menu in valve games, so I agree.

Games don't really do much that annoys me, such a job is suited more to other players

When you are cruising through the game, and then suddenly, an impossibly difficult boss shows up. This happens to be the only thing I have against FFXIII (I fucking hate you Odin!)

"Alright, son. We need you to escort Mr. Johnson over here to the control panel to stop the missiles."
"What? Why? He's going to get himself killed!"
"Damn it, boy! Just follow orders!"
"Why can't he stay here and we go there and we use the radio?"
"Nonsense. It's too far for radios."
"Too far?! The control room is only a mile away! The range on the radios are 20 freaking miles!"
"Just do it! Oh, and yes you will have to try again several times because Mr. Johnson will walk into the line of fire, he will run to the terrorists instead of away from them, he will block doors, he will get stuck on ladders, he will walk in walls and end up getting stuck in the corner that just happens to be 5 feet away from that grenade you threw."

In short...fucking escort missions.

Kill 1000 of creature X in order to collect item Y.

That's not a quest, it's an extermination. Why are exterminations so boring by the way? I mean at first you enjoy every kill but after 15 or so it just gets tedious.

Escort missions where you're running top-speed to get it the fuck over with, and the mothertrucker you're supposed to escort it just dawdling around five miles behind you.

Also, super-random QTEs.

Oh.

I see my good friend here has already pointed out my main one, so I'll go with this: Weak final bosses. A game where you can glide through level wise and still beat the final boss with ease is doing something wrong, why was this badguy a threat when it was easy to beat him?

They should have them based on your level so you can win, but have to win with effort.

The thing that pisses me off the most is QTE's. They work well at times... But the ones where you need to button mash your control into shards are hell. I just can't ram my control into dust fast enough for the game to care. 2008's Prince of Persia is a prime example. Defeating the Warrior was hell. I had to ask for help to beat him.
