Am I the only one sick of hearing about "The Hunger Games" constantly?

I found it to be a decent movie. Then again, I like anime, and this is definately taken from about a dozen different anime.

Also, it's a BILLION times better than Twilight. Reluctant woodsgirl and attention loving bakers boy are way better than stalker girl and emo-git.

Nah, I don't know that many people who love it and I've done a pretty good job of tuning everyone else out. Still haven't read the books or saw the movie. Though what few things I have heard the first thing that jumped into my mind was the whole post apocalypse setting with the clans fighting reminded me of Digital Devil Saga. Also the hunger part but instead of competing for food DDS just ate the losers but there is still hunger involved, and latter seems cooler. Yeah I tuned out a lot so I really have no idea...

Oh, swell. An AITOO thread.

I've got an infallible remedy for Hunger Games glut. It's called Not Giving a Shit.

It's surprisingly effective, but awfully hard to find in your average drugstore. Which is a bit of a pain. Everybody's always got plenty of shits, but not giving them is *extremely* hard, at times.

Rable rable rable rhetorical question, you're never the only one rable rable rable

Now to face the actual OP. In my journalism class today, we had to present story ideas for the next issue and it seemed like every girl had "Hunger Games movie review" number 1 on their list. Then the class turned into a mass discussion about just how fucking amazing Hunger Games is.
It's normally a very productive class, todays just our short day and talking about story ideas was the only thing we had planned.

Eh why can't we let this generation love their version of the dystopian future with violent t.v. shows?

I can't really comment too much on The Hunger Games (a bit vague in the details department), but what I am astonished is how many movies have been recently adaptations to books (many being vague, but strangely popular). What is more of a shock is that these stories are part of a series of books, so clearly, the question becomes:

"Did they want to create a movie based on a popular book series? Or do they merely want to roll out with multiple movies to follow the book series?"

Alright, point taken; although in my case there's a significantly better Best Case Scenario. In my case the Best Case Scenario is that I manage to convince a large number of people to stop making snarly comments and harassing people on the internet about insignificant things that don't mean shit. Although there are better odds of me sprouting wings and flying off to NeverLand than of that happening.
In your case, even if you achieved the best case scenario you'd still have a seemingly infinite number of people still using that phrase which you hate so much (although why it bugs you is beyond me); which is what I meant by "infinity minus (or "subtract" if you want to be anal about it) 1." What are you left with when you take away 1 from infinity? You're still left with frikin' infinity.
Honestly, the amount of people actually harassing others on the internet for nothing is far, far, far larger than the amount of people using that phrase. You've got both a harder and bigger job than me, buddy >_<
Anyways, I don't consider this to be anywhere near "harassment". It's unnecessary venting of annoyance, yes, but it's completely harmless for all parties. If you want that, check anything on the internet related to (yes, more fitting CM =p) politics, gender [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/comics/critical-miss/9116-Sexism-and-or-Racism], sexuality, religion or such. You might want to start there. Or, on a second thought, you probably don't want to go anywhere near those people.

Am I the only one that is sick of hearing about "am I the only one that is sick of hearing about..." threads?

I have nothing against the topics or people who love the topics. But I'm sick of just hearing about them. With me personally it's just meh, It's not the worst topic but at the same time it's not the best. So again; am I the only one who is sick and tired of constantly seeing people make new threads about this (and whatever other topic they cant comprehend is "popular")?

*AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH*

Seriously, if I wanted to know about this shit, I'd still own a television, and I'd watch commercials.

.
ok...why dont people get this? no matter WHAT people complain about, the complainers are MORE annoying

all those things I can downright ignore...in fact I wouldnt know they exisisted had people not gone raging on them

but haters? I cant ignore then they are all over the internet......YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM
You seem to have completely lost the plot of my statement.

My point is that I don't own a tv, and I don't particularly give 2 tinker's damn about a variety of things, and yet, I find that I'm inundated with data concerning a variety of things that are clearly tied to a demographic I do not belong to. I feel I'm justified in stating, every once in a while, that I don't particularly give a fuck about Twilight and Harry Potter, because I don't; they do not interest me.

I don't hate those things, I just don't give a fuck, and the energy that some people appear to spend on whatever bit of their own, unique bit of their fandom is something I encourage; I have hobbies, so I don't begrudge other people having hobbies. I draw the line at having to listen to the sheer amount of shit people (and the media) seem to need to try and communicate about the latest highly-localized-demographic's new craze.

People don't want to hear about my SCA heavy fighting hobby? The one were I actually go and train so I can travel to tournments, and on occasion, I've travel clear across the North American continent to participate in events? The hobby that actually requires me to be active, and outdoors, and social?

Fine, I don't want to hear about Twilights, Harr Potter, MLP:FiM, Justin Beiber, Hannah Montana, Spongebob or any of the other shit that people seem to believe is worth their time; it might be worth YOUR time, but it's a waste of mine.

Read the last sentence of the first paragraph of the following link, and then apply it it to every tween fandom of the last 50 years, and you'll understand my position: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/extra-punctuation/9396-Roleplaying-The-Old-Republic

eerrmmm....I'll be honest Im not entirly sure what your saying

I was actually agreeing with you (I might have not been clear on that)

because its like the HATE of a certain thing is bigger than the thing itself...(at least at some point) you would go to any music video on youtube and half the comments would be about justin beiber...

or to put it another way...its like the rotting corpes of an evil man (not a pleasant thing) instead o fjust leaving it buried people have to keep digging it up, drag it to your front door and shove it in your face "look at it! look at how AWFUL its it!!..LOOOK AT IIIIIITT!!!!"

that said we all enjoy critcising bad things...but after a certain point it gets rediculous...like peopel act as though its some great conspiricy and peopel are blind to the fact x i awful...no, they just dont give a crap about x... becaue x is awful

Wow do you guys sound really hipsterish with your eighties movies and your Greek myth references. And I know hipster, I'm from Oregon. It seems you guys were into gladiator matches way before it was cool.
Better not refer to the greek ever again then. Or else someone might call you a hipster, and you wouldn't want that would you? That's why we also call people nerds. Because praising intellectuals, or slightly educated people is wrong.

Rule number something-or-other of the internet: You are NEVER the only one.

More to the point: Hollywood always finds something to latch onto and tell us "HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS IS GOING TO BE THE MOST AMAZING FUCKING THING YOU'VE EVER FUCKING SEEN!!!!" when more often than not it's absolute crap. A couple years ago that movie Slumdog Millionaire won Best Picture...and absolutely NO ONE had seen it. Seriously, I've given up on seeing movies. I just can no longer justify paying $20-$30 to go see the absolute crap that Hollywood coughs up these days. The last movie I saw in theaters was The Dark Knight, the last movie before: Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.

You can't stand all the ranting and raving about The Hunger Games...I can't stand the ranting and raving about pretty much any movie that is supposed to be the greatest thing since breathable oxygen...which pretty much means every movie that comes out.

Another example: Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Maybe I'm just a contrarian, but anything that society just absolutely LOVES and thinks is fucking amazing I just have absolutely no interest in. This is why I don't have Facebook or Twitter. :p

P.S. I never thought I'd say it, but I miss the nigh impossible to read Captchas of the past...better than typing out a frickin' Chevy ad every time I make a post...>.>

I haven't heard anything about Hunger Games apart from what an old classmate said after they had to read it for a school project. So I'm not sick of it, in fact, I'd like to hear more!

What I'm sick of is the Battle Royale Comparisons, Other than kids fighting the two have nothing in common.

The Themes are different, time period is different, the way the fights are handled is different, characters are different. Society they take place in is different.

It has more in common with Running Man than it does with Battle Royale.

It's a book series, that's currently popular.

They're hoping to recreate the success of Harry Potter, and, if number 1 does well, they've got at least 2 more ready to go, and maybe more than that if the author feels like it.

In short tho, as above, they've picked the title they're going to push like crazy and you're stuck with it.

Still, despite all this, I bought the trilogy of books and I'm hoping to read the first one before the movie gets spoilered. (There's tempting fate, maybe I should walk away from this thread before the trolls show up.)

Yep, because that's precisely what I meant by that, not that you all sound like a bunch of pseudo-intellectuals fresh off a visit to TvTropes who think that knowing most literature is derived from Greek myth makes them a genius. I'm certainly not implying you're acting like self-important teenagers either. Nope, what I'm saying is that attaining an education or looking up to intellectuals is wrong, which is why my efforts to attain a phd make me the devil and my admirers the scum of the earth.

Then why don't you just say that? Or just say nothing at all. What good does smug insulting do?

Makes me feel better. I'm a kinda smug guy when people are acting like jerks. I should probably stop that, but I really am tired of this whole idea that liking the "original" and "unpopular" Battle Royale makes them better than me. I would rather they just say which they think is better and why, judging each work on its own merits rather than by which came first. I probably should calm down about it though.
