IMO just upgrade your PC, I bought a 360 but hardly ever play it, if you MUST get one then get the elite w/ ODST for $449 (AUD) It's worth it if you want to play the console ports when they were good (see GTA IV)

EDIT: Saint's Row DEFINITELY! I got both and SR2 is just SOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER!
Not everyone likes dealing with all the stuff you have to with PC gaming. He just asked if he should get a 360 or not. Not a 360 or ____.
he asked for opinion and I gave it to him, because at the end of the day (besides my kick-ass PC and even better arse) that's all I have...

Thanks for the responses :) I believe I'm going to buy a 360 as soon as possible, but I'll definitely keep playing on my PC and upgrade it when I can afford to do so.
My two cents: use the console to play games exclusive to it (which there are plenty of). If you know something is better on the PC - as FPSs and RPGs pretty much always are - but your PC won't run it before upgrade, just let it wait. There is no expiration date on a bunch of bits and besides it'll be cheaper later.

Here's my advice: screw consoles in the head. Unless you're an idiot, you're obviously buying a videogame console to play videogames. Weigh up whether you can justify your purchase with games you want. If there's enough games for that console that you want to play, and you're willing to pay the money for the platform, do it. Price shouldn't be an issue if you really want to play certain games. Tossing up between Saints Row 2 and GTAIV? Buy them both would be my suggestion.

I bought my 360, not because I thought "well the 360 seems to be very popular, and they seem to have ironed out most of the Red Ring of Death issues, so I might get one"; I bought it because I thought "I want to play Banjo Kazooie 3 and Viva Pinata (don't judge me), and the only way I can do that is if I have a 360, so I'll go get one".

I wouldn't buy a console just to play a bunch of stupid shooters, but if that's your cup of tea, by all means. Console fanboyism really doesn't make any sense to me; the consoles don't make the games, and powerful systems doesn't automatically mean it will only play good games.

Qualified? Really mate, take one look at the XBL community and you'll find yourself overqualified.
Or any online gaming community. PSN and XBL are full of idiots, but what can yah do?

OT: I really like Gears of War, it's a fun shooter, but it takes a little bit to learn how to play online. (I mean how be awesome online.)

*thinks of the shooters she has*
Here's some shooters for yah:

-Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, an older game, should be cheap now, but VERY FUN
-Call of Duty 4, good game, solid online, pretty fun
-Call of Duty World at World, solid online, fun WWII shooty stuff
-Army of Two, online is pretty terrible, but the game is fun
-Left 4 Dead, pretty good single, extremely fun online, very solid nonlaggy online
-Halo 3, pretty fun campaign, fairly solid online, doucebaggish community
-Halo 3 ODST, firefight is SO FUN, the online is the same as Halo3, very short campaign
-Gears of War, campaign was meh, solid online(if you pick a good room) and alright community
-Gears of War 2, good campaign, alright online(can be very laggy), and an alright community
-Bioshock, fun campaign with lots of chills and thrills, no online
-Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, pretty good campaign, but the quick draws get a little hard towards the end
-Battlefield Bad Company, fun to play, solid online, decent community

I know I'm missing some, but that's some shooters you may enjoy.

If you need a list of any other game types, let me know, I know some good fighter, RPGs and all kinds of good stuff.

Oh, I only asked for shooters since that's the genre I see as being the hardest to transfer to the consoles (except for RTS). I'm just as interested in other games the 360 has to offer, plus the new releases in the next year. In addition to that, the wind seems to blowing in the consoles favor, at least in terms of ports. I yearn for the day when the consoles, once again, receive PC ports, instead of the other way around.

im a huge console gamer. as a matter of fact i really dont like pc gaming at all. (im just not as fast and accurate as i am with a controller). i will say that 360 is probly my favorite of the 2 and a half current systems. the offset joysticks really make it much more comfortable for fps games.

and as for saints row or gta

gta4 mission- pick up friend, go to bar, take friend home

sr2 mission- throw yourself into traffic and try to get hit by as many cars as possible

now which one sounds more fun?.....

Ah, my apologies then. I'm in kind of a bad mood about the fights that people get into concerning consoles and computers at the moment. I have a friend who considers himself a hardcore gamer and only plays computer games, taking every opportunity to express his utter contempt for consoles, preferably to my face. I can see the games he plays, and they're pretty much all shooters. The keyboard/mouse interface is much better for shooters, but if that's all I'd end up playing, I'd probably give up gaming completely. That or put a bullet to my own head for want of some damn variety in my life.

The platform doesn't matter people, just the games, unless it's actually your computer that's letting you down.

/console fanboy rage

Oh, and emulators suck, so there's no use playing that card.

If you could reccomend some RPG's for me that'd be great! Just exclude all the Fallouts, Elder scrolls and Mass Effect! =]
-Last Remnant,
-Blue Dragon,
-Fable,
-Fable 2
-Two Worlds,
-Operation Darkness,
-Infinite Undiscovery
-Eternal Sonata

Not really saying much since GTA IV was shit...

OT Get a 360 because it's just cool, you will pick up the controller easily and depending on what you're playing you may find it easier (Gears of War)

Price JUST dropped 100 bucks so I doubt another one will happen soon. The shooters play well, I definitely prefer them to mouse and keyboard. A lot of people say FPSs are better on he computer but I can't hit the broad side of a barn with PC controls so my opinion on that is very biased.

As for GTA4 vs SR2, it depends what you like in a game.
If you want a long campaign and a well written story, go with GTA4
If you want customization, multiplayer, and replay value, go SR2

If you haven't bought a system since the Snes, then buying a cheap Xbox would probably be a good step. I would say just upgrade your PC, but due to exclusivity you'll miss out on a lot of great games. All I can really warn you about when buying a 360 is to be prepared to drop it in a cardboard coffin.

Oh and get Saints Row 2. It's far more fun than GTA4.
