scientology amuses me to no end because it's completely off the wall and not even remotely believable, but people still believe it. It says a lot about religious thought and mob logic in the most upfront way possible and that is hilarious to me.

Plus they're an absolute joke of a cult in my opinion. Their beliefs and practices are specifically engineered to open a persons mind to accept certain beliefs.
Then again, I have my qualms about most religions.

Scientology isn't a religon, it's a cult, and cults ultimately either self destruct, or are destroyed from the outside by religon/mob/police, so I don't think we ahve much to worry about. Let them have their run, let them warp a few people, and they they will all die out.

To be fair, I think all religions are crazy or went through a time period where killing in the name of was OK. The only difference is that the main tenants of this religion are so different than other religions that most people have a hard time believing. I still believe it was started as nothing more then a joke, a satire on religion... yet it became something more. I can't really see why anyone would follow it but hey, if it makes you happy, go for it is all I can say. So in general I don't have a problem with people who join a cult, your life do with it what you will as long as you respect the differences in others and don't try and lash out to harm them.

Which is why I don't like Scientology on a whole:
The bit that bothers me, like many others here, is how it easily defines people as 'targets' and encourages both violence and hate towards these targets. Like wise it is very, VERY, well documented that it has no qualms about targeting it's own people! That alone makes me wonder why anyone would want to join. Who willingly lines up to join a group of people who will do every thing in their power to destroy you for a buck?

Yes, the 'church' will demand you hand over the very last 20 dollars out of your wallet before you die of a curable disease that they forbade you to seek treatment for... Scary.
