Do you not like it because its hard with your party setup? Not trying to insult you, just wondering. I honestly found that to be one of the best boss fights I've had in ages. Kind of felt like a WOW boss.

I think a lot of people's problems with DA2 is less the game on it's own merits, but rather that it is not Dragon Age Origins (or, for some, not Baldur's Gate 2). Which is fair- if people like a game, they want the next game to feel similar. I don't feel it justifies the ridiculously low scores on Metacritic, though.

As for my take- it's good. The combat is fun. The only thing I really miss is the straight-down tactical camera from Origins. But combat is fun and exciting, cross class combos encourage planning party builds as well as single character builds, and the whole thing feels more visceral than Origins, which you felt disconnected from ,due to combat's plodding pace.

As for the story, it's good. At first, the story feels like it lacks drive. then you adjust to the storytelling style, and you're immersed. I really like it.

If there is one gripe to be made about this game, it's the environment design. This is where it's very obvious that corners were cut. using the exact same cave for half a dozen or more different dungeons is, frankly, lazy and inexcusable.

Barring that, still a great game, and worth checking out.

Overall, the game feels very daring, and perfect or no I think it will be regarded as a milestone in RPG history in a way its relatively safe predecessor will not.
This is an overall great post Evil, and I'd like to draw attention to the part I quoted above. Since I finished it I've been saying things along the lines that Origins was a good game but was held back by its spiritual predecessor and not enough of its own experience. And now that you've put it that way, I think its a great way to say it. Dragon Age: Origins was safe. It was good, even great, but it was SAFE for Bioware. And in an industry plagued by stagnation and a follow-the-leader mentality, I applaud any serious attempts at progress, even if there are some stumbles (of which I think DA2 has quite a few of) along the way.

Also the point about Varric is great =)

-Enemies who come from nowhere. Seriously, this sucks. I have no clue how to pace myself in battle because there may or may not be another wave coming. Worst change in the game.
I actually dig this change. Now when I'm getting ready to wrap up the first wave of guys I have to ask myself "Do I use my specials now and kill these guys faster, or do I conserve them and my stamina in case another wave pops up on me?" It adds a lot of tension to the combat. Though I think they WAY overdid it. Reinforcements should in be in fights where it is feasible for that to happen or maybe if you take too long in the fight or choose poor dialog options, as opposed to pretty much every other fight. It gets a little tiresome I will admit.

I don't deny that DA II is better than Origins in almost every way, I just think that the same reasons I got bored of Origins are why I bored of II before beating it. I did beat it, so I've seen the crazy awesome ending, which is crazy awesome, but up to that point I felt kind of growing bored of each section. I like the story, the character development, the graphics. I feel like the combat is well put together, but my problem with the combat is that it's either boring or too hard. I either feel irritatingly challenged, or just zone out spamming the attack button and using skills whenever I can. I don't really feel like there's too much to the combat, and I end up dreading a conflict on my way from quest to quest. I'm sure the combat's fun for some, but for me, it's just too straightforward.

I thought it was different but I still really liked it. I'm on my second run of the game as a mage and it is still a blast. And I still don't care people might hate it.

I apologize if there are any bizarre typos. Still getting used to my Droid. But Mobile Escapes makes me happy!

I, too, love DA2. I honestly don't see why people call "ruined forever" on it for having things like the dialog wheel or companions with their own armor sets.

BioWare at least tried to justify the Qunari having horns now. They didn't in the first game because the devs couldn't get the horns to work with helmets. Sten (our DA:O Sten) was born without them, and among the Qun, it's a sign of greatness. Others tend to cut them off if they leave. Doesn't explain the Dalish's accents, though.

I do have a few complaints:
1. Why is it BioWare can't have five minuets pass in a game without some heart-rending tragedy? I can only think of one quest that had a definitively happy ending for everyone. And it was an optional side-quest. I understand drama is all but necessary for a serious epic, but seriously!

2. I will openly admit that Merrill's accent is adorable, but where the hell did it come from?

3. Where's Leliana?

4. Sometimes, things happen out of order. For e.g., I was romancing Merrill, and I got her romance scene before I did her personal quest. I was confused.

5. WHERE THE FUCK IS LELIANA?!

6. Being unable to pick race, although that one's understandable since you just can't fit the (minimum) six different voices onto that disk with everything else, without even factoring in the different moods Hawke can take, and all the changed lines all the characters would have to have to reflect Hawke's race, AND the voices for Hawke's family. I can let that one slide.

7. Oh, there she is. Nevermind.

8. For the first two acts or so of the game, there isn't really all that much of a story. There's not really a central antagonist, or ultimate goal. The goal of the first act is to gather party members and go on the Deep Roads expedition. The second act ends with a spoiler, but you got rid of the guy, so still, not much goin' on. I'm late in the game, and NOW it's getting clearer. Everything before that just seemed like little more than padding. There's some pretty strong hints, but beyond that...

On the other hand:
1. Characters' personalities better blah blah blah.
2. Dialog wheel improvement, interaction yaddah yaddah.
3. Character and facial animation, graphics yap yap yap.
4. Also, Merrill is the most adorable thing since ever. I don't care how many macho-points I lose for saying it. I will say it again if I have to.

What I really don't understand is why people hate the changes done to combat.

Because THERE WEREN'T ANY CHANGES DONE TO COMBAT.

The only differences are now you have to move your character to the enemy yourself and tap a button to do a basic attack. Otherwise, COMBAT IS. EXACTLY. THE SAME. Sure, it's faster, but that was one of the bigger (but still small) complaints I had with Origins, was that the combat left me a little wanting. DA2's combat is a lot more visceral and involving, and it looks and feels a lot better than it did while you were just watching two guys wander calmly up to one another try to smack each other with swords, occasionally pushing the "hit him harder" button.

Also, going off-topic here, I propose that Hawke is the Chuck Norris of the Dragon Age universe.
S/He makes guys twice his/her size EXPLODE WITH HIS/HER SWORD.

I'm really enjoying it so far. It's bigger than the original and I'm actually tempted to go back and get the Origins/ Awakening double pack so I can upload saves from there onto my next DA2 play-through. From the prologue to the Expedition to the Deep Roads, I spent about 10 hours doing side quests, companion quests and other random things. There was even a hurry-the-hell-up mission in which another dwarf offered to give me the money I needed to get the game rolling!

My biggest complaints are actually quite small. Marrill, for example, acts a lot like Liara from ME1 (a Liara who is more prone to head injuries). I'm trying to start a relationship with her but it seems every relationship opening I get only comes up when I'm talking to the men in my party (except for Varric, who I would totally go gay for in-game)

Another thing: the swords look like (and have always looked like) something made by fisher-price.

Like I said, minor complaints.

Nothing wrong with my party setup, but as soon as Anders fell Aveline, Varric and Hawke went down fast. Got over it eventually.

Just finished my first playthrough and almost immediately began another one.
Its a good game that Im gonna keep playing, but I keep getting the feeling it could've been a lot better if Bioware had been given more time with it. Its overall pretty good, but..inconsistent imo

Only about 90% of game reviewers hail it as the best/most innovative RPG ever made, so no you are not alone.

I however see it's a rushjob, but I understand it really, DA:O was out at the end of 2009 and DA2 at the start of 2011, that gives them barely a year to develop a game of these proportions, and sadly it really shows.
The down side is this being a more casual oriented game it will sell far better then it's predecessor, so take a wild guess what they will be doing from now on...

It has its faults, but the game is no where near as bad the "purists", if you will, would lead you to believe.

wow.. not only did you not read the first line where i state that i know im not the only one, you've managed to out-do the other 6 or so people who told me im not the only one by not contributing anything to this thread at all... bravo.

Can people stop saying *You are never the only one!*

That's relevant in many *am i da onli one* threads, but as he clearly stated in the first line of OP, he is aware he is not the only one.

Stop trying to be clever, because you're failing fucking miserably.
haha thank you, i feel like YOU are the only one who noticed that line
as for your other points you're probably right, its not the sequal people where expecting (thats the case for me but i've been pleasantly suprised) but the demo did come out ages ago so if people didnt like it they shouldnt have bought the game

You know, I like the game. It has nice parts and bad parts. I don't know if it is as good as Origins, but it took me like three playtrough to get Origins to we'll see.

Defiantly liked it more then th first. Every twist or event of note that DA 1 had was, to me balanced by something that undermined it. Oh, the king's been betrayed?..ok that was just funny to me but the characters where dull, stupid or downright annoying. Now DA 2 on the other hand I found myself honestly angry at what Isabella did (not saying) and the thing with Hawke's mother was almost moving

So yes, long story short I'm enjoying it enough to contemplate another playthrough within the next few days rather then months
DA2 honestly feels like Dante's argument of Empire Strikes Back being the best Star Wars in Clerks. And to me it makes it very emotionally engaging albeit depressing.

found the video :) I love youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6lzEhoXads now if only I knew how to embed...
