You kidding, I would say they are more obsessed than the US, they just hide it. they have guns and artillery hidden all over, and if I remember correctly, all the tunnels and passes are rigged to blow in the case of invasion. That said, its a pretty cool place.

I would either go to Japan because I find the culture interesting and they get games first, though I would need to learn Japanese, or Ireland because I am mostly Irish. Australia gets third because they speak English and I think it would be a really fun place to be.

I'd live in Italy. Probably Rome if I could afford it, although the Umbrian countryside would be great too. I swear that country has the most beautiful things :( Sad I can't go back this year.

England - Friends there, common language, and great schools.
You're kidding right? Our education system is in tatters right now.
My school can't afford shit :p

But I guess as schools go these days they're ok.

I would probably choose Sweden. I'm actually thinking about moving there once my time in the service is done. Its cold, which I enjoy, and all of my friends who have visited said that Sweden was the best country they visited. Really friendly people, nothing too preposterous there, but I suppose I will find out for myself when I visit soon.
Just dont go to Rosengård, it isnt really part of Sweden anymore

Australia because they speak English and have a mild climate. I'd find a sexy Australian man to protect me from all creepy crawlies. Or Italy, I speak rudimentary Italian and wouldn't mind living in Milan or Rome as long as I can visit Sicily for the summer.

Austrailia. If Yahtzee's right, and it's really so much better than America, then that'd be my first choice.

Italy or France, partially because I have friends and family in both, but also because I could finally get some good food

Israel.

That is a country that has its shit together. If I have to serve in the military to become an Israeli citizen, I'll do it.

Granted, I'll probably be involved in a major war at some point because every single country in that region wants to destroy Israel and burn all its people, but it's okay, because Israel will win.

Probably.
I agree they would win again, but at what cost to the civilian population? I knew someone who emigrated from the US to Israel and lived there during the near daily rocket attacks from Hamas and Hezbollah back during 2004-2006 (or something like that). Even though only a few dozen civilians were killed, he said the fear and disruption to daily life was considerable. I'd rather not live somewhere where I have a potential to die in armed conflict.
You definitely have a point, but you have to consider that the only reason I'd leave the US forever (and not go to a country without an extradition treaty with the US) is if the economy collapsed and the country descended into a state of civil war. If things got that bad, I imagine the rest of the developed world would be having major problems as well. Israel seems to have their act together enough so that they would at least be able to maintain coherent government. I could be wrong, though.

I think this thread would have been more interesting if you had to choose some non-english speaking country (so not Canada, Aus or UK) since most of the people are choosing one of those

Definitely Denmark. My girlfriend is from there, so through her I could get over there easily and would get to know everyone pretty well. The standards of living are also awesome, along with the entertainment, music, and cultural scenes.

Failing that, I would head to Canada because it's closest and the culture is almost identical to my area.

Actually, without the US to give it military support, other middle-eastern countries would descend upon Israel like vultures to a corpse.

Right. There would be a long and bloody war, and eventually "Middle-eastern countries" == Israel and no one else. This was part of my original thesis.

Not sure if serious. Every male in Switzerland has to serve in the military reserve, every male in the reserve is issued a Sig 550 assault rifle and 50 rounds of ammunition, and it's not uncommon to see civilians carrying their rifles to the supermarket and stuff.

Switzerland is HIGHLY militarized.
