You are of course the only one. The rest of the world knew you didn't know but we all kept it a secret for shits and giggles.

No your are not the only one, only reason I know was becasue I had a Playstation and I remember seeing them, and playing with a friend once. Wasn't exactly my kind of game through.
You, sir, have the best avatar i've seen yet.

OT: twisted metal has been around forEVER. I remember when my dad used to take me to 'take your kid to work day', one of his co-workers set up a dos machine for me to play twisted metal 2 on. Amazingly addictive game.

I LOVED Twisted Metal, I grew up with those games, man! There was racing, and evil clowns, and cars blowing up and it was just so AWESOME!

I may actually have to buy a PS3 now, just so I can play this!

I played Head On on the PSP and loved it... too bad it was a rental. Never played any of the old ones, but hopefully they'll go onto PSN or something for the release of this game. I'm excited for it though, because they could do great things with the multiplayer.

I liked Twisted Metal but actually prefered Vigilante 8. I'm not overly wow'ed by the announcement of a new Twisted Metal but I will watch it with some interest.

I still prefer the old PC game Quarantine to both of them. Tesla Cannon FTW!

If you we're looking during the PS2 era you wouldn't know it. It died at that point.

Twisted Metal was a classic on PSX, and those of us who grew up hanging out and playing playstation with the neighborhood kids, Twisted Metal means a LOT.

I'm a PC gamer here, so I've never heard of it either. It looks.. ehhh. I don't really care for racing games in the first place, though.

Sony's press conference. I was watching it away, live on GameTrailers, when suddenly, some trailer with a bunch of flame-headed clowns comes along.

"huh, some kind of new franchise?" I think... then, suddenly, Sony rolls on a fucking Ice cream van, the crowd goes insane, and David Jaffe of all people comes along and says that its the longest running franchise of the Playstation brand.

"what the hell is this 'Twisted Metal'?" I think to myself "I mean, it looks pretty cool but I've never heard of it before!"

I look down at the comments; general reaction appears to be "FINALLY! TWISTED METAL YES!" and I'm still feeling utterly confused.

Here in the UK, at least, I never heard of the Twisted Metal franchise... during the PS2 era, I looked through game stores many times but I never once recall coming across anything called such a thing, or any game which looked to have such a distinct style.

Now, I like to think I watch the gaming industry like a hawk... big title games rarely miss my gaze (unless its a big event like E3), and so finding out that an entire big title franchise had missed me kinda gave me a little shock.

Has anyone else been in the same situation? I vaguely heard somewhere that Twisted Metal had less of an impact in Europe... could that have something to do with it?
Twisted Metal was big on the origional Playstation. It faded by PS2 time, then came back a bit with Black, but most find it a lesser TM game compaired to say, 2. Closest I came to something like this was Gears of War. Before it came out, I only heard of the name, seen some grey rubble and everyone was all ooo over it.

I've heard of it, never knew what it was, but I know it exists. So, I guess I half didn't know what it was.

I remember reading the instruction manual in the first Twisted Metal involving the Suburban level, you would run over people as you blow everything up. But you couldn't run over the dogs, you'd just drive right through them. When I read "Because, we're not that sick." I laughed.

Twisted Metal was a funny, morbid video game. Even Twisted Metal Black, the more dark incarnation, got me laughing in some parts. So it was nice to see they didn't throw away their roots entirely. I do hope they get back to the funny stuff though, while still retaining the awesome of setting pedestrians on fire and watching them run around screaming or throwing a Ricochet and watching them chop the people to bits.

What? Oh, like none of you ever did that.

Never played Twisted Metal?. Wow... I used to play the original game when I was a kid. Haven't played a game passed Twisted Metal 2 but I still heard about them. I mean wow... never heard of it never mind never played it?... That's up there with never hearing or playing Mortal Kombat. I don't know if I should feel old or not. I can understand the younger generation not hearing about it... Some times I fail to realise how long the PS2 has been out for and that the newer generation of gamers will have grown up on the PS2 while I grew up on the N64,PS1, Sega Saturn, SNES and such. So we'll have grown up on much different games.

Damn young whippersnappers, never heard of Twisted Metal...sheesh.
Gessh beat me to it.

There was a time in the young Sony Playstation era when there wasn't a whole lot going on for the system. Before Final Fantasy 7 (Which I'm sure all of you have heard of... Which is disappointing in it's own way...) all we had on the PSX was Battle Arena Toshinden, Ridge Racers, that Demolition Derby game, and Twisted Metal.

Of course I got interested in the PSX thanks to WCW vs the World which had a massive wrestling roster. Then along came Resident Evil and I was buying disks left and right. Of course I had the Saturn before that... I really liked Virtua Fighter and Panzer Dragoon. LoL
Damn it Ninja'd

Well I don't know about the new game but the original games weren't racing games... They were more like Death Race without the racing... Destruction Derby but with guns.

I remember playing it once or twice when on the original playstation when I was younger. It really stuck out in my memory, but I had no idea they ever made more than one. I'm gonna have to play this new one.
