I believe in soul mates, true love, world peace, and Democracy. I believe organized religion doesn't have to be bad. I believe you must live your life with honor and morality. I believe that the legal system can work. I believe in the goodness of humanity.
Tell me escapists, am I just naive? Does the world really work this way, or am I just living in a fantasy?

I'm the same way. Although I wouldn't agree on the world peace thing. Countries will always find a way to disagree on something that'll cause tension.

Well, those things are nice to believe in, to a certain extent. It's wonderful that you believe in those things, because it might be those like you who turn things around in the end.

I, however, am a cynical *****. Souls mates I'll go with because I think I might have just found mine, and we may someday find true love. World Peace, however, is impossible to have completely, because as long as there's two people on the planet, there's going to be conflicting interests.

Democracy... well, it's a good concept, but it fails to factor in the stupid people and assumes that everyone in intelligent enough to think for themselves and act independently. If we can figure out how to deal with the stupids, it'll be a much better system.

You probably are living in a dream... Honestly, it's good to believe in the things you believe in, but you also have to recognize that people have dark sides, and sometimes, those sides are freaking scary and that sometimes, evil trounces the living crap out of good.

Just be the best person you know how to be, by your own definition. Live and learn. May your days be happy, and may life never turn around and kick you in the ass. :D

Not at all, deep down we all believe (whether we admit it or not) in that stuff; I mean, who doesn't want everybody to get along? I especially support you on the life of honor and morality and religion. I am a spiritual and somewhat devout Muslim, and living life with honor, morality, faith, etc is exactly what my religion teaches me. However, I am also a realist. "Anything is possible" is indeed true but "anything" such as world peace and true love isn't likely to happen. Idealism is good and all, but don't let it pull you away from reality; and the reality is that things like world peace and true love are possible but not likely to happen. The world will have to be threatened with destruction before we can all get along...(independence day reference)

Sir, I admire your hope. While I do believe that you are a tad bit naive, you certainly seem to be able to accept not everything is sunshine and roses.

Keep your hope. Life will shift and change it, but never loose its core.

Yes. Yes you are. I think you need a healthy dose of reality. The stupidity of human kind causes too many problems to start working towards any real goals.

Except true love. That's something I think most people can believe in.

I'd say that 'Anything worthwhile demands effort',but that response itself didn't take much, therefore, it must be invalid.

If you insist upon striving to achieve those goals(or improve that which has already been established in the case of Democracy),you might think that you are hopelessly naive or miserable at the time, but later on,you will see that the very fact that you had some goal to accomplish that occupied your life, that you are luckier than people who try to run down the clock before they do something particularly embarassing that they will never live down. If you even come close, you will go down in the history books, you know,as long as you try. If you are just a fan of those concepts, then fine,it's nice to have a dream.

I personally want people of every race,gender/sex,creed or what have you to be treated as equals with all the major double-standards and special privileges being done away with.
I don't want it for reasons others would consider idealistic, though. It is just more practical to do so. More importantly,no special advantages or disadvantages means no excuses for one's own failures and no mercy if one starts a conflict without just cause.

I feel you are naive when you give these optomistic views as absolutes. Where its a matter of opinion (when you say 'can' or 'doesn't have to') is where I can understand your interpretation. Everything else...well, check out a war zone, look at the issues in our world, see the grey that is life. I don't believe absolutes work in this world. Organised religion doesn't have to be bad...but it ends up being. The legal system can work...but working is a subjective matter. Everything else...especially world peace, I think is total ballwash friend.

I commend your idealism and positivity. Personally, I've been feeling quite jaded for a few years now, and can't seem to hope for things like peace and [working] Democracy, even if I know they're just blind hopes.

Booooo...

You're what, 19? 20? The more you live life, the more that you will see that the world is a hard place to play nicey-nice in. People are mostly egotistical self-important fools who believe whatever it was that their parents believed. Most people do things for primarily selfish reasons and if they don't they do things for veiled selfish reasons (i.e. working at the homeless shelter so you don't feel bad).

As for soul mates and true love, there are many people who are just too hard to be around to have this happen to them. "True love" as it is usually defined tends to happen to people who are mature and loving and tolerant and honest. Usually in pairs.

I totally applaud your naivete and belief in the humanity of man, but remember, humans are just animals, not some soulful, deep creature that is automatically awesome. The awesome part is that we can aspire to be such a thing. It's hard, but worthwhile.

The only one of those that I see as a fantasy is world peace, seeing as it's impossible due to all the differences between groups of people (and the inability to accept those differences).

i hope you aren't niave cause i believe in those things to.

Either way, your focus determines your reality. It does not matter one bit whether the rest of the world thinks you are niave or not, just live your life as it is and how it makes you happy. Personally, i think that anyone who believes in the things you do is a much better human being than one who is doom and gloom and who is to lazy to raise a hand to help anybody becasue they are to busy expalining why everybody else is a tosser.

I'm like you, but at the same time... I accept that generally, the world isn't perfect and a lot of people are dicks and I don't like religion.

You are naive ... probably, but the thing is, you should change the word "Believe" to "Strive for", because being happy-go-lucky doesn't change much, but trying to make the world the place where people can be happy-go-lucky is much more productive ... I'd assume, I wouldn't know, what with being 16, having little to no power and being pre-occupied with my school work.

All the things you mentioned can work- but they never will. So yes you are naive and idealistic.
