Oh, like you are one to talk... :)

OT: I might have been at one point, but I am not now. It is all just words. They only have as much power as you give them.

Go ahead and spew profanity!

Nothing speaks to the quality of your character and temperament like an unmitigated stream of foul language. I know when I go out on the town, I want to surround myself with people who intersperse their speech with enough profanity to make george carlin blush!

No, I've nver[small](sic)[/small] been ofehded[small](sic)[/small] by "bad langueage[small](sic)[/small]" either.

I do however find it a little irksome when people can't spell check, or have poor sentence structure or grammar.
I cut people slack on sentence structure and grammar, especially on internet forums, because I know that I personally type in a manner similar to how I speak. And I don't speak in school-paper-essay formatted paragraphs.

Simple spelling errors, however...

OT: It depends, really. Swearing doesn't bother me unless it's used with extreme vulgarity and regularity. Everything else depends on the delivery. If someone says something that is obviously meant to hurt someone else's feelings, I might take offense, especially if it's aimed at me. Side note: Firefox spellchecker doesn't consider "else's" to be a word, and it's apparently a pretty hot-button topic on some forums and what-have-you that discuss grammar.

Yeah, I find it irritating. They're such go-to words, and no longer have any meaning.

Not offended. Irritated on occasion. Some people need to loosen up and swear more. Some people need to tone it down and swear less.

"Bad" language pushed too far just for shock value can get annoying, but not offensive I don't think. It depends on the context and the intention. No word holds any inherent value or meaning, just the meaning you place on it. At the end of the day its a sound you make out of your face.

I'm not. If someone drops a box and says "FUCK!" then I'm fine with it. If someone gets angry and punches the desk screaming, "SHIT!", I'm fine with it.

If someone insults me or my friends, that's when I have a problem with it.

I care not for foul language. I'm almost an advocate of it, I do swear a lot. Even if insulted, as the saying goes, "Words are wind". You can take it however you like.

The only way an insult can hurt you is when it impacts the opinions of those around you negatively, and especially if those around you are dear to you. If it's you and x other person, and they insult you, whoop-dee-doo.

NB: Take it on board however; insults are almost a good thing when taken as a constructive criticism.

Its hilarious how everyone is offended more by bad grammar and spelling than 'bad' language.

Anyway bad language barely offends me, I only have a problem if its being used in a personal insult to deliberately hurt someone

When I was growing up in the 90's, "Shut up" was the worst thing you could say, then it became "crap," then it became "shit," then it became "fuck, ****, slut, bastard, etc).

There were times when I would say: "I hate ____" to which some people would say "Hate is a strong word." Did they ever think that was the reason I used it?

Bad language how?

I'm not so much offended by 'everyday' swearwords, the f word, the s word, the c word, although I do wish people wouldn't use them in place of wit. Someone like the Nostalgia Critic or Yahtzee use swear words to create visual pictures and jokes, someone like Ozzy Osbourne swears as a placeholder for other words. Unfortunately, the majority of people I talk to fit into the latter category.

Now how about other bad language?

The problem in your post is that you talk about 'words being offensive' which of course they can be, and very offensive sometimes. If words weren't offensive, then it would mean that they have no meaning, and if words have no meaning, then we have no communication. Racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, these are words I find offensive, and I tend to lump all people who use them into the same 'stupid' category. Someone can use everyday swearwords without necessarily being stupid, but someone who voluntarily uses words they know to be racist, I'm sorry but you're uneducated and I won't waste my time with you.

And of course 'bad language' could be anything. If someone tells me I'm worthless I'm going to take it poorly. Those words are offensive, but not in a traditional sense.

i have nver been ofehded by "bad langueage".

its true! not once has bad langueage got to me. seriously though, i haven't because i don't think profanities should be offensive. also:

I understand slander and defamation but other than insults like that taking legal or physical action due to being offended is just moronic, this kind of goes both way as if you sink into depression or even heaven forbid kill yourself over an insult you are just sort of pathetic.
bit offensive and unnecessary really. while i agree that it is a bit OTT, some people do commit suicide from bullying and it isn't really a laughing matter. being offended and being hurt by something are two different things

edit: also, you are never the only one

Bad language never offends me, unless it's directed at my friends or family. But, I was a bit offended by the terrible spelling in your title. Proofreading does wonders.
