It's cause some Xbox's are full of fail. Most, however, if treated right, aren't. It's trying to tell you not to play Crackdown =]

My Xbox 360 is apparently way better than those of my freinds. My freind says that once he left a game in his 360 for an hour and he got the RRoD. I left CoD4 in mine for two days, then turned it on, and it worked fine. Oh, and all my friends say 'You need to buy 360 his own personal fan or he'll die', but I live in Texas (a.k.a. Hell, temperature-wise), and hardly use the air conditioner, but it still works fine every day. It even tipped over on its side once and no RRoD! Also, what I've noticed is, the GameCube and Xbox of last gen were incredibly durable, both taking a hit from a sledgehammer, and yet the Wii and 360 are so fragile, we always hear stories about people who poke thier beloved consoles only to be rewarded with flaming shrapnel and the RRoD. Just an obseravtion.

Only once I had the RROD and it was because I had just got Xbox Live so I invited some mates around, right? We played Halo 3 16 hours straight and then it happened and wouldn't turn back on. So I sent it to get repaired, got it back in a week and was given 1 month FREE Xbox Live, So I was like... yay. I have also never had a problem since.

Sincerly,
Jordan Johnson.

I'm on 360 number 3 now since I bought one in 2006. The first one went RROD on me after about a year. The second one started scratching and seriously damaging all my discs to the point of unplayability and then the disc drive stopped reading all together. After doing some research I learned of some 360's having problems with disc scratching due to the grommets that stabilize the disc drive wearing out due to poor quality. (Another cheap parts problem) My 3rd 360 with the HDMI cable has been good for about 6 months now, keeping my figners crossed. It is also much quieter when it reads of the disc I've noticed. Doesn't sound like a bandsaw anymore.

Having not played it in a week or so...I turned mine on to watch a dvd. It purrs. Didn't do that before...but it actually -sounds- like a purring kitty. o_O Was a little spooked at first and I thought one of our cats was hiding in my room. But...it's an improvedment, it's quieter and has lost it's ffrrrrbrbbbbbb noise that it had before.

Can location be a factor? I live in the UK & my 360 has never had a problem, nor any of my friend's 360's.
The majority of the horror stories seem to come from America, so could the different power supply & climate be a factor?

I've had a 360 for a year and a half and only once had it not work and thats because I had put the audio visual cables in wrong and out of the maybe 40 people i know with a 360 only 5 have ever gotten the RRoD so yeah i guess with 360s it u get one and it works or u get one and its trash. But even with that draw back its light years better then a PS3. I'm not saying that to start a console war here I'm just stating my view. (something no one ever seems to respect)

I've had my 360 for two and a half years now and it's never seriously annoyed me. It's overheated twice (both entirely my fault; never leave it in an airtight room), one solved just by restarting it, the other involved a ten minute cool-down and it was ready for action again.

I should probably point out that I live in the UK and on average I play maybe 4-5 hours a day, possibly, nay probably, more. It went for an entire 27 hour sitting once and had no problems. It?s fallen a metre or so once, been hurled about in a bag four times before I remembered it was in there and has never eaten any of my disks. Unfortunately, my brother wanted to play on my copy of Perfect Dark Zero the first day he got his 360 and his 360 made one hell of a meal out of that. A bit of toothpaste later and it was running again with no apparent frame rate issues or loading problems. It took me three months to trust my brother's 360 again. Since then it has also eaten his copy of Oblivion and Vegas. Not my games, so fine by me!

I can't say I treat it the best in the world; I don't give it its own wind tunnel or an airbag-lined platform to rest on. However, I haven?t done anything particularly wrong with it either (except what was mentioned above). I guess half of it's up to care and half of it's up to luck.

Still Weasel MK. II (don?t ask) seems to be holding its own. Of course, sod?s law states that tomorrow, when I have a party, it will get RRODed.

I've had my 360 roughly 2 years now. No problems at all with it.

Although when I do notice the temprature in the room getting warmer, I switch it off. Those buggers make a lot of heat. You could dry socks on the damn thing.

I have a launch 360 and nothing has ever even come close to being wrong with mine. Hope I didn't jinx it.

I got my 360 the March after launch (because GAME are a wonderfully reliable store when it comes to pre-orders and had god knows how many thousand more pre-orders than consoles on release date, lucky me) and it's still working fine. It's been carted up and down the country in a suitcase on the train, used for days on end and generally treated the same way as all my other consoles. That said it did get the RRoD a couple of months ago after I'd been playing on it for over 12 hours, but then I count that as my own fault because I'm pretty sure that classes as 'unreasonable use' or something. I just restarted it and it was fine, no problems since.

As an American I disagree completely. As for climate, a friend of mine who has had a similar lack of problems lives in Texas, while I'm on Long Island.

I've had my Xbox 360 since Christmas following the system's release, and the only thing it did was ding a guy's copy of HALO 2. And I don't really mind, because he'd read a lot of forums about how to preserve the life of your system, so he propped it up between bookends. It fell over during gameplay and snapped the disc. His fault. :D

Same here, belive it or not I think they started working fine since late in December. I also thought they were gonna call them 180's after they Re-released brand new modles.

Ive had my xbox360 since christmas with no problems and it came with 3 yr warranty. Also I will not buy a PS3 until the price is lower because I went through so many ps2's like 3 compared to having my old original xbox to this day still working sweet.

I got mine from a pawn shop. It lasted about a year. I replaced it with a ps3 because it has fewer games for me to spend my money on, and I'm a squeenix fanboy. Also, I love MGS4. Until it got the red ring of death, I was sure that I had the only stable Xbox 360 in existence, and then, my heart was broken, and I bought a Ps3 to spite Microsoft.

Coming up on one year of ownership and no problems so far. The only time I've seen the Ring of Lights turn red was once when I turned it on without the AV cables connected to anything.

The only problem I've had is that it doesn't like to be mounted vertically. The games tended to freeze up. Horizontally, they run fine.
