Who says I'd want to save humanity? Most people are fucking worthless!
Typical thoughtless retard who thinks hes a cynic because he watches Yahtzee's videos. What about the ones you love, and if nothing else what about yourself
Okay, listen. I can understand why you see me as a retard. You seem to have a negative attitude toward most if not all of the "It's not worth saving" crowd. However, I want you to think about it for a second. What good has humanity done for anyone other than itself? Ever since we industrialized the world, all we have done is slowly contaminate and destroy the planet in order to give ourselves luxurious privileges. Hell, sometimes we even kill OTHER HUMANS for these luxuries. To other potential inhabitants of the Milky Way, we would be seen as a self-serving, uncaring race.

To be honest, I know that myself and my loved ones are a part of the degradation of the planet as well. We're just a few out of the conglomerate of 6.5 billion, but it's not to be overlooked. I'd sacrifice myself if that meant purging the Earth of the human parasite as it is described today.

Also, I was a cynic LONG before I discovered The Escapist, and even before I discovered Zero Punctuation. Stop assuming you know what I'm like, what I think, and how I feel toward humanity.
The earth has survived much more punishing things than humans. All we are doing is speeding up our own demise, which is fine. But I'm in no hurry to end it all tomorrow, hold onto what we still have.

Well they'll either be the ones with the big death laser pointed at us OR the only ones able to save us from an impending apocalypse of some sort. So I'd probably veto that question till afterwards.

OT: Nyan Cat, the full 3 hour version.

What do you say/do?

You've all probably seen movie/game (coughgreenlanterndaytheearthstoodstillcough) where aliens debate on whether they should commit to sparing/saving Earth.

I figure this is probably a difficult question for pessemistics.
('pessimists')

To the alien that asked me to prove to him that my species is 'worth saving', i would respond "fuck you, you impossibly judgmental prick."

I can understand that. Every living creature naturally want their life to go on. Why else would they try so hard to resist death? But my view on the matter is that we shouldn't choke and strangle the Earth much more than we already have. We have the means to change our traits of pollution and war, so I think we should utilize those means and make the Earth a better place for everyone, or ultimately be destroyed in a swift and clean manner.

simple. pop tarts and monster trucks are mans greatest inventions. plus we have the capacity to do anything. horrible atrocities and the greatest of good all wrapped up in the same species. if we're not anything, we're at least fun to watch

"You can't blow up the world. That's where I keep all my stuff. But before you destroy us, look at a few episodes of MLP:FiM. Can a species that came up with Fluttershy be that bad?"

"We're the guys in the spaceship sporting the super-civilization. We move the stars dipshit. While your race is mostly a semi-illiterate oil-dependent monkey who can't even take care of one planet. Enjoy your fiber-optics, hahaha" *flies off to live and prosper*

What ... too dark?

Send them a care package including a copy of the New Testamet and the Koran, two live baby rabbits, two teenagers in love, a green chicken egg weighing 2 grams, a picture of the Eiffel tower, and a bit of asorted bric-a-brac. Either they get it or they don't.
Didn't get it myself, but sending them the Quran and the New Testament to have them fighting amongst themselves sounds like a great idea.
Pretty words, other pretty words, something adorable (which is unique to Earth), something passionate [albeit stupid], something strange and wonderful (unique to earth), a kickass building (unique to Earth), and whatever else is nice that's unique to Earth. The message being "Here's some really cool stuff we did, don't blow us up. Or at least take all that stuff with you."

My first question is by what basis they judge us worthy of destruction.

I then answer based on their answer. It will most likely have to do with the moral advancement of the human race over the last century.

Seriously through, you would really expect better from an "advanced" species. What kind of culture just goes around wiping out those that don't conform to their cultural standards. Especially when the ones that don't conform are locked onto a small little planet tucked away in another corner of the universe without a means to interact with them on any terms but their own.

Did I just inadvertently imply that people can't stop sticking there noses where they don't belong, and we would all be better off if they did stop? I think I did.
Yeah, I don't think any species could possibly be as inquisitive and warmongering as humans are. This discussion is probably pointless because, if anything, an alien species would want our planet for its ability to sustain life. And unless they show up tomorrow, our planet is going to be hopelessly, irreparably damaged by then, making it absolutely useless to them. Chances are that if any aliens have found us, they are watching and studying from afar to observe first hand the slow suicide of a species.
