Gonna have to chip in here: my 5770HD is fucking sweet. I can run Supreme Commander 2 on full graphics on one screen, and Dead Space (1) on full graphics on the other and not get any lag or drop in framerate.Goody said:Haven't got them, but everything i've tried up to now the worst I get is 40 fps, it may be due to my processor aswell, got a AMD Phenom II X4 965 (quad core 3.4ghz) that may be taking over some of the work, tried Crysis(>40), Bad Company 2(>40), new Medal of Honour(=60). Not that fussed on DA2 anyway after trying the demo, but would like to try the others when I can.ph0b0s123 said:No, you can't.... I don't believe for a second you can run metro 2033, stalker or DA 2 at max settings and get anywhere decent frame rates. That's why I got one, and thanks for helping prove my point with the rest of your post that I snipped out.UberMore said:The 5770 is boss, with great output for great value.

Nvidia and AMD are getting nervous- graphics on the PC are plateauing, and people are moving over to consoles, depriving them of a big money milker. So they just treat every card as if it's revolutionary, despite no real person being able to notice or care about any difference.
PS: Who the fuck does SLI or that Crossfire thing, anyway? Why would you need 2 cards, unless your monitor was the size of a shed?
Really the current AMD/ATI is pretty crap compared to the nvidia range if said that statement 9 months I would have agreed but things have changed with the 6000 vs gtx 500 series. Also would like a 6990 there so loud and hot the gtx 590 is much quite and cooler even if it is slower.Bretty said:Agreed, AMD has been ahead in the hardware game for a few years now. Hopefully this will make Nvidia think twice before it feeds its fanbase with more lies but then again if consumers eat up one slogan they are likely to eat up them all.
Give it 2 years and intel will buy Nvidia's gpu line once they successfully hit rock bottom, Mark my words dont believe just watch their share ticker. There basic company is not built to take the hard hit from AMD. Just look at BFG cards per example. Nvidia aims at making the same if not increasing profit every year fooling even themselfs that there product line is better then the competion.
mehh fun anyway nice to see rivaly again aye.
I am looking forward to their Mobo/GPU products
That's fair enough. But then the 'every single game' in your post should have read 'every single game I've tried', otherwise it is misleading. Metro 2033 is the new 'can it play Crysis?' standard. Was hoping Crysis 2 would be the new Crysis standard, but that's another discussion.Goody said:Haven't got them, but everything i've tried up to now the worst I get is 40 fps, it may be due to my processor aswell, got a AMD Phenom II X4 965 (quad core 3.4ghz) that may be taking over some of the work, tried Crysis(>40), Bad Company 2(>40), new Medal of Honour(=60). Well its true That you'll likely get more tail with a souped up car then a souped up PC, but there are two downsides to it.Grey Carter said:*raises hand*CosmicCommander said:Better question- who is willing to pay £500 for some tech that only marginally performs better (in real terms) over it's apparently "outdated" predecessors?

Everytime you click on a Critical Miss strip you're adding pennies to my "Ridiculous fucking graphics card" fund.
Some people, me included, are simply enthusiasts, we like maintaining and upgrading our PC's. It's similar to people souping up their cars really, negligible benefits outside of it being another way to spend your time and money.
That being said, my slick neons and beastly megahalem overclock has never, and will never, get me laid. Which makes it slightly less useful than souping up a car.
As for Crossfire/sli they used to be a shining example of "HAHA LOOK HOW RICH I AM!" but as of late two mid-range crossfire cards are outpeforming the fuck out of the higher end cards.

One, a high end PC will cost you usually a couple hundred to maybe a couple thousand dollars, where a car could cost you tens of thousands.
Secondly, you'll likely get more then 15 minutes worth (or 5 seconds...) worth of entertainment.
These cards are made for people are either using Eyefinity or Nvidia surround and trust me, no single cards manages to run Nvidia surround (Havent tried Eyefinity but since its pretty much the same thing) in high settings on any game and with Nvidia you cant even run Nvidia surround with a single card unless its has two GPUs.veloper said:Pointless contest. Who buys such a card anyway?
Best bang/buck in the upper mainstream and the cheapest high end ranges is the only thing that matters.
Recent games will run fast on high detail on high end cards from 2 generations back and mainstream cards of this gen.
Sorry meant Call of Pripyat. Also Just Cause can be added to that list. But I agree for most PC games now you can get away with a mid range card, no argument there. My only point was that you cannot run every game out there at 1080p with every setting on full and a decent FPS with your card, as the first poster I responded to was saying. That's all, there still GPU crushing games out their. Just not very many any more. So Nvidia and AMD still have some games that need these high end cards. But it is a decreasing market without the compute apps that were supposed to be coming to the consumer space to keep this market going.UberMore said:Gonna have to chip in here: my 5770HD is fucking sweet. I can run Crysis with everything on full, with the only drop coming from modded-speed+motion blur.
And Stalker on full? I could do that on my old 9800GT.
I know I'm going to sound retarded asking, but what is DA2? I probably know, I'm just very tired.
Also, I can run BC2 on full graphics no problem, DX11 AvP full graphics no problem and I can watch a full-screen 1080p movie AND play DoW2:Retribution with full graphics and not get any framerate drop.
EDIT: Oh yeah, Dragon Age 2. That game looks like horseshit, comparatively. I wouldn't be surprised if I could run that with 2 instances going and have it on full.
Also, I can run GTAIV on full (bar shadow quality) without any framerate issues.
The 5770 is boss, with great output for great value.

Im really sorry but that is complete bull. My friend got a 5770 and I had to overclock it so he could play wow on highest.Goody said:My 5770 can run every single game at max settings on 1080p (1920x1080, 60hz, progressive scan) with 4x AA and 8X anisotrpic filtering, admittedly I have to push the fan speed up when I go on a game, but it does it none the less.
Im sorry but Pci express at x8 is not bottlenecking anything. The difference from running two gtx 580 in sli with x8 x8 and x16 x16 is about 1-2% which I wouldnt call bottleneck.Wolfram01 said:Threads like these are fun with console lovers who never bothered to research PC hardware start to spout shit about who needs it, no point, etc. (Not saying that's everyone who likes consoles, but there's already a few posts like that)
There's a few reasons for cards like this. For example, some people want to play on huge screens. I'm not talking about a 40" 1080p HDTV, because the image quality on that is far worse than a 24" 1080p monitor (read: pixel density). Just the other day I saw an amazing PC this guy is building. 4 GTX 580s in quad SLI, to power 3 30" 2560x1600 screens. Granted, he claimed to already have spent over $11000 on it (including a $1500 CPU) and I think it's excessive, but, that's the kind of person who wants these cards.
Also, the point of a dual GPU card, as opposed to the cheaper and faster option of doing, for example, two 6970s or two 580s, is twofold (although related). PCIe has bandwidth. 16 lanes of bandwidth being the highest. For a lot of people, when you put 2 cards in SLI/CF you wind up with them each getting only 8 lanes of bandwidth (the i5 760's P55 chipset does this, as do most of the new Sandy Bridge i5 2600 P67 chipsets). 8 lanes will bottleneck the top end cards like 6970, 570, 580 etc. So it's possible that a dual gpu card on a single 16x lane is faster than two cards on 8x lanes. Then there's quadfire/quad SLI. You may not have 4 PCIe slots at 8x/8x/8x/8x - or if you do, again, you could just use two lanes at 16x/16x. So like before, the single card using more bandwidth can maybe be faster than more cards at lower bandwidth. And with certain $300 P67 motherboards, they do actually allow 16x/16x thanks to the NF200 chip, so there's another place that the two dual gpu cards can reign supreme.

Usually, they release one after the other so that the best card is the newest lineup from whatever company, E.g. AMD brings out new top-line card, it's fastest, nVidia brings out new top-line card, it's fastest etc etc.. but the nVidia card is actually the newest one, yet it's slower than the older AMD card, hence being called out on it.poiumty said:Not for long. What makes it worse is that it alos means that AMD is next to bring out a new line of cards, meaning that they've been top for a while.

I know that my new AMD graphics card is a far superior model to my old 9800GT, but not once have I had an error with crashing, or an update going wrong (which was from the very first with nVidia).
I...I'm sorry nVidia, but unless you can turn yourself around this time, I'm going to have to truly let you go and fully embrace the glory of AMD...
Now, now go! Before I cry anymore!
