If you're into the MMS genre then yeah PS2 is not what you're looking for - and I'm very grateful for that.
The game handles very solid and has massive battles going on within if you know where to go. If you end up dying every second after you spawn then you're doing it wrong ;D
That, and some idiot placed a spawn point out in the open like a real dipshit. Going to have to agree with the people claiming the playerbase is pretty damn retarded, cause yeah, there's plenty of dumb-ass moves going on in PS2. Especially the teamkilling on galaxies and the likes. GOD DAMNIT PEOPLE, are you color blind? use the color blind mode!

I'm assuming it'll get better once I found myself an outfit and people got familiar with the game.
At least they've already learned to stay the fuc inside the vehicles, unlike they do in battlefield. So we're getting there.

Summary of the previous posts:

Yes. Yes, you are the only one that thinks Planetside 2 is boring. Yes, you are a snowflake. Unique. Irreplaceable. Your oppinion is valuable and your review very eloquently explains why a seemingly large group of people's enjoyment is but a charade of empty lies. We bow to you.

*end scene*

That hurt a bit. In seriousness, I might check it out. It looks nice and it's a price that I'll gladly pay, so it can't hurt. Worst case scenario is that I don't like it, and the only thing I would have lost is some time.

The moment I saw the Thread title I knew the ravenous hoards would descend upon the OP faster than a pack of Grammar Nazis on an incorrect use of "there". IT'S A FIGURE OF SPEECH PEOPLE! Just stop! You don't look clever or witty for pointing out the predictably obvious. It just comes off as obnoxious. Good god.

I have mixed feelings.

On one hand, the games confusing and disorienting (especially at first), the shooting isn't that great, I really don't like the slow down to a crawl to have any chance of hitting something mechanic (aka aim down sights) that is so prevalent in modern shooters, I die way to fast, it feels like it's hard to have any real impact, and it's entirely possible to end up stranded in the middle of nowhere when absolutely nothing is going on.

On the other hand, storming an enemy base with hundreds of people is fucking awesome.

So, I'll probably occasionally hop on, but I doubt I'm going to be a regular player.

I personally don't like the persistent world aspect. I like to feel like the game is based around me, but I know I wouldn't get that with Planetside. And besides that the gunplay looks extremely similar to Battlefield games, and that is my biggest problem with Battlefield games. And finally I don't like the fact that it takes fraking ages to get anywhere in that game. Running/ driving/ flying in one direction for 5 or 10 minutes isn't my idea of fun.

In short; no I don't like Planetside 2 either. But I can see how it might appeal to some people.

With planetside, it's pretty boring if your alone. You need friends to play with in that, and over time, you need to find out when a facility is lost. I've been on the receiving end of enemies spawn-camping while they wait for a facility to be captured, and I'll certainly agree that it's not fun.

Get your 6 person squad in a platoon though? And you're a moving, unstoppable wall. Even when those filthy terrans[footnote]:p[/footnote] and vanu try to stop you with their own Platoon. Maybe this was the feeling that Battlefield tried to capture, but in every BF game, they failed miserably, where Planetside succeed.

@CardinalPiggles, while the world may not revolve around you, you alone, can actually make the lives of your teammates 8 times easier when you remove enemy influence by capturing sectors around the point your team is fighting in. I think that feels like having a pretty good impact on things.

I don't dislike it, per se, but it doesn't seem that entertaining. It's like they took Unreal or Tribes and just stretched out the maps, so rather than a confined area of fun you have a huge area that's less striking.

Nothing wrong with that. Also the weapons I've seen have been rather bland.

Don't you mean the Star-ship Troopers?

There are 6 billion people on the planet we call Earth. So no, probably not.

Smart ass comments aside, I also dislike it. After being dropped into the middle of a war zone with not so much as a mission briefing or a tutorial only to find out it was CoD with a futuristic skin was extremely disappointing. I'll stick to FireFall for now.

And frankly speaking, it seems the general skill level of the players is quite subpar. I haven't played a shooter besides TF2 since MW2 was fresh off the press and I still managed to get a huge kill streak before I ended up wandering into enemy territory and being surrounded.

The game then proceeded to spawn me in the line of fire of enemies causing me to insta-die upon spawn about five times in a row before I shut the game down and uninstalled it.
You realise that the average skill level for any game is surprisingly low? You're much less exposed to those in a much more confined space, especially in MW where recoil is nonexistent. That's not a criticism of any game it's just a fact, the average player is just that: average. Planetside 2 merely has the problem of being very unforgiving on mistakes.

In contrast I personally found Firefall bland and shallow in comparison to PS2, the actual open world has almost no point to it and it's just another small team game with chunky graphics and unimpressive shooting and movement. PS2 is mostly a vehicle game, the shooting is simplistic if not fantastically easy like CoD, it's the scale that sets it apart and your impact on the large scale. While PS2's open world has not much more meaning to it other than 'shoot dudes' at least it's not tacked on like Firefall's.

I do agree the opening thing where you're shoved into a fight without choice is retarded and pointless, but if you choose to respawn over and over on somewhere getting camped then that is MOST CERTAINLY your fault and your inability to adjust to a position being overwhelmed. The map is huge and filled with spawn points for a reason, if you want to constantly spawn in exactly the same place then do it at the warp gate.

I dislike it because it feels like something I wouldn't enjoy but then again it's the same feeling I got when I found out I hated the entire ME series, First Deus Ex, First few Elder Scrolls, most MMO's etc.

Get a microphone and join PS2's version of a guild, called an outfit, as soon as possible. Coordinated game play is where it's at. Lone running and gunning is fun for the first few hours, until the novelty of huge battles wear off. You'll get more things done in an outfit, and it's the lack of progression you'll suffer as a loner that makes the game boring very quickly.

Yes, play the horribly OP faction.

OT: I'm sorry but when your qualifying statement is "Its like battlefield 2" its hard to take you seriously.
At any rate, its an MMO, so expecting to be shot into a battle and not have people with you or not understand team work is a bad idea.

Also I have a funny feeling that you missed the scale, thats the big thing. Its a three continent hoedown with lasers and railguns with hundreds of players in battles. Not 32.

No, you're not the only one. I am not that fond of it either.

Don't get me wrong, I'm usually a big fan of these types of games. "Battlefield"-esque, big-open combat arenas filled with objectives and populated by many players fighting on foot and in vehicles. I'm also a fan of the epic sci-fi-space themes and designs.

However, I've been playing games like this for years. Not quite on this scale, of course, but still very, very similar. Because of this, I think I'm just burned out on them.

This is not to say Planetside 2 is a bad game, per se (though it's horribly unoptimized and plagued by some bad design choices), but it's just not something that, by itself, excites me anymore.

Played beta, was fun. Played release, had fun. Roll with a squad/outfit. Best moments there.

Also i actually like how they gave you a voiceover and just dropped you.
