I'm running out of things to watch (Jersey Shore just doesn't cut it, shocking yes). I'm hoping that you guys have the kindness to post your top 5 animes so I know what to buy.

I already own: Big O, S-cry-ed, Cowboy Bebop, Trinity Blood, Hellsing Ultimate, Evangelion, Gundam Wing, FLCL, Case Closed, Trigun, Samurai Champloo, Full Metal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell and Lupin III. Extensive, I know, but what am I missing that's a must have?

Double Edit: I don't want to buy any that will extend beyond 50 episodes.

Paranoia Agent for starters
You could check one of the tons of anime suggestion threads already made after that.

Try Gurren Lagann, it's essentially the exact opposite of Evangelion, but in a very, very, VERY good way.

Code Geass is also a good choice, think Death Note with hyper death robots.

Also, if you like Gundam Wing you should try Gundam 00, it's very similar to Wing in a good way.

I'll give you a list of what I have seen and consider quite good:

Code Geass, Death Note, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Macross(this includes all the different series minus Macross Seven which was just lulz), Akira, Gundam 00, 5 cm per second, Eureka 7, Elfen Lied,Sora No Otoshimono, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, and last, but by far my favorite right now, Bakemonogatari.

I would recommend Robotech: Macross Saga and definitely the original gundam if you like mechanime. Casshern Sins and Fist of the North Star are also quite good. If you liked Fullmetal alchemist then Fullmetal Alchemist:Brotherhood may interest you, it's kind of the same story but it more closely follows the manga and there's enough of a difference to be like a whole new experience. There's a bunch more I could throw at you but idk what you'd be interested in.

Come on really? No one mentions DBZ? Bleach is also good, Full Metal Alchemist is cool too. I haven't seen anime in a while, so I don't know of a lot of new ones.

bleach is only good until they go to the soul place then LOOK OUT

but if your in to new characters popping out from every corner that are ALL given needless back story then...

Hmm...based on that list, I'd recommend looking up Gurren Lagann, Rurouni Kenshin (the first OVA, Trust and Betrayal, at the least), and Outlaw Star.

Also, my standard recommendation of Princess Tutu still holds. I'd recommend Nanoha, but I wouldn't want to undercut a random person.

Hey there!

Well you have my top 3 covered.

1. Trigun (covered)
2. Cowboybebop (covered)
3. Samuri Champloo (covered)

I suggest taking a look at Record of Lodoss War. It is an oldy but a goody in my opinion. I believe there is a review here on the escapist.

I also suggest taking a look at Naruto. It's one of those that you either like or hate. I would suggest taking a look at the manga first to get a feel for it before you go looking to buy it. Here is a link to the first chapter of the manga. ( http://www.onemanga.com/Naruto/0/ )
I would suggest going to the main Naruto website where you could watch the newest anime episodes for free in ok quality. However it is currently very far into the series and will ruin alot. let me emphasize that with caps. DO NOT WATCH THE NEWEST ANIME EPISODES IT WILL RUIN ALOT OF THE STORY! Ahem... sorry for that.

P.S. Hellooooooo Escapist community! First post wooooooo!

(edit) Also take a look at the Tower of Druaga series. Its pretty decent and relatively short as well. 12ish episodes for each of the 2 halves of the series. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tower_of_Druaga_%28anime%29 )

Here's some things no one's mentioned yet.

If you'd like a long, interesting but not really action-oriented series, try Planetes.
Last Exile was fun and different, although I got lost at the ending.
If you want to see some serious old-school action/tragedy, do 1,2 and 4 of the Samurai X movies (skip 3, it's based on the kiddie-oriented TV show).
You can also give Hellsing a shot if you like weird.

Oh, almost forgot. If you can stand the really dumb music scoring, overly emo English voice dubbing and "extended action" dialogue, Claymore is a good series. Every time I watch it I want to fanedit the crap out of it- there's such a gem of a show going to waste in there.
