I am a Pakistani Muslim man, you probably think I should be just killed just for being that, "it would be nothing compared to what the victims of 911 felt". What about the victims of Salala check post who were fighting your war and then were killed by your army? What about the victims of Raymond Davis? In both cases, just like the airlines, the US government refused to even apologize.
It is exactly this kind of discrimination that angers Muslims and serves as a recruiting tool for the terrorists.
To be fair, if we have people joining terrorist groups because somebody said something they don't like, the bigger problems is those people, not the offender who made a controversial comment.
This is going way off topic but they don't join because of one comment or speech, but because of a lot of comments, speeches and actual attacks; all of which the terrorists use in their propaganda. They actually use it to collect funds on Eid and Ramadan, if not volunteers. A lot of people go to Eid prayers and even a small percentage of them giving Rs 10-20 to these guys can do a lot of damage, probably more so to us Pakistanis than to the US.
I have seen them do it in my neighborhood outside the mosque I go to (although I didn't see anyone actually giving them money most of them just ignored them) and I really really wanted to give them a beating but there were always too many people around and it could have gotten really bad if they actually had weapons and backup.

You don't need to have your entire 5 head family sat next to each other, just one dude or woman with the kid(s).
Which implies that there must be more than one free seat in a row.

It's hard to do that on trains, let alone planes. I think it mostly depends on the airlines and the business of the airports. Anyway, just like my experience doesn't apply to you, your experience doesn't apply to everyone else either - there are times when people must be parted to book flights.

Also, kids flying alone.

This is the kind of thing I would expect from Japan

The text translates to something like "Beware of Perverts"
which is apparently a big problem over there from what I hear.

Not something I would imagine in the U.S

And in regards to children traveling alone while I have never done it my mother has and she has told me stories of how one time she even stayed overnight at one of the flight attendants house because of a storm and it really wasn't unexpected I guess its more a times have changed thing.
personally I wouldn't get to up in arms about it I mean sure its an inconvenience and I am sure you could probably count on one hand how many times an incident has occurred but if It prevents at least one from happening then really I think it was worth it.

HEY GUYS SOME PEOPLE ARE DICKS TO MEN
LET'S HATE ON FEMINISTS

Really, guys? Again? Time to pull out the canonical "extremists exist in every group" comment and then book it out of this thread.

I wonder who had the excellent idea of pissing off plenty of genuine human male customers in order to counter the pitifully small population of child molesters willing to molest a child on a packed plane.

(I know molesters are human as well, you know what I mean).

While I'm not sure what the current definitions of molestation and rape are by the us gov't in crimes, I always thought that there were more women molesters than men, because women lack certain... instruments to rape someone. but anyways, this is just companies trying to cover their asses against lawsuits, consumer rights be damned.

The worst part is that they have this technology where seats are handed out before they board the plane, so there's no need to ever humiliate anyone.

IF YOU DIDN'T WANT HIM SITTING THERE WHY DID YOU HAVE HIM SIT THERE

It's less "They join because people offended them" and more "They join because they are filled with an intense hatred, oftentimes one stoked by repeated harassment, abuse, and disempowerment." I'm pretty sure most terrorists don't just have hurt feelings.

This is wildly offensive. Women can be molesters as well, so why pick a particular sex? Here's a alternative. seat kids close to where the stewardess and stewards are, so they can watch em. Its not that difficult. And its not like I have heard of any pedophile acts happening on the plane anyways.

If they asked me to move seats to avoid that, I would be pissed as hell, for the poor guy treated like a criminal.

Wow, as if flying wasn't miserable enough, now we all have to be looking out for Creepy Uncle Touchy?
I've flown as an unaccompanied minor back in the day, and they put me right up at the front of the plane, as close to that flight-attendant seat as you can get, so they could keep an eye on me. I thought it was standard practice to place unaccompanied kids where the flight attendants could be close by. If the parent is on the plane, they should be sitting next to the kid, but that's just common sense.
Also, how is some pedophile going to get his jollies off if they can barely move, what with being crammed in those planes like sardines in a can?
Same, people asking the 'wtf minor alone omg irrisponsibul!!' Please stop. Sometimes there are extenuating circumstances. I flew alone when I was 12. And the procedure was that was to sit in the front row in constant view of the attendants. That's IT. Nothing more should be required.

This policy is ludicrous and the airline should either outline a case where this has been an issue or get rid of it. If parents are not comfortable being unable to choose whom their child sits next to before the flight takes off they should either go themselves or just trust that the airline follows what they said they'd do which is keep an eye on your child during the flight (usually on long flights you even pay extra for this)

Also people going to extremes in this topic about the sheer outrage and how life is being increasingly unfair to all males der dee der! Please calm down also. I don't think I see any rational arguments against this policy being anything short of insane. The SAME reaction was given when the topic was posted on a another forum I saw... a month ago.
We get it, you feel suffocated just because there are some loud feminists on forums and legislature is going through a major transition period where gender equality is being extremely focused on and issues are coming to light, but these things do not reflect life all the time.
I've been given dirty looks for daring to interact with children as well! And all I did was just wave and smile. I'm not male.

The levels of paranoia from parents is saddening but they're not all to blame, media relentlessly assaults them with all the horrible things that can happen to their child and the fear creeps up on them. A policy like this is usually bred from that fear, and the rational side of it isn't clear until it hurts someone, and of course when that realization settles in it looks absolutely daffy.

Regardless of what sex was outlined here, the case in point is that the policy sucks anus. For a multitude of reasons.

Feminism fails to explicitly denounce the extremists amongst them in an effort to distance themselves from the feminazi stereotype, in comparison to the initiative possessed by other groups/ideaologies (political, religious, etc) to dismiss their respective radicals. It's fair that there exists a consequence for their passivity.
