Am I an oddity?

I was once that way. Then my dad died when I was 16, so I hit everything. When I turned 18 and got my trust fund money, I cleaned up, except for my drinking and my menthols. Now I have my dream job at working at a comic book shop.

So, no. You're not an oddity, there are plenty of kids who just are straight laced.

I'm exactly like you, if that makes you feel better. I'm 23, and I've willingly never had a beer.
Now consider that I'm from Belgium (better known as Beeristan) and that the legal drinking age here is 16.

Oh look, I am similar to you! How strange, because I thought I was the most unique person ever to have lived, because no one out of the billions to have lived could possibly have reciprocated my tastes.

I take no illicit drugs; I merely drink, and even then rarely (though I have more than just one). I am 17 and 3 months old. Even I knew that I wasn't unique by a long shot without needing to consult others. Most of my friends take a lot of drugs and drink heavily.

I have no job, and no driver's licence.

Paraphrasing the oft-spouted, "Am I the only one?" will still get the same responses.

I need to know if I'm sort of oddity (or rarity) amongst teenagers in general, or just my friends.

I'm 17 years old. I don't do drugs, and never have done drugs of any sort. I plan to keep myself clean of illicit substances for my entire life. Even weed. I have never smoked, and the only smoke I have inhaled would be second hand smoke. I plan to never smoke. I only started drinking earlier this year, and even then only small amounts. If I go to a party with alcohol, as I often do, I'll have generally one drink and leave it at that, while everyone around me gets more and more smashed.
I don't have a part time job of any sort, and have never had one. I also cannot drive, and have not even gone for my Learner's, even though one can do that here in Australia at age 16. I'm over 17 and a half.

I'm just curious, and probably wrong, but I'm a rarity amongst my friends. Almost all have part time jobs. Almost all drink much more than me. I have quite a few friends that smoke, and a small number that get stoned. Even one who walked into school one morning just after snorting high quality cocaine.

Even my girlfriend, who is very similar to me, drinks more than me, has smoked before, and has even tried weed on two occasions.

Somewhat like me...but less restrained, and more whiny.
Even IF I go to a party, and that party happens to approve alcohol, I don't drink (at ALL). I haven't gotten my license either, and I don't plan to take up driving, until I need it.
To top it all off: I don't even have a girlfriend.

I am older than you, too.

If you're an "oddity", then I'm the freaking messiah of weirdos...

No, you're not. I'm more of an oddity than you are mate.

I'm 20 and I read books and write Wikipedia articles, don't smoke or drink, and had my first ever date just last night.

On the other hand I don't play videogames, I like football, watch films, I smoked cannabis once, and I don't rally do much that can be classed as being 'nerdy' or 'geeky' and as for how I managed to reach twenty without going on a date escapes me.

I guess I am just a shy guy who likes his own company and doesn't drink alcohol.

I suppose being an Australian makes the not drinking thing even more of oddity eh? But you don't have to get drunk to go to clubs and meet people and have a good time. All it means is you are less likely to do something you regret, you're aware of whats going on and you remember what happened the night before.

Oh yeah, I have a driving license and am insured on my dad's car. I don't have a job, I am a student at University and don't need the money.

I don't smoke or do drugs. I don't drink caffeine. I'm 23 and I don't drive (mainly because I can't afford it, and in London, it's rather pointless). I do drink, but since leaving uni I've cut down serious amounts.

Having never tried these things doesn't make you an oddity, you'd be suprised the amount of people that don't. If you don't want to, you don't have to. However, you must remember never to lecture people about drug use or smoking when you have never experienced it yourself

Unless they were a rich and famous person in the 70's/80's, that wasn't quality cocaine man.

Yeah, probably a total rip off as well. £40 a gram is what one guy was selling it for at a party I was at. Your lucky to find 50% purity these days. I guess 'high quality' is a subjective term however.

Where did I say "Is it just me?" Pretty sure I didn't. I asked if I was an oddity or rarity amongst teenagers, because I am amongst all of my friends. I was wondering if I was in general by extension.

My apologies; I find too many "Am I the only one?" threads, and lumped this one into that category. They rile me, especially because they seem to be cropping up in force recently.

As an oddity among teenagers in general, I cannot say without knowing how all teenagers act, but in my local group of friends and in your local group of friends, then I would agree. Mine sound fairly similar to yours, and yet you and I seem to be an odd one out in both groups. I often comment how unlike the group I hang around with I am.

Hey you sound like me, and i'm Australian as well. High five!

Although i'm sort of not a teenager anymore that is exactly how i was when i was that age. My reasoning? I am and have been for a long time a bit of a health nut. Hence the no smoking or drugs. However i don't drink because i cant afford alcohol and i only really like beer.

I don't do any of those things, never have, and I'm significantly older than you, so it is possible! Although I do plan to get my G2 next month :3. Going through High School, I'm sure we've felt the same though, like we're doing it wrong. However, if you don't feel it's right for you, don't let those thoughts take over, I'm sure it's better to feel unsure as opposed to remorseful.

Ah, yeah. That's understandable. Every time I see the words "Am I the only one?" or "Is it just me?" or any variation of it, I sigh. They do annoy me too, as quite obviously no one is the only person who thinks/acts like they do.

I apologise that my thread came across like one, as that was not how I was intending it to come across when I created it.

I don't smoke normally, but I'll smoke weed and get pissed at parties.

Honestly, I don't think you need to stay so clean. Getting pissed at the odd party is hardly going to damage your future.
