I apologize if this thread already exists, but what is your all-time favorite stealth game? For me it's a three way tie between Hitman: Blood Money, Assassins Creed II, and Splinter Cell: Conviction, all near-perfect games, in my honest opinion.

Deus Ex. Not strictly a stealth game, but I always tended to play it as one.

For me it's Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood. I really enjoy the multitude of ways you can kill guards and targets. My particular favorite is to throw them off of buildings, or using a lift to drop a load of bricks onto their heads.
Plus poisoning those annoying minstrels and watching them spazz out and die slowly is always funny.

Thief 2: The Metal Age

Amazing atmosphere, excellent story, memorable protagonist, and extremely solid gameplay mechanics make it the best stealth game out there.

No contest. Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven. Although I haven't played any of the more recent versions, which look even better.

Hitman: Contracts with the thief games coming in close behind. Contracts has 2 of the best levels in any hitman game (seafood massacre and beldingford manor). God i love that game.

Thief. De facto.

Agreed.

NOTHING has come close to touching the stealth pinacle that was set by the Thief series. Some have been good, but none can compare.
I agree. Most other "stealth" games allow/force us to just murder everything and everyone who might be a bother.. not so much in Thief. So skill, discretion and patience really matters.

Thief invented and perfected the stealth genre.

Anyone who says it isn't their favourite stealth game, hasn't played it.

TBH, thanks to Thief, I measure the base quality of a stealth title in it's ability to be played through without having to kill, maim, or injure a single foe (human or not).

Sadly - the Thief titles are still the only ones I've found where this is possible.

I'm sorry but Assassin's Creed is hardly a stealth game.

Personally though, I would go with Escape from Butcher Bay as my my favorite stealth game. Not only is the stealth gameplay really good, and necessary, the first person hand to hand combat is very visceral and feels satisfying.

I would agree with this IF MY COMPUTER COULD GODDAMN RUN IT! The game is so old that my computer can't even boot it up anymore. :(

I haven't played it, so I'll defer to your wisdom on this, but:

The way I play it, it's not too far outside the realm of plausibility for me to say "Fallout: New Vegas".

I've only played a couple of stealth games. Metal Gear Solid, Siphon Filter, and Siphon Filter: The Omega Strain. Either MGS or Omega Strain take the cake. I really loved MGS and Omega Strain was stupidly hard but it had a lot more customization.
