I've noticed, and I'm not sure I'm okay with it. I hated the look of Fallout 3. A great game, mind you, and great environments, but some people looked like they just got beaten with an ugly stick. I'm not sure I want to sit through that again.
Character models in Fallout 3 were far less "hit with an ugly stick"-esque than all the ones in Oblivion, IMHO.

More of the same. But it'll sell because of that

Why make something 'great' when something 'good' will sell better?

I'm sure there's many people with a similar opinion to you. But I don't mind the graphical similarities between the 2008 Fallout 3 and 2010 Fallout: Las Vegas.

If the presentation is similar, I'll assume that the two-year gap for technological progression and improvements with coding and development has allowed for a larger, more diverse and more intriguing world-map. If the possible space is actually reduced then I'd start to complain. I just didn't like the emphasis on the gambling mini-games during the demos. I doubt many people will touch those unless they make it integral to the gameplay or offer a trophy or something.

I was saying the majority of people have lost the knowledge of technology. Most of the tech in Fallout 3 is either surviving tech from the old days or damaged tech that has been rudimentarily fixed. It's safe to say the people of Fallout 3 could not build a spaceship like we could today - for lack of knowledge and materials.

The whole idea of the Fallout universe is that it takes humanity to the bottom rung of the ladder of power and intelligence.
See there mission the whole point of the fallout universe. It has nothing to do with the post apocalyptic setting. Its not about humanity being at the bottom of power and intelligence. Its about human nature, you take this same human nature in no matter what envrioment and you get the same set of bastardisation. You get people intentionally harming others for selfish desires. That is what fallout is about, its about examining human behavior even in the toughest of conditions they will still turn on eachother if its in their interest.

Well actually the did rebuild a space ship in fallout 2 so....

Again, human error. How would he know you'd be killed if he escaped?

I swear he even apologizes to you when he finds out.
I knew it wouldnt have been safe. Im not psychologist but when you recognise an insanely obsessive overseer and someone breaks his zone of control, its safe to assume that hes going to want to take it out on someone. Also why can throughout the entire game when askd why you left the vault, you can never say "becasue you were forced out". You always have to say because your trying to find your father. This has always compounded the frustration of the entire experience.

LordCuthberton said:
You expect continuity? As did the Roman empire but it didn't happen to theme either. Language twists where you take it. You ask for the impossible.
What are you talking about? Im not asking for the impossible, im asking for common sense.

Continuity of language would demand that people in the region must have spoken in that accent 200 years ago for somenoe to have an Irish accent. So for that language to actually pass on there must have been a surviving Irish community for 200 years up until the point where the player meet the Irish character. So where are they?

You say immigration but the only reasonable place a Irish community could have survived is Ireland. No way in hell they could have crossed the ocean so how did a SINGLE PERSON get an Irish accent. Hes seems to have lived in Megaton for sometime so there had to be an Irish community there prewar.

LordCuthberton said:
It's stated that nobody knows it's active but Burke and Sheriff Simms.

The children of atom don't have a clue what it is.
So this religion happily allows you to mess with it? I dont buy that.

LordCuthberton said:
I liked it. The way it chose if one of the most prominent locations in the game stays or goes. The morality of it all.
I almost broke out laughing at that comment. Moral choice of "KILL EVERYONE, DONT KILL EVERYONE". Thats a deep moral choice for you is it? It kinda astounds me that anyone can find that to be anything more than a joke.

LordCuthberton said:
The vaults were heavily publicised.
Pre-war they were. Not post-war. Anyone on the surface during the bombs dropping (particularly so close to D.C) would have died, so the only logical explanation is they went hunting for it post war. What did they do? Aimlessly wander around inspecting every single cave until they found one that didnt house a pissed off yaoi gui?

LordCuthberton said:
Desperate times call for desperate measures.

The founders were in the middle of a wasteland and the crater provided ample room to build in and protected them from weather. The fact it was a airplane crater was that there was materials to build shelter out of. It all sort of expanded from there really.
Scrap metal. That was the resource huh? The stuff strewn everywhere in every direction? Righhhht. How does a hole protect someone from the weather?

LordCuthberton said:
Slave labour. Doesn't count.

Functioning factories? Name one.

They used Brotherhood workers for that. With no giant enemy (Enclave) to worry about they put resources and time into production of bottled water.
Not the pruduction of bottle water. The production of the bottles. Whether they be glass or plastic. These things need to be mass produced, using machinery. How did they do that?

LordCuthberton said:
Rules of drama.

It's dramatic that's why. It's like trying to explain a dream sequence. It's there for drama and nit picking it is looking at it in the entirely wrong way.
Its not nitpciking if nothing about it makes any sense, if the CORE CONCEPT is wrong. How can you compare something literally happening right in front of the players eyes to a dream sequence? A dream sequence is supposed to be less than fluid. The physical interactions of characters is supposed to make sense. This does not. How can i say this politely? THERE IS NO DRAMA IF THE SCENE DOESNT MAKE ANY SENSE.

LordCuthberton said:
I see hints of love for Fallout 1 and 2.

I can't change what you think. Sorry.
I like things that make sense. Fallout 3 did not make any sense, therfore i cannot like it. Fallout 1 made a lot of sense. Fallout 2 made some sense. Therfore approapriate degrees of liking is attributed to both. They are by no means the best games around but they made sense.

LordCuthberton said:
No idea.
That's the Enclave though, bastards because they can.
That kinda sums up Fallout 3 for me. Nothing has any reason or logic behind it. You do realise evil people dont wake up in the morning saying "How evil can i be today!" (cookie for the quote). They do things for a reason, usually to gain something. They wouldnt just throw away their finite troops for no reason. Unforuntately, like most things in Fallout 3, it doesnt have a reason.

LordCuthberton said:
They can't assualt places, god no.

I was saying they can defend well.

They're rooted in defence, they can take on most things thrown at them, they just can't throw themselves.
That doesnt make any sense. A single supermutant could overrun the entire town, even pretending that these kids dont have the mentality of children but as of battle hardened soldiers. Your telling me, that the highest concentration of super mutants in the entire capital wasteland are unable to defeat a handful of kids with guns protcted by plywood? If you answer yes, you lose all credibility. This isnt home alone.

LordCuthberton said:
Again, human error.
I assume you mean human error on the part of the developers?

LordCuthberton said:
Fungi? Really?
What do you mean Fungi? The SUPER MUTANTS EAT PEOPLE OR TURN THEM INTO SUPER MUTANTS. What do you think those gore bags are for? Seems like the kids would have big "EAT ME" sign on their fence.

LordCuthberton said:
Maybe they made the mistake of attacking and suffered losses? We never know. What we do know is that they keep their distance. There's probably a reason why.
See now your making excuses for the game not explaining something highly illogical. You cant do that and hold any reasonable arguement. The fact is, something which makes no sense exists in the game world and it did nothing to explain or justify it.

LordCuthberton said:
No idea. Sorry. I can't explain that.
I need explanations, i can accept a few minor flaws running in a game (ala fallout 2 for example) but time and time again this is result of trying to explain things.

LordCuthberton said:
Because others do. It lets them die quicker.

Besides, if you were a multimillionaire and saw a note on the floor, you would pick it up, right? Same principle, just with the Enclave and a water device.
That doesnt make sense. Stop throwing strawmans in here. The encalve ARE dying in their assault on the capital wasteland and specificlly the purifier. They risked hundrends of their soldiers to do nothing. Its not like that at all. Its as if a mullionaire saw a piece of cheese in a mouse trap. Why would he risk breaking his fingers for cheese? Something completely worthless to him and puts him at risk. Your arguement makes no sense.

LordCuthberton said:
Final mission. They don't really need you to keep playing at that point.
Then why bother having it? Why not just end the game? Oh wait, they want to sell me DLC dont they. THATS WHY THEY WANT ME TO KEEP PLAYING.

LordCuthberton said:
I can't remember. Search the Fallout wiki for me.
Thats your job not mine. Your the one trying to convince me that it isnt more than a poor excuse for a narrative.

LordCuthberton said:
I hate to sound really snobby, but you just don't understand it.
I dont understand that there is drama in nothing? I dont understand that you can find drama in a moment where only an someone foolish enough to commit suicide can create that drama.

Perhaps you just dont understand how drama and tension work?

LordCuthberton said:
That's good. An interpretation.
You know that was entirely sarcasm right? I was insulting the stupidity of a game so inept in its character design that every action taken in the game was illogical, irrational, and simply painful for the player to sit there and watch.

LordCuthberton said:
Sure it's not like my pretentious opinion of it, but for all we know that could be the script writers intention of the piece and you nailed it on the head.
Again, i was being sarcastic. Im commenting on how ludicrusly bad this is. Your providing numerous excuses trying to turn something irrational into some bizzarre idea of a masterpiece. It reminds me of how conspiracy theorists work.

LordCuthberton said:
I really want to comment on this but I'm on probation. For another day.

Or you just disregard that section and we become happy family's again.
Your the one who thought not wanting to commit suicide made me a coward.

LordCuthberton said:
Er no. The thread was asking if anyone else thinks the games look exactly the same.
You replied to me when I said I enjoyed it with a jumbled set of questions.
So no, it was not asked.

I liked it.
But please, elaborate intelligently on why you believe all of the above.
Yes, yes it was asked for.

So what? ACreed Brotherhood is practically a 2.5, but it looks great. The Source engine has been used for years but it has sustained and resulted in multiple awesome games. The Halos are practically the same (apart from graphics, but that's a given). The gears of war games are practically the same. Mario, Pokemon, and LOZ games are "all the same". But who cares? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Besides, GTA3 took place in three different locations with the same engine, but all three were absolutely superb. Obviously, if you didn't like Fallout 3, you're probably not going to like new vegas. But if you did like it, than I see no reason not buy it (unless you're short on funds of course)

It's just another snide hint for that extra humour, colin is a negative stereotype so negative in fact that colin manged to reach in GameRadar's most offensive Irish stereotypesif you managed to think for one second.

Regardless, it is explained that Colin has Irish ancestors dating back to pre-war with his father who died farily recently (on fallout's time-scale) which in any case if you are asking for *logical* answers then I would have to question why you may think that Fallout series make any sense at all, after all it is only fiction for a reason

Because past iterations of fallout have made sense?

*cough*

yes! because the Forced Evolutionary Virus made perfect sense, its just about as fiction (even more so unrealistic) than the T-Virus

I agree that it's annoying that it looks exactly the same as FO3. However, FO3 was an awesome game, and I wished that they hadn't stopped making expansions for it. So I am going think of FO:NV as one big expansion that I'm being charged nearly £40 for.
So its agreed, the game is still awesome! :)

I fucking loved Fallout 3 and its many (well...five...shut up) expansions, and I can't wait until New Vegas comes out.

If the graphics got any *ahem* better, my laptop probably wouldn't cope. Do we REALLY care for graphics that badly?

Aylaine said:
I noticed that, but it poses a bigger issue that many people aren't aware of: same look, thus same engine, thus same bugs that the same engine had in the same last installment.
Well, maybe they've updated it?

C'moooooon, the plot wasn't that bad, at least it was different other than 'aliens/Russians are attacking!!!'

Well, aliens did attack in one of the expansions...well, kinda in the main game actually...shut up!

Possible. But Bethesda could have fixed the issues with it before they ported it to F03 from Oblivion, which they did not do apparently. There was a massive outcry on their forums about how buggy and unstable the game is, so hopefully they've fixed it. x.x
Well the only major problems I came across was the disappearing people and the occasional crash when I quick-save, so I hope it's as buggy as it was

Yeah, because you play with your eyes, so that's what REALLY matters. But wait, it's not an aesthetic problem, it's technical. So you need BETTER GRAPHICS, not a different look.

However, it does look different. Well, as different as you could make a game set in a post-apocalyptic world, where almost everything was blown to shit.

I really can't understand how this is being made into an actual subject of discussion.
