As long as you purchase the last 3 Ratchet and Clank games (which you can get cheapy cheap now) with said PS3 then you will not be disappointed.

But I thought Sony stopped producing backwards-compatible PS3s...

Or were the last three Ratchet and Clank games remastered in HD for PS3, and I just didn't know about?
The last three R&C games were made for PS3.
Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty(four hours long -_-) and A Crack in Time.

Different strokes for different folks. It depends on what games you prefer playing. Fast-paced multiplayer: 360. Single-player: PS3.
Not true. I have a lot of great multiplayer experiences on my PS3. I still play Unreal Tournament 3 more than I should, and Burnout Paradise is always fun online. Great community within both games. If the OP stays away from obvious hazards like CoD, he can find some of the gems that the PS3 multiplayer community has to offer.
No, it's true. I have both. The multiplayer experience on the 360 is quite simply, better. It is better designed and has the more, uh, socially competent community. Not even considering CoD. Thus have my experiences convinced me.
I can understand it being better designed, since MS has decent dedicated servers under their belt, and I'm not quite sure what the PSN sports in that regard, but if I want a socially competent community, I typically go with my PC games. I have to admit that most of my multiplayer experiences come from my PC, but I still do occasionally dabble in console multiplayer, don't get me wrong.

I've personally never tried the 360 multiplayer aside from my girlfriend's stepbrother practically forcing me to play MW2 with him (hated it, by the way, and that seeded my hatred of the series post-CoD4), but I've heard accounts of friendly people on other games. If you throw all the screaming CoD fanboys aside, I can see that a friendly multiplayer community is emphasized more on the 360. I was just saying that it's very possible to have a similar experience on the PS3, as I have with Burnout and Unreal.

I have a backwards compatible PS3 myself but it doesn't run the PS2 R&C games. I actually meant the latest three R&C games for PS3. Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty and Crack in Time.

Although I do want HD remakes of the PS2 versions so very bad!

Oh, okay. I was thinking of the PS2 R&C games. And yeah, I really want an HD remake of those games too!

This seems, by and large, to be fairly one-sided in favour of the PS3. However, there are a couple of things to consider. Are you planning to sell all your 360 games? If not, then you might be better off buying another Xbox360. The Arcade model is less than £50 for a brand new one, and mine hasn't failed me in the 4 years I've owned it. But in the end, it's your choice :)

well i now have all of the systems:360 elite(second one, as first last me over 4 years)2 wiis, a 3ds, 3 gaming pcs, and a ps3. the one thing that made the ps3 different then all the others is(other then having a blu-ray player, which is worth it just for that. depending on when u bought it and at what price) is that over the first couple of years i would take my money, go to the store to buy it and then leave with out it cause i just didnt feel like there was anything to play on it. now this may be just my taste in games, but i went to play a ps3 no less then 5 times and just couldnt do it. i finally did mainly because wife rlly wanted a bluray player. im not a sony hater but in these days of almost no console exclusives and the fact that i like xbox live better and xboxs controler better, etc. it just didnt thrill me.

I'd say no.

The current console generation is getting rather old and you're likely to see a new XBox and PS4 coming out in a few years. Currently the PC is a mile ahead technology wise. A decent graphics card purchased today will still be okay in 3 years. Current gen consoles will look like fossils.

If your PC isn't ridiculously old, put a decent graphics card in it. Or send your XBox in for repair.

I think you should probably stick with the xbox... Both consoles are pretty much the same so the only reason for you to waste the money you already invested on the xbox (games, controllers, hd, etc) in a ps3 is if you're really interested in trying ps3 exclusives.

Other then that I really don't see why you should change. You can just buy another used xbox for ?60 (about the price of a game) and use your previous hard drive and all of that.

If you had no system and couldn't decide on which to buy... That would be a tough decision. But in your case, other then really wanting to play some (or all) exclusives I really don't see why you should start over on a new system and waste so much money in the process.

agreed. this was one of the main selling points along with the GoW series that finally made me break down and get one.

If you want a PS3 go for it. I've got both and my PS3 is nothing more than a glorified Blu-Ray player.

It's each to their own really, but the gaming is the same on both consoles. It's really down to which one you prefer controller wise and the exclusives really.

You'll have many a fun time here on the Sony side.

For space, you'll want to buy the cheapest model you can, along with your own hard drive. There are fairly cheap 2.5 inch (the kind that fit in laptops) drives on the market. Hell, they even come in terabytes now, though the PS3 can only register 2TB to my knowledge.

This way, if you choose, you can store all of your media as well as what you would normally have on the console in terms of saves and downloaded games/content.
Would putting an SSD in there boost performance?
I've seen several videos about this and i think the industry consensus is that because of interface issues it doesnt speed it up by any measurable margin.

OT: i will say that my first 360 had the 8gig HD and it did not age well. for the first few years it was fine, but once you start DLing games, DLC, and movies/shows its constrainingly small. good news is if u do decide to get a new xbox, they have 250gigs now(or even if u just wanna buy a new HD and fix ur old xbox, thats still a huge drive for maybe $150 including repairs)

Considering its a blu-ray player and an effectively cheap one, and it plays games, you're already getting more then you get out of a 360.

Now I've always been sony, ever since the curse of playing drake of the 99 dragons and Aquaman on the orginal xbox just completely turned me off the system completely (I know, thats very petty, but those games are awful and thats far too much suck to take from one machine), and that the 360 didnt exactly impress me with many of its exclusive titles or its RRoDs.

Pretty much Sony has anything that Microsoft has (and of course vice versa), so in the end, its worth it. Espeically if you can get your hands on a BC PS3, cause then you get the VAST library of amazing PS2 games (as wel as the even VASTER library of mediocre and shit PS2 games XD).

So yeah id say its worth it but im biased.

On a side note, I've never understood the complaints about the controllers. I've always known the playstation controller so I guess that is just what I'm used to but the way games are made today it is real easy for me to pick up a 360 controller and play with friends. I might get my ass handed to me a for a few rounds but I can catch up quickly.
My grudge with the PS3 controller is that it tries to imitate triggers... very badly so. I don't know about you, but when games force me to use L2/R2 a lot it feels really uncomfortable. Bought some clip-on triggers, but the damn things didn't stay on! :<
rreading this, my first thought was " he needs the clip-ons i have." i think they work great. mine never fall off but for the first couple of months they ate my fingers 'cause i tend to crowd the trigger.(the side of the trigger would bite my tender finger flesh)

Well, I assume you have a bunch of games for the 360, so unless you want to end up spending more money, I'd just buy another 360. Unless you're dying for some PS3 exclusive.

sorry but because something broke, i dont see why that is a sign to get something of the opposite make? its like my pc breaking and going out and getting a mac... why not just get a newer more reliable xbox? like sergeantAnt said, how many games do you have for your xbox? plus what do all your friends have
It's not so much that the games I have on 360 I'll play - because I've pretty much completed everything I want to on 360 - just waiting for the November releases. It's more than I'll kind of feel that everything I've achieved is a waste. But, saying that, I guess it's the experience of playing anyway; besides (and this answers the other question) I don't have a mega plethora of friend on XBL, and don't tend to play online often. My housemate has one, and we sometimes share games etc, but he was also talking about getting a PS3.

As for this, I've been thinking about getting a PS3 for quite a while now - this was just the final trigger, as it were.
sry, slight xbox fanboy in me coming out, im very stuborn, if something broke, i would go out and buy a the same if not a newer version of something...

I've been rather satisfied with my PS3. The disc drive broke once on it but that was rather cheap to reapir. Apart from that though, it's worked like a charm.

Unless every game you own requires a huge install, memory shouldn't be a problem. I filled my 80gb at one time when I had around 20-25 games installed, a few series of TV shows and around 5,000 songs.
It's mainly older PS3 games that have huge installs such as MGS4, DMC4 and Bioshcok.
Although some more recent releases such as Gran Turismo 5 had MASSSIVE installs.

I have both. In terms of use, controls etc I prefer 360, I find PS3 contorller small, the interface a bit more clunky and some insane patch download sizes.. That said, The exclusive titles are waaaaaaay better.
JEBUS thx for reminding me of the ps3's biggest fail. on xbox, whether its a game, patch, video, demo, dlc, its all in the back ground or atleast 98% in the back ground. on the ps3 its ALOT of " watch this bar slowly fill, then watch another bar slowly fill as we install it. i swear ps3 updates the dashboard and patches every game 10 times a day.

I'd just like to point out that I mostly play single player on my xbox and am rather happy with it... People seem to confuse xbox360 with xbox live... I'm not saying the xbox is better or worse... I'm just saying that we have our bases covered on single player...

And, btw... Dead Space ain't a ps3 exclusive... Just saying...

It's possible that I tried to put them on wrong, though I remember struggling like crazy with those things. I apparently tossed them away as well. Was going to give it another shot not that long ago, but I couldn't find them anywhere. >.<
