I live out in the country anyways. Guns, water, ammo and food aren't an issue around here. Not to mention we have the tactical upper hand of knowing the terrain, and knowing how to fight in it.

Except you haven't answered anyone's questions. Are these 'Independence Day' aliens? Reavers? 'War of the Worlds'? Are they here to enslave or destroy? Are they killing at will or saying: "Bring us to your leader."? Are they attacking from space or sending in fighters? Are they landing troops? Are they attacking major cities or the countryside, too? Are they just attacking One state, one country, or one continent at a time or the entire planet including hundreds of major cities and thousands of smaller cities ALL AT ONCE?!?Froggy Slayer said:

The first thing I would want to confirm is "Are they going to kill us all?" and then I would see what the government will do whilst I gather people, supplies, weapons and information. Then by the time they will be killing everyone/whatever we'll be ready and fight back.

I will confront the aliens head on, wearing nothing and holding only a hammer in one hand and lube in the other, lets see the kind of reaction that gets.
I am assuming that Humanity is the more aggressive species. I am then assuming that the Aliens are coming here out of desperation (they are in a war or something) and can't afford to lose to many of their numbers. After this I am assuming that us being more aggressive we have better weapons technology (or maybe they just are deploying their heavier weapons elsewhere). After this I am assuming we have detected them on Radar. After this I am assuming that the alien ships are traveling in small numbers. Mostly trying to have a covert war so as to avoid awaking the sleeping giant that is the United Nations.
After this I am assuming that the UN have consolidated all their representatives to give military access to an underground organisation. This Organisation will be funded by the governments and be reverse-engineering alien technologies. Also the aliens shall launch "terror missions" to try and prove that the organisation is incapable of defending Earth and at the same time building bases as well. Then I am assuming that humanity is actually more advanced than the Aliens but the reasons the aliens have more powerful equipment and interstellar travel is because of access to materials that are not found on Earth. And this/these materials are relied upon in order for the Aliens equipment to run.
Now assuming all of this. I would sit back and let the governments secret 'organisation' deal with the threat.

Me? I don't believe it until multiple major news sites confirm it and have live video. Then I sit an watch to see what happens, like the rest of the world that isn't immediately killed. Humans can't compete with FTL tech wielding aliens, so sit back and see what happens.
