No, swearing is not awesome(.) it make(S) you sound like an idiot most of the time. If you can't communicate without using vulgarities, nobody will take you seriously. If you're having beers with your friends(, well,) in that situation anything goes, but I'd like the rest of the world to know me as a well mannered, mature(,) 25 year old.
If you don't want to sound like and idiot; I suggest you use proper grammer.

Have you ever heard an academic try to swear? It's embarrassing. Good swearing takes some skill. You have to know your own limits and of those around you to pull it off well. Granted many people sound like idiots when they swear, but those who don't should be respected. It's not as easy as dropping in fuck as every second word.

QFT.

And personally, I swear a LOT. But only because I see no point in being offended by a certain grouping of letters if they aren't said with malicious intent.
"Fuck" is a word used regularly in my vocabulary, not so much on forums where I'm making a conscious effort to be concise with my points, but in person, I'm profane to a fairly ridiculous degree, but anyone who knows me doesn't even notice anymore, because I set out using these words as much as you'd say any non-swear word in such a way that they aren't confrontational or malicious.
To me, they're just words.
What harm is there in saying "I think it's shit." rather than "I think it's rubbish" or "beyond rescue" or "subpar" or "below average" or any of that stuff?
It gets the same point out quickly and concisely.

And aswell as that, if you swear heavily but it's common knowledge that you have a good vocabulary and just choose not to use it I think you have every right to swear as often as you'd like.

And besides, "Damn" used to be very offensive, but does it really offend anyone except overly conservative, evangelical Christians anymore?
No.
The more people use the word, the less it will be seen as offensive, which is partially why I swear so much, because I want to contribute to society's acceptance that these words aren't offensive.

Swearing is what the cool kids do.

Seriously though, I swear like a drunken sailor at times, and other times I avoid it. It's all about knowing your audience. People around you aren't going to look at you like an idiot unless they don't themselves converse that way, so I try to just speak with people the way they speak with me. It's a good way to connect with people anyway.

I work nights though, and one thing I've learned firsthand is that the most vulgar people on the planet reside on night crews. Some of the conversations we have are just absolutely repulsive. Doesn't bother me any, but every once in a while we'll get a new guy and I'll have to pull them aside and let them know not to take anything too seriously and let me know if they get offended.

Oh, and look, I made it through this entire fucking post without using one god damn curse you **** discharge.

Yeah Riicek makes a really good point. It's all about scaling your audience and knowing ahead of time whether or not it's going to be received well. Generally I stick to an age based rule though. Older people and younger people; it's probably a bad idea, while people that are around my age will receive it well.

I just have a hard time taking people who swear constantly seriously. At the very least, I find them annoying and I often tend to wonder at their education or lack thereof.

I think it can be very cathartic at times, when you're frustrated sometimes just yelling the most vile words that come to mind can be a good way to relieve stress, other people might not like hearing those words, buuuut I think that hearing unpleasant words is far more tolerable then strangling the nearest person.

I find hearing bleeping (that noise that covers up the swears) is funnier then swears themselves.

Are you serious? Are you just trolling me, or what? I don't take too kind to that sort of crap. Next time you want to attack someone for one spelling mistake and a few percieved grammatical errors, check your own post to make sure it is in tip top shape, guy, or you look like kind of an idiot. Grammar nazi fail!

Is it just me, or is swearing awesome? And I don't get those people who snootily say "How vulgar!" Words are just sounds and shapes that we use to communicate, how the fuck can they offend you?

Swearing can be used to make a point if it's creative and in the right place and not directed at someone in an offensive way. Other than that I abstain from using cuss words. They simply are unappealing.

Swearing is great for those times when you use it to convey strong emotions! When swear words are used too often or just because you enjoy breaking some taboo then they're pointless. What gets to me is when people try to replace swear words with things like "frick" and "fudge". It's not the word that's inherently bad.
