I was thinking about this earlier and couldn't find it on the search bar, so here you go.

Being the anime fan that I am, I always like those attacks whose name gets called as they're being used. For some reason it just seems more badass.

So, I wanted some Escapists' opinions on which of the many 'called' attacks are your favourites.

For me, it's a tie between Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann's "GIGA DRILL BREAK[ER]!!" (and all its glorious derivatives) and Goku's classic Kamehamaha.

EDIT: Spells count, of course. :)

depending on what it is, calling it our just shouting can have whatever your doing do extra damage.

Dio Brando's 'The World', or Za Warudo as it is more commonly known as after the meme struck. Because stopping time and landing a steamroller on your opponent is plainly bad ass.

DRAGON SLAVE! Although that is a spell, I do hope it counts :D There are little phrases more terrifying than the utterance of those chaos words.

This hand of mine is burning red! Its loud roar tells me to grasp victory! ERUPTING BURNING FINGER!

Or rather, the Japanese original: BAKUNETSU GOD FINGER!

That, and:

Most of the anime I watch don't have people giving names to their attacks/abilities.

Noein
RahXephon
Witch Hunter Robin
Cowboy Bebop
MS Gundam: 08th MS Team
Cromartie High School
Irresponsible Captain Tylor

Anyway, naming attacks is pretty lame. I guess "The World" Stand of Dio Brando is pretty much the least offensive and coolest example, since he actually HAS to say the name to activate the ability, as evidenced by one time where he started to say it but got punched in the face and his ability was canceled.

Dragon slave although it's not really the calling out of the attack, more the angry mob that gathers as a result of Lina casting it. Called attacks can work but not that often, specially when there's no given reason to be calling out the attack.

It's a shame that takes about 3 episodes for goku to do.

I'm not a huge anime fan, but I have been following Bleach pretty closely for awhile. I'd have to say Ichigo's "Getsuga Tenshou" attack sounds pretty badass, especially when he says it in hollow form.

Not the best video of it but the only OK one I could find on short notice :/

In my current favourite anime series obsession, theres only one attack name that needs to be said to make me wet myself, that word is simply "Scatter", I want that so badly!

Calling out attacks is one of the things I really don't like in most anime.

The only time it works IMO is when it's supposed to be stupid, like the completely over the top GIGA DRILL BREAKER or the parody MIKURU BEAM.

since the most well known are the dbz ones, i'll go with picollo's iconic attack "masankosappo!" (in the german version it's translated as "devil's spiral")
gohan's is cool as well "masenko!"(demon wave)

its actually a lost purpose all the way back from older cartoons. if they never named the attack while doing it, they would invent other ways of naming it if it was that important. in animes they went a step further and have someone explaining the attack or the person doing that attack giving a monologue of what it does. so there ya have it, its a common thing to do in animes (and older cartoons) that lost the original purpose but still does it right since we are all curious when we thing this example question:
what would happen if (input character name) did (input attack) to (input character)?

I watch Digimon, they all shout their attacks. My favourite being Terrier Tornado.

Calumon: Big Noogie Poke-You-In-The-Eye Power Beam!
Calumon: Hairy Goopy Blistering Ball!

Oh yeah, it's all about the Gekigun Flare, the most pointless shouted attack ever (it's a joke at the expense of called attacks) from the classic Martian Successor Nadesico from way back in the VHS days.
