In Uni I have to do a 3000 word essay explaining the changes to the company over the last ten years by looking internally and externally and blah blah blah.

I can choose any organisation but I think it would make it easier for me if I find a company which has changed drastically. I have thought of a few but nothing major....know of any?

It can be ANY organisation in ANY industry - gaming, tobacoo, drink etc.

Well, the escapist from what I understand...

Could also look at Fox news. They went from a semi-decent news company ten years ago to complete and utter shit in today's times.

I can't help but think that something related to the War On Terror might be a good bet seeing as 09/11 happened 10 years ago.

I suppose Apple is too obvious? Before the iPod they were almost invisible to the average consumer, now it's impossible to walk 10 feet without seeing one of their products.

I would say Intel and Apple are the biggest changes. Intel went from losing the GHz race ten years ago to winning at everything ever. Apple have gone from making sub-par, over-priced, closed down products and almost going under to making sub-par, over-priced, closed down products and being the most highly valued company in history.

Apple and Amazon are both radically different companies today than they were ten years ago.

A lot of tech manufacturing companies have realized that computer hardware is rapidly becoming fungible, and have switched their main business focus over to consulting and "solutions" rather simply making devices. This lets them still position themselves as 'premium' companies that can compete on quality and creativity, while sticking with hardware would force them to compete solely on price. Cisco is a good example of this.

10 years ago, Konica-Minolta was best known for cameras. Now, most people still think of cameras when they hear the name, but they haven't made a camera in years (they sold that division to Sony). They mainly now manufacture office equipment, medical imaging devices and other optic-related hardware, but are also trying to go the 'solution' route mentioned above.

Square Enix

They went from making tons of single player games that were for the most part really well received to present day where they focus on distributing games digitally, online games, using dlc, most games from them are mediocre these days, Square merged with Enix to make Square Enix in that time, they acquired Eidos and Taito, some of the companies choices to put mediocre cheaper methods above the quality of their games have resulted in the CEO receiving death threats (Final Fantasy XIII going to 360 in Japan) and the company has lost the love of many fans and receives a lot of criticism today and is no longer seen as capable of outputting high quality games (except for their Eidos branch but, that's not REALLY Square Enix now is it?) They have seen the creator of the Final Fantasy series leave them to form his own company, I also read they have shut down their internal music team (one of the things that Final Fantasy is known for is its music) and despite their efforts to reduce the quality of their products in order to save money and gain more revenue through cheap tricks they continue to see year over year declines in net income and revenue. Many things have changed.

In short, they were once a great company that were capable of making many high quality games but due to their own stupidity (the development team for XIII didn't work together to efficiently develop the game) and their reliance on cheap tricks has seen a rapid decline in reputation and income.

EA? Activision? Companies that have blossomed into publishing giants.

On the non-gaming front, how about the NFL? They've had to change quite a bit over the past 10 years, more focus on player safety, new markets have been explored and integrated, and they're in the middle of a labour dispute right now.

First off, this.

Secondly, and this is off topic so I'll keep it brief, how does putting FF13 on Xbox 360 warrant any hostilities, much less a death threat? That makes no sense whatsoever. Or were they mad over the games' quality?

EDIT: Also, Microsoft. They've gone from producing a lot of software for computers to being an entertainment giant, most especially with their Zune and Xbox.

Nintendo. They've gone from all about good games to all about stupid controllers innovation.
I don't know what the exact reasoning was for the death threats. All I know about it is what I've read in news articles etc.

'After the confirmation that an Xbox 360 port of Final Fantasy XIII would be released in Japan, CEO Yoichi Wada received death threats from angry fans accusing him of being a liar.' from http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XIII#Controversies

It basically just seems like it was because he's a 'liar'.
I personally don't have anything really against the 360 itself. It's just that I've noticed that exclusive PS3 games are usually better technically (Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain etc.) than 360 exclusives or multi platform titles on either console and when it comes to Final Fantasy I just want to see it do the best it can in quality when it comes to development which having to make room for two consoles of varying power doesn't really help it. Although I can understand that back in 2008 the PS3 was doing pretty bad and they were probably worried they couldn't get enough sales on just one platform.

Valve, and how they went from game devs to Steam and BEYOND! Or you can base it on the broadband industry and how it's developed from the humble dial-up connection to Fibre Optic networks and it's impact on both social and business cultures.

What happened to you Mcdonalds you use to be about the obesity

seriously thou

Activision it feels like with COD3 they were like 'WOO we are ROCKSTARS' and then kept making games that weren't up to par with older games
