I would have more faith if they mentioned getting other developers to help them out. I was skeptical with Space Marine but look how great that turned out with the help of devs that were experienced in making such games.

I'm going to be optimistic and say the game looks good, sounds good, and if I am still into gaming by then (I'm on the wane again), I would hope the game will be good enough to play.

I ran into this issue with Duke Nukem Forever, even if A:CM is bad, we need to keep an open mind, hopefully, it will be better, and there is nothing saying it can't be.

I don't like that it's an Xbone or PS4 or PC game, because I do not plan to upgrade, but it makes sense, and it could certainly turn out like Arkham Asylum did, Rocksteady wasn't a company with great expectations, and look how the first Batman game was. Arkham City, not so much, but Asylum? Magnificent. I say give it a chance, at least it's not canon and trying to be anything other than being Outlast...
IN SPACE!
It's going to be on the last generation of consoles too so no need to upgrade my friend...

Of course it's convenient but it's also a character that hasn't been explored that they can do awesome things with, so don't be too scared of that.
Thing is, as far as I remember, Ripley's daughter isn't really a character. She's a placeholder and an idea - not a person. The most she does to approach being a character is a picture of her and a few lines of dialogue about her life in the opening of Aliens.

I just checked youtube and found this video.

Married, no children, and lived to a ripe old age. So I guess that at least the part of the plot that she's supposed to survive the game is spoiled, but thats okay. What I'm more concerned about now is the fact that it doesn't seem to make sense that she went out into the void, encountered a xenomorph, and seemingly nobody ever found out about her involvement with one. But other than those three initial facts, we know nothing substantial about Amanda Ripley. On top of that, it takes 15 years for anybody to go looking for her (there's ways around this, I'm sure, but I've yet to see it from Creative Assembly), and only one person goes looking for her. I understand that Ripley's daughter was a child, so thats why there was a gap, but realistically, don't you think any friend or family from somebody on the Nostromo went looking earlier? I mean, these are things that can be written around and actually used as a plot device (I can already see at least two ways this explains her being completely alone), but at the moment it just strikes me as shoehorning Ellen Ripley into the game when its totally unnecessary, and I'm quite frankly very skeptical of any writer to do something half decent with this IP anymore.
There's an easy way to explain them now just going after her. She was on contract mining for probably a long time. When she didn't pop back up after her contract expired a while ago, they send someone who is capable and would (conveniently) have the passion to search for her. As someone who writes games myself. It is SIGNIFICANTLY easier to put in an established idea, then start a whole new one.

Apparently, they hired a whole new team to Creative Assembly that specifically do Survival Horror.

Sounds good but the question is then who? I'll find it myself don't worry, you've already elevated this game for me.

I was meaning to make a thread about Colonial Marines to answer this very simple question - is it really that bad? Haven't played it myself but it seems like one of those band wagon hate trains everybody jumps aboard without really playing it or even feeling very strongly about it. It mostly just looks mediocre. Did anybody NOT hate the game?
Hello, my name is Francisco Guerra and I really liked Colonial Marines.

Here's the thing: I'm a HUGE Aliens nerd. I love the movies and own a few exclusive items myself. Since I wanted to avoid spoilers, I never watched the infamous trailer, so I didn't have the dubious pleasure of having that as a comparison to the actual game. But when I got the game, based on people's opinions, I was prepared for a train wreck...

... and what I found instead was a game that, although far from a masterpiece, was still a hell of a lot of fun, and one which I still play on multiplayer with a friend. Hell, I even bought the DLC for it!

I saw the complains and videos about technical issues and glitches... well, I never ran into a single one, playing it on the PS3!

I saw the complains the game was 'too easy'... but I played it on Ultimate Badass (I tend to go for the higher difficulty) and found it to be quite challenging, especially without the HUD.

I saw the complains about the story... and it's no Shakespeare, but it's also not the worst thing this side of AvP.

I saw the complains about the game having human enemies... but Alien Trilogy, Infestation and a few others critically acclaimed Aliens games also have human enemies and no one complained about those.

In all, I found it to be a case of bandwagon hatred. Hell, most of the people whom I talked to about the game and were ragging on it eventually admit to never even having played the thing!

So yeah... my name is Francisco Guerra, and I liked Colonial Marines.

I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that it's also coming out on PS3 and 360.

Yeah, on this very site, about the game not coming out on the WiiU:

"While releases for PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One and PC have all been confirmed, Creative Assembly and Sega haven't given much lip service to the Wii U"

Right now, I'm just gonna sit back and see how this turns out. If it turns out to be good I'll buy it and if it's bad well the Alien Franchise will be dealt another painful blow that will make it impossible to gain costumer interest.
Haven't played A:CM. It's three quid second hand now so I might pick up a copy just to see what all the fuss was about.

At the end of the day, a developer is making a game.
We won't know if it's any good until it's released.
After A:CM you'd be wise not to pre-order it.
But lets wish the developers success, no one sets out to make a bad game.

I would be wary of any game in development for more than four years, especially not a licensed game. To be afraid of a game just for having Aliens in it seems to be totally missing the point of what development hell really means.

On the subject though, never heard of it, and don't really care one way or another. I only saw like one Aliens movie (two if Prometheus counts).

I don't like the fact that's its gonna be about Ripley's daughter. I mean, come on. She's been in the movies for like what, 2 minutes? I smell a case of "MUST. MAKE. CONNECTION. TO. RIPLEY." Ugh.
Well what's wrong with that? A character like Ripley's daughter SHOULD be important.
