Sadly they grabbed me with BF3. But, with the Mass Effect series out for at least a while and BF3 still being king they aren't going to get much business from me anymore.
I held out until last week hoping EA would make up with Valve but its not gonna happen before launch. So aside from ME3 DLC, EA doesn't have any franchises I care enough about to put my money into Origin. And I bought hard copies of both ME3 and BF3, so they lost some Origin profits to Gamestop.
As for Origin gaining users, I don't think they will. The interface is awful. I have to deal with it for BF3 and it doesn't even link to the battlelog so it serves no purpose other than to download patches. And when I take a break from BF3, I lock Origin from my system so they can't monitor my computer. When I turn Origin on they might get their info anyway.
I don't think Mass Effect 3 will create many Origin members. It will make Origin get lots of accounts made but that doesn't constitute being a member or even a customer. Its just a crutch that will end up being wasted space on most people's harddrives.
