Spent 2 hours listening to my boyfriend whimpering from across the room when he first started playing >_>

I remember being stuck in a room with one of the monsters and the door was closed.

My solution?

Run around the room in circles while the monster was chasing me, trying to find the perfect opportunity to get to the door and open it. But I ended up doing an about face and running right into the monster. Cue me screaming/swearing as poor Daniel was being murdered.

I do not blame him. Sorround sound + dark room + Amnesia: TDD = Misery.

Good ol' Frictional Games. This is probably the scariest game I have ever had the fortune (or is it misfortune?) of playing. My favorite part was the section with the waterlurker.

The Prison.

Fuck the Prison, seriously.
That entire segment of the game was pure, unadulterated terror and brick shitting for me.

I, unfortunately, wasn't very scared by Amnesia. Not because it isn't scary (it is), but because it isn't MY kind of scary, you know?

Still, I think that allowed me to better appreciate all the other aspects of the game. Seriously, even without the scares Amnesia is one of my favorite games of all time. I need to play through it again sometime.

My only advice as to reduce the scary is to keep in mind that death is practically meaningless in Amnesia. You respawn basically three feet away, most of the times.

Tinderboxes are plentiful and fairly lame for light, use them in places you need to search such as drawers and desks.

Always close the door if you need to pick up a quest item and prep hiding spots.

The monsters can't see well in the dark either, so hiding in a dark corner can save your life if you look away.

That game turned me into an instant fanboy.

Hands down the scariest thing I've ever played. Bricks were shat. Frequently. The prison and the torture chambers stand out in my mind.

Oh yeah, you know how people say that Amnesia doesn't rely on "BOO!" scares? Well, that's true. However, there is one in the game. A good one. It made me fall off my chair.

As for tips, if you have some decent headphones then wear them. The game uses sound a lot.

Well i'm stuck I must confess, its just too scary....

I keep trying to man-up and just get though it but I just have to load it up and hear the music for my resolution to start to waver, then 5 minutes or so it i'm quitting :)

Edit: as for tips there is the universal technique of nerfing scary games but upping the gamma and lowering the sound... but that would be pretty pansy ^^

Do yourself a favour and play it with the lights off and headphones. The entire point of the game is to utterly terrify yourself to the point of being a quivering shell of a human being and you have to allow the game to do that to you.

I gather that most people who aren't scared by the game play it during the day/with the lights on/with the sound off/whilst playing their own music or something equally destructive to the games mood. Their loss.

I'm actually voicing a character in a mod around the game which is pretty exciting in itself but.....yeah I don't switch lights off and...I keep my security blanket nearby...bad Amnesia >.<

Play in the dark, use headphones, crank up the volume and prepare to be scared by the scariest horror game ever made my friend.

There's a custom game option, what's this for? Are people making their own levels and stuff? If so where do I download them.

Does anyone else besides me think the ending(s) were really lame? I mean comon,
Alexander has an army of zombie servants at his disposal but he just sits there waiting for you to destroy his portal? Also both the endings that don't involve using Agrippa's head didn't really make sense because 1. why would Daniel just sit their for the bad ending 2. In the neutral ending, why does Daniel act all smug and wholesome even though he didn't save Agrippa and 3. Also in the neutral ending, the screen going white and the sound of something collapsing made it unclear whether or not Daniel escaped or he died by the castle collapsing on him as he was leaving.
