Everyone around me seems to think that Dragonforce is the shit, yet all I hear are power chords and quarter notes being played really fast. I just need to know if anyone else sees this in the same way I do.

They aren't that good I mean they do all the things you said but people don't care. Also before Guitar Hero III, only a few people knew about them. That's how it was around my neighborhood, before Guitar Hero III if you mentioned Dragonforce people would say "Dragon who?"

I liked dragonforce before guitar hero 3 came out, but after that I don't think too much of them. What pisses me off is that I have friends whom I sent dragonforce to before GH3 who said it was stupid, then when they played it in the game they're like "omg, listen to this song dude it's awesome." And I'm like "I KNOW, I SENT THAT TO YOU A YEAR AGO!!!"

Idiots, all of them.

I'm so sick of Dragonforce. Not only are they guys who could very easily be replaced by a machine, but also because going online with Guitar Hero 3 is pointless because everyone and their dog chooses Through The Fire and Flames.

I've actually had people play Dragonforce against me and blow me out of the water, but practically fail out of Anarchy In The UK. If you're really spending all your time on Guitar Hero 3 getting good at Dragonforce, you're missing out on one of the best video game tracklists of all time.

Yeah I know what you mean about the Dragonforce thing. Yeah they are technically proficient, they can play fast but who cares? They lack musicality, you can have all the technique in the world but if you don't have a sense of style and a personality behind the playing then you are better off just getting some machine to do it. Dragonforce for me is like that, its just a whole lot of technical stuff on the guitar that amounts to nothing I really want to listen to.

No, you're not crazy and I like most of DF's work besides Inhuman Rampage. What they need to do is not over-produce their songs in a way that they can't even play them live!

Has anyone heard their new album?

The thing is, Dragonforce is moving into a more Techno-oriented genre and that may irk some Metal fans. Inhuman Rampage attempted it, but couldn't pull off the guitars well-enough without it growing ridiculously dull. Ultra Beatdown has polished it up from then, with much more focus on keyboards and synthesizers. Guitars are still flashy but there's more musicality put into the melodies.

So, if you don't like fast trance music, move on. I'm waiting for their Metal-Archives band page to change their genre.

Never heard them, but I can tell you're not alone because I've never heard a good word about them. Everyone I talk to always complain how they are overrated and wanky.

I like Dragonforce. At the risk of sounding like a twat, I liked them before Guitar Hero III.

Sure, their lyrics are unimaginative and make no sense whatsoever-- but after a while, they have a sort of novelty charm.

Sure, their music all sounds pretty much the same (except for the occasional ballad).

Sure, they use lots of studio effects (which I really have no problem with).

Sure, they are overrated.

And yet there's something about them that I just can't get enough of. Their new album is just more of the same stuff... and for some reason I still love it.

I like Dragon Force enough to listen to one or two songs by them at a time, and really, that's all you need for the most part. I'm a fan of "Through The Fire And Flames" and I owned Inhuman Rampage long before the release of Guitar Hero III. I don't know much of there work before that album, however.

Ultra Beatdown, while it may have possibly the most ridiculous sounding title of all time, has a nice single out that I don't mind.

But again, I can only listen to one song about epic dragon riders fighting for freedom with extended guitar solos at a time.

Dragon-who? I haven't heard anything by them to be honest. Doesn't sound much like my particular blend of Darjeeling though.

Aha! You mentioned quarter notes- now I know your musical secret...
I haven't experienced Dragonforce yet- should I?
