Nobody gives a shit about Darwin, Einstein, The Beatles, or Andy Warhol because they were white...people give a shit about them because they're important.
But you could argue that if a black scientist were to discover relativity or make huge strides in the theory of evolution, they wouldn't be recognized nearly as ubiquitously as white scientists are. It's like saying All of those examples are rich, well-educated people who grew up in societies that favored their race heavily (with the exception of Einstein kinda because he was Jewish).

Look, everyone complaining about BHM seems to be forgetting the basic facts, mainly, that African-Americans have made a huge impact on this country's history and that their achievements have been almost universally ignored in today's American school system. A lot of you don't seem to be from America, but I grew up in Idaho, one of the most conservative, bat-shit racist states in the country and if it weren't for BHM a lot of kids wouldn't know a single thing about Frederick Douglass, George Washington Carver, and all those 'classic' examples as well as more modern ones like Molefi Asante, Amiri Baraka, Toni Morrison, etc.

BHM is just an imperfect solution to that problem. Obviously Native-American/Asian/Hispanic history is important and no one is arguing that blacks deserve ontologically more recognition due to their blackness or something. It's just a step in the right direction, trying to respect and acknowledge a group of people who have been systematically ignored and marginalized.

What about George Washington Carver? I don't know anyone who doesn't know who he was, and he as black in a time when that was considered a sin against nature or something.

Personally I believe that things like that only serve to a purpose. Keep the hate alive. It is not wrong to remember, it is wrong however to try to transfer guilt to the new generations, which were not involved in what happened.

I'm a black American, and I don't think Black History Month is a good idea. Why can't it just be, you know, history?

What? He's talking about how he doesn't like Black History Month, not how there should be more emphasis on Black History Month.

That's funny. I always viewed it as being a dumb thing because of how we get 1 month. It shouldn't even be like that. History of all kinds should be celebrated throughout the year.

People here know him as the peanut guy pretty much. You'd be so surprised about the anti-black prejudice throughout the entire United States, not just shit-stains like Idaho. If fact, I had a teacher once say in class about him that "he was known mostly for inventing peanut butter" and then laughed with this "silly negroes!" chuckle. Never mind that he's basically considered the black Leonardo Da Vinci. That's what you get throughout America: White guy stumbles on penicillin and he's the next Jesus Christ on a bicycle, black guy basically reinvents the entirety of American agriculture and food science and he's mostly remembered for making peanut butter.

But I do love peanut butter so what the hell.

I'm pretty sure it isn't something we do in the UK because calling someone 'black' is, I believe, is deemed politically incorrect.
I'm curious to know what you think is the politically correct term? I'm also from the UK, and I've never heard of it being un-PC.
I think he means;

He's a black guy (PC)
He's a black (not PC)

There should never have been a month or day signified for a race. Black, White, Yellow, Red, It does not matter because we are all human. I realise that African-Americans had a troubled past, but until we see eachother as humans instead of the skin we wear, there will always be trouble!

And that is why I disapprove of Black History Month, or any other event signified specifically for any other race or ethnicity.

Isnt this just revers racism? I often find black people more racist than white people. Lets say I call a black guy for "Black boy" that would often (in some circles) be considered racist, but a black guy calling me "White boy".... nothing. It seems that black people can't be racist. Apparently it's ok for black people to call white people biggots and slavers without no one seing it as racist. Rant finished.
Personally I have never heard of Black History month before, but then again, I come from Denmark. I don't have to feel bad for anything, no one in my family have had anything to do with black slaves, but even if they had, I still wouldnt feel sorry. If Hitlers family had been carried on (did it actually?), would you hate Hitlers grand children for something they had nothing to do with?

I'll assume that you're mostly illiterate, based on the apparent fact that you can't read. Allow me to copy/paste the section for your reading pleasure. You know, if you can actually read.

I always thought it was just an extreme way of patronizing African Americans, so I never really paid attention to it.

Morgan Freeman agrees with you:
I personally don't like or dislike it. I don't think the events should be forgotten, but I don't think they should be dwelled upon either.

I didn't like it in elementary school and the beginning of high school because the forced us to do annoying assignments on the same stuff year after year, and quite frankly it was boring. Now I don't even notice it, with the exception if a commercial comes up on the off chance I'm watching tv. That being said, I don't like the idea of enforcing that there is still some kind of special difference between blacks and white through black history month, but I don't really care. Let them have a month, god knows its not like you could take it away now without sparking a revolt. Mainly I just hate it when young black kids throw the race card around like nothing. "Oh you don't like X music or muscian? Why, are you racist?""Why are you taking my cellphone away when I'm talking on it in class? Is it cause I'm black?" That kinda bullshit really pisses me off.

I've known of some people who have been very OTT on political correctness and stated that using the word goes against it.

Personally I don't think it is myself.

I agree wholeheartedly, Black History Month should no longer exist and should be replaced with something like 'Foreign Culture Month' which would be a month dedicated to finding out things about other cultures and creeds that you otherwise would not.
I endorse this product or event!
all im sayin is....Italian history month...we all would gain a little weight. And I don't know of that many people who would complain. lol.

Never had anything like that over here, it's a bad idea though. The only way to get rid of ignorance on cultural differences is too stop talking about them

Tip for Life: You're never the only person.

EDIT: (To add some sort of content to my post) I agree, Black History month is basically reverse racism. It, from what I've seen, does more harm than good.
Tip for Life: Hyperbole is a perfectly acceptable use of the English language and you should really stop being so literal.

And no, OP. You aren't alone. Morgan Freeman doesn't like it, either.

Now, I normally hate "/thread", but...Come on. It's Morgan fucking Freeman. [/thread]

Fun fact: everyone's been a slave somewhere in their history, especially with how popular it was in ancient times.
