And the willing suspension bridge of disbelief came crashing down....

That episode of CSI: Miami where a Glock blew up, Russian surplus ammo was supposed to be illegal and still contains gun-powder (despite the fact that it was from the 60's and even cordite was obsolete by then) blows up, bullets could differentiate from the "coldness" of a vest and the "warmth" of a human body.

Spontaneous detonation of smokeless powder is almost impossible in normal temperatures, and they misused the term "flashpoint".

Then a bullet that could go trough a vest because it is cold (like, a warm body and outside temperature? Thermodynamics won't let that vest cool down) and break apart in human bodies (because if the air temperature ever reaches 37º in Miami, you'll have ammo breaking apart).

I raged so much at that episode I haven't seen CSI ever since.

I know some scientific trivia which means that many, MANY games have some things that just bug me. Some even to no end. It doesn't help that I'm studying game design, either. However I can most of the times just let it slide even though I still find it annoying.

Pretty much constantly when watching movies. Seems like the dumbest people are making the biggest blockbusters.

I get slightly annoyed when people in movies fire weapons with endless magazines, or overuse full auto. But I get over it :p
I know exactly what you mean, it's gotten to the point where I will count the shots fired before a character changes mags.

I recently went throught a Doctor Who marathon (all 6 seasons from the 2005 series), just to see what the fuss was all about. Obviously I liked it (I endured 6 seasons in less than a week after all), but, as with any story based on time travel, it can get very stupid very fast. I know it's a fantasy show more than anything, the word "science" could be replaced by "magic" and the sonic screwdriver could be renamed as a magic wand and it would make no diference at all, but even then it's hard for me to suspend my disbelief.
It gets especially bad in the most recent Christmas special in which I'm pretty sure the Doctor breaks all the rules regarding time travel that he has established in the series.

Only thing that makes me sigh is watching action films and seeing people fire off dual handguns.

For 1, handguns are not that accurate to start with but have a slight kick back to them.

And for 2, firing off one in each hand would mean whoever is shooting would hit nothing but the sky.

On top of that they never seem to reload or they have a clip that doesn't need reloading until the shootout is over.
on the button,
I have a vid of me doing just that on Youtube for the laugh(also the guys on the range in Thailand kinda begged me to do it for the giggle)
Glock 17 in my left hand,CZ 92 in my right 34 rounds in about 30 seconds and if I WAS actually trying to hit someone I would have hit everything BUT them...I did hit the car door a few times,
but it was fun for the laugh AND to prove to myself that the "John Woo Stylee" thing really WAS nonsense.

It's happened a lot of times, but one of the most prominent was with the movie Avatar. You expect me to believe that a corporation is so rich and powerful that it can afford: the fuel and resources necessary for a six-year space journey, the equipment and technology to fly people out to a planet at the edge of the galaxy, a private military, a private research center, ammunition for the private military (I didn't see an arms factory, so they'd have to fly that in too), an agricultural center (I assume they didn't wait six years for every food delivery), the salaries for everyone that they employed on the base, and the equipment for a groundbreaking genetics experiment all while making a net profit on this operation of $0 and still be making an overall profit to keep this project going for years. No. Just no.

My roommate was watching Battle: LA. I couldn't get into it and started picking it apart and ruined it for the both of us by the end. That movie was just so stupid I couldn't take it.
Quick question, was it Battle: LA or Battle of LA?

Battle: LA, though judging by imdb, Battle of LA is significantly worse.

The Neverending story...once I read the book, the movies were forever ruined for me.
Why? I've seen the movies (well the first 2 anyway) and read the book and it didn't ruin them for me.
I read the book and loved it up until Bastian's half of the book. I wish a book had been written where Atreyu was the main character throughout.

Let me reword your argument, "things that are not believable or unrealistic are hindering my suspension of disbelief." Now let's look at what the willing suspension of disbelief is defined as, "Suspension of disbelief or "willing suspension of disbelief" is a formula for justifying the use of fantastic or non-realistic elements in literary works of fiction." Do you see the fallacy in this?

You are confusing suspension of disbelief with cognitive estrangement. Cognitive estrangement is, "the effect brought on by the reader's realization that the setting of a text (film, etc.) differs from that of the reader's reality, especially where the difference is based on scientific extrapolation, as opposed to supernatural or fantastic phenomena."

Basically, you are writing off an entire game because some flavor text and calculations are off. Also, as stated there are dozens of ways you can bring this out of cognitive estrangement. Humans have evolved past the level of radiation that is considered lethal to us now. The calculations have changed since radiation is so prevalent in the world of Fallout so its citizens can more accurately gauge the level of radiation poisoning they have. Medications and vaccinations make the people more resistant to radiation poisoning. They are using the metric system.

The fact that this is what is ruining the game for you I also find humorous. Nevermind the fact that radiation poisoning causes hair to fall out, teeth to fall out, rapid weight loss, extreme fatigue, cancer. Your problem lies with the scale of fatal radiation poisoning.

You do know that the book came before the movie, right? Personally I found the book had a much deeper message than the movie(s).

it was based on a novella by Steven King. So I figured that there would a supernatural element that would haunt the protagonist
There isn't, it's a pure thriller, if I'm thinking of the same film...

I think mine is Stalker. It was pretty cool and immersive until I realised they expected you to take out 200 re spawning enemies per run with only the ammo a real person would carry...It would have been fine if the enemies didn't respawn I guess they forgot that doesn't happen in real life.

Probably true, but I cannot think of a Steven King novel/movie that does not involve a supernatural force screwing with the protagonist.

Gun fu is silly when you are trying to be lethal over 5-10 feet, but if your job is to lay down suppression fire who cares if you hit?
