So I'm playing Skyrim and I get the occational kill-animation. Sometimes it looks awsome, other times I think it looks kinda awkward. And then I startet reminiscing about the V.A.T.S.-system from Fallout (only played 3 and New Vegas), and started thinking that it would be kinda cool in Skyrim. Bad-ass slow-mo animations of flesh being cleaved, smelting a bandits face off or zapping an unruly elf in the balls with your lightning. That would kick ass, right? Right?

What do you think?

V.A.T.S. the system where you can stand still indefinite and aim for the testicles?
No. Sorry, but it's nto that type of game.

You can however smell the influence the Fallout Team has had on the TES team. (The lockpick system & the kill animations. As awesome as they are, they also look a bit 'sudden' so to say.) But eh who cares. Game is awesome.

I dunno, I came here for the amazing typo XP

Maybe something similar? Fans would be pissed if it was just ripped out of Fallout and put into Skyrim. I think.

/hasn't played Skyrim but is commenting anyway

You know how everyone goes "you are never the only one"?
This thread is the exception. Yes, you are the only one.

No you are not the only one, you are never the only one, but I do not think that. VATS would just make the combat even more stat based, which would get dull.

Exactly what I was thinking. I also use V.A.T.S. to scope out the area and see what NPCs or creatures are around me - especially in the dark. I was kind of disappointed that this game didn't have the feature. However, if it did, what button would it be? They are all taken.

Fallout 3/NV's lockpick system was way better than Oblivion's. Taking that into Skyrim was an excellent design decision.

Hell no, the system in Oblivion was better, you always had a chance for picking and a chance for failing, however, in the new Fallout games, you can only try to attempt picking locks that you have met the requirement for, which in all honesty, is retarded.

Yeah, having an RPG require that you actually train at a skill instead of being perfect at it from the word 'go' is pretty retarded.

Nah I like my Elder Scrolls V.A.T.S free.
The kill animation I think should only occur when you "one hit kill" something. Be it watching your perfect arrow bury itself in giant frost bite spiders face, slapping an unruly bandit in the face with your shield before stabbing him good and proper with a long sword or opening some poor unsuspecting fools throat open with your dagger in "crouchy down mode".
(Actually that last one is awesome, so much better than just hacking at there legs and killing them straight out.)

Maybe not V.A.T.S. as it was in Fallout, but some kind of variation of it. In Fallout I really liked being able to target specific bodyparts and watch the (almost) awsome animation play out, even if I could easily take down my foe without V.A.T.S.

Wait...
Ever tried picked an Expert lock with only 23 Lockpick? Yeah, you're hardly "perfect" at it. I really like that you CAN do it if you want. It's just really, really hard.

If your fps skills aren't great then VATS is a good way to implement the rpg stats into the gameplay. I don't see a problem with it being there. Its not like you have to use it.

I don't want there to be VATS in Skyrim or any Elder Scrolls game, really. It just doesn't fit in. Though when there's a dragon flying overhead or I've just missed a fox or an elk I was hunting and it starts bolting, then I wish there was some way to track faster with my bow...

As far as the lockpicking goes, you can still attempt any lock. The Fallout "you must have this skill level to even attempt" isn't in Skyrim. Even though I only have Novice rating in lockpicking on my warrior, I can even attempt to pick Master level locks. Of course the 'sweet spot' where you unlock gets smaller with the difference between your skill and the lock difficulty, so your chances in that case are practically none. You're welcome to break as many lockpicks trying as you like though....

Yep, I think your the obly one. Skyrim doesnt need VATS since it is a melee focused game, and bows are the only projectile that really needs precision to use. But if you go with a bow character most of the time you will be shooting at people whilst they are still and dont know your there.

Yeah totally! And while they're at it they should add a radio, where you can listen to 1920's music.

Wait...
But that's wrong. When you have a low skill, you'll do badly unless it's something easy and if you are really good, you will master everything with no sweat. Hmmm, it reminds me of something...

Oh yeah. Real life.

Plus, the first two Fallouts (the best RPGs ever IMO), had this system, you could TRY anything with a low skill, but you had a very low chance of succeeding.
