Seriously, i haven't heard any previewer say that he or she thinks it looks exactly like Fallout 3. All it gives you is some new weapons and locations. You could do that in a dlc and get the exact same result! [See The Pit and Point Lookout].

And it doesn't look like they have upgraded the graphics in any way. ANY. I got pissed of when pc gamer described most of the map would be like F3, just with a blue sky. That pissed me off.

You can yell at me all you want, and guess more of what is good is good i suppose, but you know Yahtzee is going to rip on what ive said for about 2 minutes of his episode.

EDIT: After seeing all these replies, how you cant get much more out of the fallout franchise than barren wastelands, how all a sequel is is more of the original, ect.

Fair enough on that first statement, but on that second one, come the fuck on! There have been shitty bad start series that get really good in the second or third game [system shock 2, baulders gate 2, gta 3].

It's not being made by Bethesda, and I agree with what you said. It does look the exact same, which means it's shit, so no buy for me.

Oh, I've noticed, but for these iffy grey areas of "good game sequel/bad game sequal" I just judge once I've played... I wont' shun a game for just that reason

I don't care, because the FO3 graphics by themselves vere fa too extensive in relation to everything else.

If they managed to fix the ridiculous skills, iron out the flaws in the perks, actually have a decent story and more than half a dozen interesting side-quests, the existing graphics are more than up-to-date enough to transform the failiure that was Fallout 3 into a good game.

I don't mind about the graphics at all, if anything it'll make me happily nostalgic for all my time spent in Fallout 3.

What's awesome is that they're paying much more attention to the story, humour and faction karma systems, like in the first two games.

I agree that it's annoying that it looks exactly the same as FO3. However, FO3 was an awesome game, and I wished that they hadn't stopped making expansions for it. So I am going think of FO:NV as one big expansion that I'm being charged nearly £40 for.

You are not alone, however I think it looks slightly worse. I don't really care though, I was always in it for the adventures. That's why I'm getting it.

Even if it turns out to be only as graphically proficient as the last game, it will still be an incredibly detailed world, The Capital Wasteland is one of my favourite sandbox environments, nothing can quite match the desolation it displays. I imagine that as a result its not laziness on their part, rather they dont want to mess with it too much and loose what they had before.

We have only seen little bits out in the Mojave desert so I think its a bit too early to jump to conclusions. Early footage of Halo Reach was whined about because it looked just like Halo 3, but it has turned out to be much more detailed, just keeping the same aesthetic which has been established by the previous games.

Fallout 3 was a superb game, (i returned to it last week for another run through) and it is virtually unmatched in terms of atmosphere. The thing about it is, the controls arent brilliant, the character interaction is a little wooden, but the world that is created is incredible. This is what you forget. You go on to tighter controlling games, more explosions, other worlds, but nothing is quite the same.

There are also the following changes:

New play mechanics (improved shooting, aim down sights, third person view changed, follower system updated, special VATS attacks)

Different currencies and karma systems for each faction - an approve/disapprove system

A completely different vibe (Vegas was not hit by nukes and is still in good shape)

An entire new map the size of the capital wasteland

Gambling on the strip

Hardcore mode

More quests than Fallout 3

What else is it you want? It's a Fallout game, of course it's going to be similar.

Pretty much all Fallout games have the same environment, you know. A post-apocalyptic wasteland wouldn't be too varied, I would think.

Yeah, the fact the graphics are identical to Fallout 3 piss me off a little too.
I'm honestly a little skeptical about New Vegas; sure, it's more Fallout, but Obsidian aren't exactly known for making fantastic games as of late (Alpha Protocol, anyone?)
I'm not going to pre-order it; I need some positive reviews before I decide whether to purchase it or not.

The reason it looks similar is that they used the same engine to create it. Thats pretty much where the similarities end. Yes the map will be large and open with some scattered cities kind of like fallout 3 or more accuratly like the area surrounding vegas actually is.

As for the dlc comment its very rare to have dlc the size of new vegas. All of oblivions, fallout 3s, & dragon ages dlc combined would still be smaller then this game is. People see the same graphics and say oh this is just like some dlc but more expensive. Except its not its a completely new fucking game. It doenst just give you new weapons and locations. It gives you a new game with new weapons, locations, enemies, side quests, main story, etc. Kind of like you know what any sequal gives you minus the graphics update.

If they had used the same engine for gta4 as san andreas would you have comlained that it should have been an expansion and not a new game? Did people complain halo 2 should just have been a halo 1 expansion? No they didnt because its a completely new fucking game just like this is.
Eh i don't know, we will just be going through the same motions as we did in Fallout 3.

Gameplay is more important than graphics, so I don't give a flying fuck.

Also, Fallout 3 managed to get me very immersed from the start thanks to it's engine, walking outside of the vault and seeing that massive wasteland in front of me was quite the shocker, something very few games managed to do with me.

I'm looking foward to New Vegas, as it's going to be my #1 RPG for quite some time.
