I think it would be more, do you play on PC? if yes then you are a pc gamer if not then you arent.Supertegwyn said:Do you play PC games?
Yes = You are a PC gamer.
No = You are not a PC gamer.
There is NOTHING more to it.
Kaleion said:Don't be silly, PC gamer just means that you play on a PC, you can prefer or play consoles too, but as long as you also play on PC you're that, though I'm not too fond of the term gamer, I think it's rather silly, I mean people who like movies don't call themselves moviers or moviieists, or anything like that, I think the label is rather unnecessary.

Oh and PC Gamers frequently boast of Minecraft and Indie opportunities that Console Gamers miss out on.
...are there really people who don't play any PC Games? I thought the invention of World of Warcraft, if nothing else, made them an extinct breed.ResonanceSD said:Winner!Vault101 said:uhh..I guess?

Do you play PC games? Yes? PC gamer.
Done.
I mean come on, with that list I did what a true PC gamer would do,
I looked at your posted specs, decided mine are better, and moved on. But not before telling you that to be a true PC gamer you need a lot more power than that XD.
But wasn't my point that even the word gamer is a pointless distinction?pure.Wasted said:...are there really people who don't play any PC Games? I thought the invention of World of Warcraft, if nothing else, made them an extinct breed.
If the definition of PC gamer is ANYONE who plays ANY games on the PC, it seems kind of a pointless distinction. Like having a word for people who eat food. Well, I'm sure someone somewhere doesn't, but he's not going to live long enough for this conversation to be relevant.
If you play pc yes, I have a gameboy which I still sometimes use so I am a gameboy gamer as well as xbox, pc, wii and ds.LilithSlave said:The subject of PC gaming seems kinda controversial. And people often seem to shift the term when it is convenient for them.
I, personally, don't consider myself a PC gamer, despite some things that may seem sorta "PC-ish". Allow me to describe myself a little bit for those who are new to me.
- Prefer jRPGs to wRPGs
- Am a Nintendo fangirl
- Prefer playing games with a controller
- Religiously follow doujin gaming
- Get most excited about emulation when building new PCs
- Spend more time gaming on the PC than any other system
- Am a heavy emulation enthusiast and prefer playing console games on the PC to PC games
- Do not like First Person Shooters
- Am not all that fond of wRPGs and Real Time Strategy games
- To a lesser extent, follow indie gaming in general
- Hold Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Touhou, and Tales as my most important video game franchises in life
- Like emulating games because I find it more approachable, in many ways, than consoles themselves
- Like emulating because they breathe life into games I love. I would rather make aesthetically beautiful, older games like PlayStation games shine as much as they are capable of, than new games with peak graphics I find to be ugly. Graphically demanding FPS games, for instance, to me, are a complete waste of graphics, and if I had to play them, would rather play them on the lowest resolution possible.
- Largely built my gaming PC for PlayStation 2 emulation
- Largely avoided PC gaming for most of my life because I didn't like Windows games that were readily available to me
- Own more than one high-end gaming PC. One complete with an Intel 2500K and HD 6870.
- Own a mountain of emulation hardware.
- Own a mountain of gaming peripherals for the PC, like USB controllers.
Here's the thing. I technically prefer the PC for gaming. I game on it more often, and I like the options that PC gaming provides. However, how people most describe PC gaming is contrary to me. That is, use of a keyboard rather than a controller, preference of Windows format common games instead of console common games. I've never heard Touhou fans called PC gamers, I've never heard emulation fans called PC gamers, I've never heard people who enjoy peripherals like USB controllers called PC gamers, I've never heard Umineko no Naku Koro ni readers called PC gamers. I've never heard Minecraft or Indie gamers called PC gamers. I mostly hear First Person Shooter fans, Real Time Strategy fans, wRPG fans, and sometimes MMORPG fans, who prefer playing with the keyboard, PC gamers.
But what I do is geared, honestly, towards using the PC for everything, including gaming. What is a PC gamer, and am I one?
I was going to mention in my post that I agreed with you about the increasing obselence of the notion of a "gamer" in our world, but it got lost in the edits.Kaleion said:But wasn't my point that even the word gamer is a pointless distinction?pure.Wasted said:...are there really people who don't play any PC Games? Therefore making another distinction such as PC gamer is just about as pointless, well my point is that it doesn't matter because it doesn't really mean anything.
EDIT: Have I mention that I absolutely hate the term core gamer? It just makes no sense to me, I think all this terminology is annoying, again people don't put these stupid terms with movies or books.
Well, I believe the distinction was that it used to be fairly complicated to be a PC gamer, and you used to require some basic computing knowledge, in fact the reason why consoles originally existed was to be able to play without having that knowledge, but in present times there is really no difference at all from playing on a PC or a console as far as that goes, therefore the term is obsolete or that is what I think anyway, I could be wrong.pure.Wasted said:I was going to mention in my post that I agreed with you about the increasing obselence of the notion of a "gamer" in our world, but it got lost in the edits.
But people have been talking about "PC Gamers" for as long as I can remember. I was just curious if there were really any other kinds. Should I wear a badge or something?![]()
god I remember when I used to know programming. Then I stopped doing it for a few years, now I remember nothing. But at least I can still recognize code.Zyst said:I think this thread is over.
But there isn't a club around here where you have to get certain requirements to be a PC gamer, you either are or you aren't, and either way is fine.
Quite possibly, the best way to narrow it down is:
Do I like playing on my PC? Yes? Move on, No, probably not a pc gamer, not that it matters.
and second, if there is a game coming out for consoles and PC do I:
A) Buy it for the PC
B) Buy it for the console
if(A==true){
pcgamer == true;
}
else if (B==true){
System.out.printf("Maybe not, then again, who cares?");
}
Pretty much! I consider myself a PC gamer, but I own an Xbox, a Wii and a 3DS. And I enjoy playing games that aren't on the PC and so on and so forth.Aeonknight said:god I remember when I used to know programming. Then I stopped doing it for a few years, now I remember nothing. OT: Meh, why limit oneself to PC or console only? Enjoy the best of both worlds.
Self esteem boost of the day!Yopaz said:After this sentence I pretty much stopped caring whatever else you said in your post. You got awesome taste in games so I don't care what system you prefer. The way I see it you're a mixed gamer. I'm one myself and I like it that way.
