Twitter, MySpace, Facebook and every single other website that operates identically need to be banned.

I havn't done much research into this, but from what I've heard you use it to let everyone know what your doing and thinking about every moment of the day. I have one question.
WHY WOULD ANY SANE HUMAN BEING CARE?
If you use it, please tell me why it's so damn popular. And if you agree with me that
it is as dumb as a screen door on a submarine, please let me know that there are others out there.

myspace
facebook

Sir, you hate on Twitter, yet you seem to spell it wrong in the title. This really makes me think you heard about it, assumed it had one 't' and decided to hate on it.

Most of the hate for Twitter is based off of the idea that everyone on Twitter just says pointless stuff that's stupid. Now while some people do[/do] this, the majority of the users do not, and if you don't like it, just unsubscribe from them.

Twitter can be used for a multitude of interesting things. During E3, I got live Tweets from all three presentations, me and my friends got to share our feeling on what was announced as it happened, over Twitter. Hell, I even won something over Twitter.

if you have a few friends, you can use Twitter as a decent IM app for your phone. If I wanted to do use real IM on my phone I would have to pay more, meanwhile, Twitter is free. And some celebrities (Wil Wheaton, Chris Hartwick) are legitimately funny, they can brighten up your day each now and then.

So, if you have some friends, it can be a fun and interesting thing, and if you want to hate on it, at least try it, or at a bare minimum, spell it right.

I thought the same until I found Jhonen Vasquez's Twitter account. It amused me to no end, given that the first entry was of him telling f how he jumped in the air for no reason and hadn't come down, leading to near starvation, losing one's legs to a speeding humvee and killing some brat who hid under the trashbag he wrapped around himself to hide his shattered legs, leaving only his skeleton. If you find the right account to watch, it can be very using, and bring a smile to your face for almost no reason.

Or you could follow the shows on CNN and use it to never miss another news story... if you want.

I can see how Twitter can be seen as stupid, but then again, this is the internet. Many stupid things abound here.
I agree absolutely but i just check his blog every so often to see his twitter instead

At least you admit it. Most people who hate things purely because they're popular never admit it. Unless I understood you wrong.

It's like a blowjob machine, you have to put something in to get something out of it.

You can't just join and expect it all to suddenly be amazing. Twitter sometimes feels like a playground for famous people to swan around while everyone else sits and watches. But if you make a bit of effort to interact with people it can be fun.

Facebook is still my favourite thing on the internet. I know that for some inexplicable reason that's a really unpopular thing to say around here, but I can't pretend that I don't enjoy it.

I feel that blogs as a whole are dumb. Who cares if you slept well?
I agree in general, but blogs on which people try to make intelligent points and encite discussion are of value, but it's pretty hard to do that in three sentences, twenty-seven times a day, ergo; Twitter is worthless.

I think it i really stupid. Also it sounds pretty boring, why should I care about every move you make? It' like inviting me to stalk you.

Twitter, as I said, is mainly used by me as an IM app for my phone, I don't think you can do that with Facebook mobile, or if Myspace even has a mobile client.

Myspace and Facebook imo, should be used to share pictures and videos with people, I tend to think of it as more intimate than simply emailing someone pictures you took, I just feel you can have a better chat about pictures you took with you and your friends on Facebook or Myspace than on email, which would be the only alternative I could think of to actually getting all your friends together at once to talk about something you did, they Facebook works pretty well for IMing. Me and my friends probably wouldn't do as much if we couldn't chat and coordinate events on Facebook.

Twitter is not a carbon copy of either Facebook or Myspace. They are all geared to different things, Facebook for students just wanting to chat with people easily after school, Myspace for... someone, Linked In for businesses, and Twitter is mainly for phones and just chatting via, again, your phone. These each do their applied job well, if you don't like it that's fine, but there is no reason to destroy it, as some in this thread are calling for, or to excessively hate on it, just don't use it.

It's nothing like either. It's a lot more simple. Personally I prefer it to Myspade, but as I said before I still think Faceboob is better.

Is it worth pointing out the hypocrisy of calling them pointless when we are on a video game website? Most things that make life enjoyable are ultimately pointless. Other than light enjoyment, most music, films, songs, games and websites serve no meaningful purpose. But fuck it, it's fun.

Personally I find Facebook a great place to interact with friends I never get to see. If that's pointless then it's nowhere near as pointless as the numerous little creative outlets it gives me. It's a little literary playground if you want it to be. I should probably point out that I don't work for them.

Also, if anyone is on Twitter and enjoys it then follow me if you feel so inclined /AndyVale

Most people keep saying "I don't care" followed by a sentence full of hate towards it.

Makes me wonder if maybe you all just hate it because you couldn't find ten people to care about what you had to say.

There are legit uses for this kind of service. It serves as an easy to follow message board type system. You don't have to use it update the world on what kind of meat (or veggies) you had on your sandwich for lunch. Nobody needs to know your still in your PJs at noon (unless I find you very attractive and can imagine those PJs as skimpy).

Personally I really could care less.
There are legitimate uses for twitter, however it does get used in some cases as a medium for mindless drivel and that is why I don't like it. Not only that too many of my friends get into arguments over what was said on blogs so in general I stay away from them.

I ignore it, like with anything I see that I think is stupid. Like others, I don't see the point. Instant message, e-mail, phone calls, writing letters, making a video to post online, setting up a chat via Skype or something... There are already tons of ways to make contact with people, and they all seem more worthwhile to me than Twitter.
