So I was browsing Imgur a few hours ago and I saw these two galleries:
http://imgur.com/a/8czT5?gallery
http://imgur.com/a/4Q7m9?gallery

I'm not the manliest man, not by a long shot. I admit that I spent at least two hours crying and smiling at the same time.

It got me wondering: What would the world be like if the majority of people were like this? We could do so much good. I truly think that the world would be better off like that.

Instead of starting wars, we start uniting. Instead of judging people, we embrace them with open arms. Instead of harbouring hatred, we harbour love.

I know that the last one sounded cheesy but I'm pretty much writing down whatever comes into my head first.

Volunteering at the SPCA. Feeding the homeless. Smiling at somebody that looks unhappy. Every little thing can change someone's life in more ways than we can possibly imagine.

So... what is your take on this? Total BS? Or can we really make a difference?

P.S. Sorry if the title is misleading. I honestly couldn't come up with a better title. And I apologise if something like this has already been done here. I don't make threads very often so it's a bit confusing for me.

Don't want to come across as cynical, because those were really nice stories, but this is really facebook-y. Like, I'm pretty sure I've seen all of those on facebook multiple times.
I don't use Facebook so it's my first time seeing these :p

It's less about the stories themselves and more about what we can learn from them.

We can learn that every now and then, humanity doesn't overwhelmingly suck.

"A little fish told me to just keep swimming" got me good, right in the feels.

I'd love to see a day where we don't kill people because some of their physical features are slightly different than ours, or because their philosophical, ideological, or spiritual beliefs are different, or just because we felt like being big bastards. I don't know if that day will ever actually pass, but I'd like to see it.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu videos are a good way of getting a strange sense of catharsis as well, actually.

Not quite as heartfelt and sappy as any of those images, but it serves to make you feel good without exactly knowing why. :D

Agreed with it all, except for the "smiling at people who look unhappy" part.

When I'm unhappy, I certainly don't want to be reminded that other people are happy. Grrr.

Alot of those were very nice. But one of them... really hit me in the feels. I mean, REALLY hit me in the feels.

Yesterday, my Mom brought up that our dog, who we've had for over 12 years since we adopted her, might need to get put down soon. And that picture... is both comforting, and also not making this any easier, somehow. I've just got alot of emotions right now.

I truly think that the world would be a worse place if more people were that compassionate. There is such a thing as too much compassion. We need to be able to ignore the plights of others long enough to take care of ourselves. Also, humanity defines itself through conflict, and cannot flourish without it. If everyone were sickeningly compassionate, we would not be as advanced as we are. Humanity's greatest advances usually come from violence. Even the nobel prize originated from the horror of violence.

Cool montage.
Thanks for sharing.

The tv news (all of it, not just Faux News) does just seem like society's junk pile of ugly humanity. We need more palate cleansers like this.

Almost made it to the bottom without anything breaking through the emotion shield that I built up over the years, but that story third from the bottom just pierced it.

I lost my first dog recently, and he was barely two years old. My mom gambled all our money away and gave him to a "euthanasia shelter" because we couldn't afford him, and I couldn't do anything about it. I still never cried until now, because I'm used to bad shit all the time and built up a shield to this stuff.

He loved me, and I let him get killed because of fucking money. Damn, man, this is the first time I've cried in over a year. I don't know if I want to thank you for showing me this or not, it's been so long since I let something get to me like this.

Sorry for dumping my own trouble here, I know this thread is supposed to show that there is hope for the world or something like that, but all it did is remind me that my dog- No, I'm still trying to block it by not saying his name- That Jack is dead and I let it happen. Your intentions are nice, though. I won't do any of the things you suggested though. The local SPCA is what executed Jack because he looked "too pitbully to get adopted" when he was a retriever. Giving to the homeless just gives them a way to feed the addiction that they probably have. When someone smiles at me it just gets me mad that they are so full of themselves that they think they can make someone forget their problems just because they just radiate happiness. When a sad person smiles back when someone smiles at them, it's just an attempt to get them to leave or be polite.

Maybe stuff like this can make a difference, but I'm just too pessimistic to see that happening.

Me too. I think that we're an inherently greedy bunch though. Survival of the fittest and all that jazz. As the world gets more advanced technologically we get more "bad". We need to go back to the basics.

Well I meant that you could use the smile as a way to break the ice so that people don't get scared when a stranger tries to make 'em feel better.

Aww... I'm sorry. I hope everything will be okay.

I wouldn't mind being way less advanced if it meant that violence got reduced drastically. Too many people die for our own selfish desires. It ain't right.

That's perfectly okay.

I don't think that it's your fault though. You weren't the one that put him in that place and you shouldn't blame yourself.

I can see why you're pessimistic though. When I was around 7 we had to put our first (and only) dog down because she had a form of cancer. I knew that she was in intense pain but I still didn't want her to be gone. To this day I hate all doctors and vets. I know that it's irrational but I just cant help it.

The one with the artist having like no arms, but continues to draw by his mouth is nothing less then simply amazing overall.

Also gained a whole lot of feels from the stories, especially about the dog dying of cancer :,(
Damn... it's been a while since I've seen a post from you :p

That one about the artist really stunned me. It's amazing to see what people can do if they put their minds to it.

Oh man, the parrot one killed me; it's too early in the morning for this shit.

OT: I can certainly say that my life has improved immeasurably since I started being nicer to people and less of a cynical, antagonistic dickhead.

I don't know if anyone can say humanity wouldn't be as advanced without violence, at least until someone finds a way to view/simulate alternate timelines. Human civilizations see violence on a daily basis, so we can't say it's essential until we take it away and see the result. I agree a world without conflict would be a pretty crappy one though, nothing would ever change.

OT: I figure it's best to take in both the good and the bad honestly. If we ignore the bad, then it'll just appear behind you with a knife; but if you only watch the bad stuff, then you'll never feel joy. I agree that most news forecasts suck pretty hard though, every channel has their own story for each topic and (in the states at least) the only international news that we hear about is from England or when some disaster hits.

great stories all, but if everyone acted like that it wouldn't be special, everyone knows how everyone SHOULD act, the fact that by and large the world is not a very nice place makes these stories all the more remarkable

having said that, I could live with this kinda thing being everyday stuff, there's no reason it shouldn't be

I did an image search. Turns out this is the Banpo Bridge in South Korea.

I love that country. If there's one place I'm interested in visiting, it's there.

I'm kind of cynical about stuff like this, years of internet use have led me to assume most things need an extra shaking of salt. But somewere pretty cool like the chemo box things for kids. Simple idea but it could give them at least a smile when they're going through a shit time.

Plus doggies. They're so lovable :(
