I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about here. Slaves to society? Is English your first language?n00beffect said:Yeah, it is true that most of the shitty stuff we watch on TV are actually American. You know, all the mass productions and everything, based solemnly on the idea of consumerism. I am glad you admited that most of you are slaves to society and mind you not just regular slaves to society, but your entire country is built upon the foundation of Supply&Demand. I don't know why you're so proud of that, actually. It boggles me to no extent. But yeah, in terms of lame entertainment you guys trash us in every possible way. Unfortunately for you though, our entertainment is not based entirely on your sitcoms, or whatever. We have an entire history, we have classics and things like that and though Europe is becoming more like America recently, with all the consumarism everywhere, we still have people who appreciate real things such as art for example. We have a great history and museums that strive upon Europe's greatness and struggle to sustain itself. So basically, what you Americans are proud of is that you've brought upon the world the word CONSUMER and that your entire economy depends on you being consumers, is that it? While Europe manages to do so(or has managed to do so until recently) without the need to enslave it's own people to being, how should I put it... "9 to 5"ers?
The economies of most countries are based on Supply and Demand. A significant portion of Europe's countries were not based this and instead on other ideas but these collapsed in 1989 and 1991. If your economies somehow eschew these ideas what is your economy based upon? Are you suggesting that Europeans don't "consume" goods? I'm not really sure what you are getting at.
As far as I know Supply and Demand are concepts invented by Adam Smith and David Riccardo( both British I think) and are employed by most European countries.
Tell me, what is so great about European culture and history compared to American or even other old world cultures like Middle Eastern and Chinese? After all, European civilization is derived from Ancient Mesopotamian. They developed concepts such as writing, masonry, alphabet, coinage, and possibly wheels. If we Americans are to owe a debt of gratitude to someone why not just skip to the Europeans all together and thank Iraqis, Egyptians, and Turks?
Actually the Middle East is a good example. They are obsessed with their past achievements and culture and this constant nostalgia hasn't done them much good. Perhaps you should take a good hard look at places like Iraq and Iran. If you keep looking backwards and praising your ancestors instead of looking forward Iraq and Iran might just be your future.
Finally, I still don't know what you are talking when you say, "without the need to enslave it's own people to being, how should I put it... "9 to 5"ers?" I know unemployment is higher in Europe then the US but presumably some Europeans still have jobs right?
