People don't understand what Twitter is for. It's not an entertainment. It's a platform for people to communicate. So yes, if you get a Twitter account and just stare at it, it's going to be boring. If you only update with "eating a sandwich"/"going to the movies"/"picking my nose", it's going to be boring. If you only follow other people who update with the minutiae of their life, it's going to be boring. That doesn't mean the platform is useless, it means you're not using it well.
Saying you hate Twitter because you haven't found anyone good to follow is like saying you hate your games console because you haven't bought any good games for it. The good stuff is out there, so don't blame the console/social media platform.

I barely know what twitter is and I loathe it with all my being.
Because I know you're a fan, imagine that sentence with "Twitter" replaced by "Halo".
EDIT: To illustrate my point, here are a few examples of Twitter updates that suit the form, instead of just being "clipped my toenails today" or whatever. These are from my account [https://twitter.com/heresathought], and I'm no famous writer, so obviously they're not the best examples you can find. But I hope they demonstrate how Twitter can be useful to send out quick thoughts to anyone who's interested.
I refuse to read a magazine that doesn't have funny captions on its pictures. Better luck next time, The Economist.
