I feel bad for the kids, but I don't overly concern myself with the problems. Having seen some of Iraq its hard for me not see why some of these people are angry with us.

Though I suppose the predominant worldview now is that we're all just animals with random, pointless origins, and we may as well only care about our own well-being and enjoyment because human life has no value anyway.

Either find me a single person that believes that on this forum, or apologize for being so fucking ignorant.

Monkeyman: Easy, while I disagree with that statement I can see where some actual arguments are and I might even say some parts are valid. I think you are getting a little too close to personal attacks.

OP: As long as you acknowledge that the problem is there and do not knowingly make the problems worse you are only an average moron (like me and many others ). You cross the line when you make it worse or don't stand up for big problems that you know should be stopped.

My university is made me read this book about some guy who built schools in the middle east, and they are making me go to these lecture/seminar things about third world countries and children my age that live there and their hardships etc. I just got back from one, and i feel like i wasted an hour and a half of my life. I honestly don't care. I care about me and the people directly around me, not someone i have never met halfway around the world. So i ask you fellow escapists, am i a total heartless douche for not caring?

The moral-fags would say yes and since they're the only ones who seem to care about who's "heartless" and who isn't... I guess it technically makes you a "heartless douche"

Third world countries would be a lot better off if they would quit having so many kids. They can't feed themselves so having kids is just plain stupid. They have all those problems because of overpopulation.

Of course thats why they have all those problems. Not because of empires taking over countries, draining the countries of there natural resources then leaving and creating a vacuum of power which has led to civil unrest creating a poor unstable economy that results in a poor education system unable to properly educate people on safe sex. Of course that couldnt be the answer

This, I dont put much stock in the "dont help anyone else until our own house is in order" argument.

Much of the third world is in such a shocking state because Western nations left them that way. Unpopular as it may be I think we owe many of them a duty of care. Much of South America is only now starting to climb out from under US supported dictators and the less said about colonism's impact upon Africa, the better.
