Well, they haven't been invaded in 300 years, give or take.

Britian hasn't been invaded since 1066.

New kids on the block actually think people want to invade them.
Looks like someone doesn't know their American history. Not that I blame you or anything, most Americans have no sense of history and don't know their own history either.
That's why I said 'give or take'.

Granted, that's no excuse for not knowing exact dates.
300 years isn't even close. Mainland USA hasn't been invaded in almost exactly 200 years, but as one of the above posters said, some of the islands that the US owns were invaded during World War 2.

Resistance: Fall of man.

Freedom Fighters.
Fallout.
A few command and conquer games.

I don't think it's really 'cliche'. I mean, there are only so many places you can fight a war on Earth.
OK, does Fallout really count? EVERYWHERE was attacked, not just America. Same goes for the Resistance series. Also, Fall of Man took place in Britain, you never set foot on American soil. This list is a failure.

Although I somewhat paradoxically agree with your opinion.

Give or take a few centuries.

See were I'm going with this?

A couple of centuries is a lot in American history. Not so much in Europe.

It's TURNING into a cliche, certainly. What was surprising about MW2 is that it was essentially the Cold War gone hot, and it was pretty f-ed up. It's also kind of what Turning Point was like, the what if of history that doesn't really exist. I bet a lot of people get a kick out of it due to the fact the US has never been invaded in their home territory in a modern war (say, after the civil war). Homefront is I think the only one that TRIED to get to the player, and actually just managed to make a bit too much pr for an otherwise generic shooter.

It's a good job I'm not at school then :D

What I'm trying to get at, is that America is a young country, and because it's young, it's going through that phase, much like a child, where it thinks everybody is after their stuff.

Give it 500 more years and it will have probably grown out of it by then.

First you 'give or take' 30% of your initial estimate, then insult your entire continent by claiming significant historical progress takes on the order of hundreds of years. I'm certain your ISP doesn't block Wikipedia, man.

When did I claim that significant development takes hundreds of years?

I was pointing out that, with a thousands of years of history, 300 years is a drop in the bucket. I never cliamed nothing important happened in those 300 years.

It will only be a cliche until China finally invades and enslaves the U.S.A.

My main problem is the rather weak defense for a silly mistake that doesn't have anything to do with the point you were trying to make, anyway. Just own it and move on. :)

If having an empire has taught me one thing, it's that I don't have to admit when I'm wrong :D

Yes. As an American, I'm sick and tired of America being the target for every single fucking thing. I understand having some American traits from games made my American developers, but have variety, you guys. This is why everyone hates us.

Does the American game industry just dominate everyplace else?

I do find it to be becoming a cliche, and I wish everyone would catch on that, while defending the homeland is fun and all, virtually attacking everyone else can be even more fun.

Funny enough as WWII is being referred to, I read one of my friends on Facebook comment:

Just think. If this happened, WWII mightn't of happened, or had less of an effect. Where would games take place then?

Greenland. Boom. Now lets make it happen. lol

But yeah where else can game wars actually take place?
There is just really the US, Russia, japan, and the Middle east. Not many other places have battles in videogames...

I think that America invading is the bigger cliche, but invading America seems to be gathering speed.
Is it just me or is Canada the only place that hasn't been attacked? It was annexed in Fallout, but that's really it it seems.

Um, yes, fallout counts, as the Chinese invaded Alaska conventionally and there was a playable section of this in Fallout 3 Operation: Anchorage.

So because one article on the list is questionable because the game took place in Britain (though America was still invaded) the entire list is a failure?

Please.
