Am I the only person who kind of hates Valve?

They're okay. They could be better when it comes to consoles but I can't complain too much as they are more used to making PC games and sometimes it's best to stick to what you know.

Valve isn't my favourite dev by a long shot.

They take forever to release games, and while those games are usually of a very good quality, they don't rank high up on my list.

They are, however, the most honest devs around and give all their DLC away for free (not including hats and other optional aesthetic choices).

I have yet to be fed any kind of bullshit from Valve, they have always been very honest about the way they do things, and for that they have my respect.
Yeah, I agree with this sentiment. I like them as developers, I just don't like their games. All the Half Lifes are mediocre to me. TF2? Mediocre. L4D 1 and 2? Mediocre. 1 and 2? The word I'd use begins with M and ends with -ediocre. I just don't like their games.

I don't hate Valve. I do, however, quite dislike their ravenous cultish fanbase that believes everything they do is amazing, perfect and beyond reproach.
Yeah, it's almost as if fans of Valve games behave like....fans, or something.

"A free pass"-You're joking right? If you do good things and bad things, you're judged on the balance. If you only see negatives, then you are the one not seeing things.

I can't think of any Dev that's perfect. I just don't get mad about it.

Dude, they're a PC developer, no one cares that THEY don't care about consoles.

Also, you're never the only one.

I hate Valve. A lot.

Pros:
-L4D is really awesome

Cons:
-Releases half-assed console ports and don't bother patching them
-Steam is bloated
-Making micro transactions more popular
-Insanely defensive fanboys. This isn't a fault of Valve, but if I mentioned anything slightly bad about them or PC gaming, I'll get devoured alive
-Taking forever to release games. I understand it takes time to make games, but isn't the point of episodic gaming making several smaller games that cost less in less time?
You realise that Valve never actually promised an "Episode 3"?

They promised "Episodes" and to "complete the trilogy".

People who can't count assume "trilogy" means "Episode 3" in the same sense that innumerate fools think that the 17th century is the 1700's and that the new millennia began in 2000 rather than 2001.

Here, let me explain. A Trilogy is of three parts:

(1) Half Life 2
(2) HL2: Episode 1
(3) HL2: Episode 2

And the "Half Life 2 Trilogy" is very much wrapped by the end of Episode 2. Just like all the loose ends are tied up with Half Life 1, all the events at Black Mesa are OVER. All the events to do with City 17 are OVER. They are going to a completely different location.

Also it follows the trend of Half Life 1 which had only two "episodes" of Opposing Force and Blue Shift.

I predict we will NEVER see an episode 3, but the next Half Life iteration will be Half Life 3.

Uhh, what the hell are you playing their games on console for? It has been said over and over again that PC is THE BEST platform, for their games especially.

They are so respected as developers because THEY DO NOT compromise their game design to pander to the frankly inferior - in every way - console platform. Are you serious about gaming? Because if you are, why are you gaming on casual platform?

Seriously, get into PC gaming. Stop making excuses. It's like saying Naughty Dog is a crap developer because they won't release their game on PC. Nope.avi just get a PS3. If you like Valve games get into PC gaming. Simple as.

Valve have their hand forced, they want to release map packs for free but they can't. They can do that on PC. Don't blame THEM for the shitty platform you chose to play on. The type of games they make are COMPLETELY UNSUITED to consoles, fundamentally. Yes they can "work" on consoles but it's not playing to their advantage.

Oh god, buying console version of Valve games GRAUUUGHHHH MY BRAIN!! WHY!? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!!!?!!! WHYYYYYY!!!

Personal Message me your PC stats and I'll let you know what you have to do to get into PC gaming. Christmas is coming.

(You are using a PC RIGHT NOW, don't make excuses)
I'm a PC gamer, and the snobbery in your post is unbelievable. Please stop giving us a bad name.

Anyway. I love Valve for the Half-Life series, Portal series, Steam, and their excellent business model. I'm definitely not a fan-boy (disliked Left4Dead games and Counterstrike Source, could see why Team Fortress 2 is popular but personally didn't like it, and not interested in CS:GO or DOTA). But it's really quite hard to fault them with objective points, and I've seen very few people manage it.

I can't really argue about their console releases because I haven't played them, and I, like most Valve fans, don't personally give a shit about their console releases. But if they suck, then they suck, and I'm sorry to hear that. All I can say is its definitely no indication of their quality when it comes to the PC. Also, the source engine will play on even a really old system, so most of you console gamers could probably run Valve game on your laptops or PCs if you give it a go. If its not an option then all I can say is its a shame you're stuck with an inferior version of their games, but their singleplayer experiences are genuinely some of the best around.

You're never the only one, Valve has made many contributions to the gaming industry to earn people's respect, you are never the only one, you are entitled to your opinion, you are never the only one, this thread will devolve into flaming in approximately three posts by my estimate, YOU ARE NEVER THE ONLY ONE.
/thread
All these sorts of posts don't help at all. Why don't YOU figure out that its an expression and no one ever actually thinks they are the only one. They are essentially saying "Wow, it seems like I'm in a minority here".

Anyways, valve has made quite a few games that I enjoy, and therefore they earned my respect and like. I've played all valve games on the pc, because I find them more enjoyable on the pc than a console. They also do not make empty promises. They do their best to give honest answers for questions. I don't mind waiting however long it takes them to release a game, because the longer we wait, the better the chances are of us getting a better product in the end.

Who in their right mind plays Valve games on a console anyways? Valve are first and foremost PC developers, consoles take second place.

Playing valve on console is sort of like eating a five-star meal on a paper plate in the bathroom... you miss some of the experience

Yep, you're the only one.

I mean they make great games and they love the community and we love them back. Except you.

This may sound kind of backwards, and it is, but while I like their games, as developers they wouldn't be in my Top 5.

This is mostly because they just don't seem to know how to make a console game if their lives depended on it. Sure Valve's PC releases are great and all (Although I know quite a few people that say TF2 is a pile of shit now), but their (they're?) console release record is pretty damn spotty.

Yes, I know, Microsofts update/DLC policies are kind of shit. But when you can't even get a map pack out, that's pretty sad. What really annoys me is that for years they've been pointing the finger at Microsoft (And Sony) going "It's not us! It's them! They won't let us!" whilst other, more competent developers are able to get out a ton of DLC with little fuss. I mean, they announced the next bit of DLC for L4D2 around January. And it's not like they're building entirely new maps, they're just porting some old L4D1 maps. Any other developer could have knocked that out in a few short months. How is it other developers like Bethesda and Gearbox and even Infinity Ward/Treyarch are dependent enough to get out a good amount of DLC and updates for their games yet Valve can only get out, what? 2 bits of DLC for L4D2? Over almost two years? Both using the exact same last map to boot!

I've tried to criticism Valve in the past and am usually met with a tidal wave of hate because "They made Steam!" or "They made Half-Life/TF2/Portal!" Everybody seems to give them a free pass and I just find it shameful.
Meh. I don't hold stuff like TF2's console version against Valve, mostly because...well, I really don't think it should have been on consoles in the first place. I can (and will) fault Microsoft for their bizarre update/DLC policies, but I can also fault Valve for releasing a product that they knew would be crippled by those same policies.

Besides, it's possible that Valve has a gypsy curse for this, too. They already seem cursed to be unable to make a game with a higher numerical designation than '2,' so maybe they have something about defiling great work for the sake of pointing fingers.

So many "You're never the only one" posts on page 1 o_o

Guys it's not meant like that...

Anyway, I just wanted to say that, but it does annoy me that we console players never get any of the privileges that PC gamers do.
