I cannot believe people read past the first sentence and responded to such blatant trolling.

Eh Hem, TV shows? Really? Why not comedians? Try Patton Oswalt, David Cross, Demetri Martin or something.
As for TV, try Community, Whitest Kids U Know, or Mr.Show With Bob And David(old show but good.)
Also all the shows you brought up sucked. But chances are if you can stand a laugh track you could watch Mr.Show, because its a really good sketch show. WKUK is a sketch show too (without a laugh track), and Community is a narrative with no laugh track and if you hate Big Bang Theory you'll most likely love Community.
Venture Bros is great too.
EDIT: Fuckin' Troll! Why would you make generalizations off of crap. Everything is terrible if you think of it that way, because-
FACT-The majority of everything sucks.
How many good next series renewed shows are out there? The IT Crowd and almost nothing else.

So you judge comedy on what landmass it originates from? I thought we had to judge on...well, comedy.

It seems to me that the real argument here is against alot of American sitcoms. America does pump out alot of quick and easy sitcoms to satisfy programming schedules, but that's the case over here in Aus as well. That doesn't mean that we don't ever put out genuinely great ones, or that the quality of all stand-up, comedic novels, movies, comedic blogs suffers along-side it.

Really you might as well just retitle the thread "I don't like mediocre sitcoms" and call it a day, and I guess if you're starving to hear something funny said in American accents then I'unno, listen to Red Bar Radio or something.

Also: Could someone PLEASE tell me how Red Dwarf is funny? I saw the first episode, and only finished it because one of my friends was enjoying it. I found the entire premise completely boring. Oh look, some idiot wanted to take a cat to Earth and retire in New Zealand, but then he was frozen for 2 million years and the cat became what is quite possibly the single most annoying character without being Peter Griffin.
Actually it's Fiji, and are you forgetting the other two characters as well? Hell, Cat's not even that prominent in most of the episodes.

I know it's not for everyone, but I think if you give it a good shot (the first episode mostly sets the scene, I think from season 2 onwards-and especially 3, with Kryten-it's a great show) then you might enjoy it. If not, eh, you gave it your best shot.

It looks like a lot of people are misunderstanding the threads original point. He didn't say American comedy is bad, he said it's unintelligent.
To a point I have to agree, a lot of the comedy I see is very stupid. I don't mind it being stupid, I still think it's funny, but w/e floats your boat.

But then again I very rarely watch television, so I've seen a very small portion of comedy in general; however, it seems silly to assume that there are no intelligent American comedies. I'm sure you've seen only a small portion of what's out there as well(unless you spend like 15 hours a day watching TV).

I disagree, I love American humour, even if they do spell it wrong. The Big Bang theory, How I met Your Mother, Friends, Simpsons, Family Guy ect ect

And hell, Britain produces enough total crap to make any statement that we're superior totally incorrect. (The new My Family is really bad, crap like Life of Riley or In with the Flyns, and I'm also looking at you, any work by Ricky Gervais or Russel Brand)

I think you're probably just biased towards your own nation, hence the reason you've phrased an improvable opinion as fact.

Meh. Every country has it's good comedy and it's bad comedy. I'm from Australia and we often get people saying "Australian comedy is childish", but that's because crap like Hey Hey it's Saturday and The Wedge got aired on the main channels during primetime and with lots of advertising, while genuinely clever and funny stuff like Shaun Micallef's old shows...

...didn't get any recognition at all.
thankfully we got Chris liley, weather or not you think he's a genious/just mildly funny/ or just stupid I think he's awsome and his charachters are often dead-on (his best being Jonah and Ja'mie)

even the skit show he originated on (big bite) wasnt too bad, there was also comedy inc which was ok

Kath and Kim were good, untill they went comercial (I think by then it just jumped the shark)

and even less known is "all ausie adventures with russel coight" the guy from kath and kim, was pretty funny (it was a parody of outback/survival shows)

Australian dramas on the other hands......ughh they are the worst, particually rescue special ops and sea patrol TERRIBLY written

Winners and Losers is actually pretty good (decently written, likable charachters and such)

while I do more or less agree with you, I think "my family" was a british show that was actually written in the "American" style or so I read

anyway Im Australian and if I were to generalise things Id always prefer britich comedy over American comedy, not that one doesnt have crap and the other only does, thats just in general

in fact the only American sitcom I ever found geniunly funny was hwo I met your mother (though I have herd its always sunny in philidelphia is pretty good)

You know what's worse? Generalizations based on two widely hated shows (of the same shitty genre). Try harder.

In the mean time, I'll be watching Arrested Development, Monty Python, and the Chasers War on Everything, not giving a single fuck what country any of them came from. Because that's silly.
100% of the aforementioned shows are certified awesome :D

Other people like American humor. It's called an opinion. You're not right, and neither are they.
My point is that the jokes involved are less intelligent than those in British shows. Go watch Peep Show. That is genius. Compare it to any widely viewed American comedy show. I'm not arguing which is subjectively better, I'm arguing that British comedy is more intelligent. Please read my post and understand it before replying.
I understand what you mean and do agree with you, though I still find America humour funny as the unintelligent humour can be funny if used in the right way, such as Whose Line Is It Anyway?.
Interesting example, given that its based off a British show, but the American version's better, so I guess it counts.

OT: Come on. You can't make blanket statements like. Humor is far too subjective to say one type is better than another (besides maybe Tyler Perry humor, that's just crap).

Oh, and you spelled humor wrong[footnote]Sorry, couldn't help myself.[/footnote].
Wow I completely forgot that was originally Britsh, thanks for the reminder

Try The Daily Show for American humour and satire done well.
I like the Daily Show, but Jon Stewart seems to resent the majority of Americans.

~sarcasm mode engage~ Yes, because shows like the Inbetweeners have such high brow humor. ~end sarcasm mode~ Seriously, try not to make generalizations off of a couple of shows. A lot of people here find South Park and Family Guy to be incredibly vulgar. And as for the Big Bang theory, is it possible that you don't understand some of the humor? The references to anything from obscure science experiments from the fifties to modern pop culture are many and close together. They're fairly easy to miss.

Thank you!!!! I am not a fan of comedy in any way shape or form, I'll occasionally watch Family Guy because of Stewie and Brian but people always try and show me different things that they say are hilarious (Arrested Development and Office Space (movie not show)) and I've hated almost all of them.

So in a round-about way, you just insulted my sense of humor. Apparently, my sense of humor isn't as great as yours is because I'm from the States. So if I came up with a joke, and you came up with a joke, mine wouldn't be as good as yours. That makes perfect sense. That isn't a stupid idea at all.

That offends me on a FAR more personal level than it should.
