Hello escapists.
This is for all you anime watchers and manga readers.
I know that this thread had repeated itself for thousands of times, but every thread differs due to the original topic starter.
It seems that I cannot find any more decent animes to watch, my list is compiled of only one recommendation (I've already watched the rest).
Therefore I turn to you for assistance.
I don't enjoy Shōnen manga and anime variants because... I don't like fan service, harmon animes and DBZ heroic heroes. Gokue led to the birth of Naruto, Bleach and One Piece.
Screw them, I won't watch or read it (Any more, I did had some samples from Naruto, One Piece and Bleach - Three seasons, Two seasons and Two season respectively.)
I can compile a list of what I already watched, but It'll take some time and I might come back and edit it if I've fogotten something.
Here it is:
- Full Metal Alchemist
- Full Metal Alchemist:Brotherhood
- Deathnote
- Samurai Champloo
- Cowboy Bebop
- Dragon Ball Kai
- Elfen Lied
EDIT: - Spice and Wolf
EDIT2: - Kuroshitsuji (A.K.A. Black butler). (I struggled through the first season, then quit it.)
I will probably add more.
Right, hit me with your best shot (...Je t'adore, ich liebe dich...)
The orginal Dragon Ball/z/

You watched Kai, now watch/read the REAL thing!

Also, Neon Genies Evgalveon is a must.

What about G gundam?

[sub]It's like DBZ with mechs![/sub]
I do not dare approach that stench of fillers.
Don't make me watch DBZ.
Then read the manga, no filler, norkt censored.

Dbz .ai only goes to cell saga right?

Sure, a lot of these will have already been mentioned, but I will write a list anyway. I consider the following some of the best anime ever:

Clannad - (Then watch After Story, yeah as if you weren't going to once you finished the first season!) It's pretty much just an amazing story, sure it's disguised as a kind of love/harem kinda thing, but it's an emotional roller coaster. It broke my heart in two with its sheer beauty.

FLCL - Everyone's said it, they're not wrong. Just watch it, 'kay?

Baccano! - An absolute epic. Incredible story, very funny but also very dark.

Durarara!! - The spiritual successor to Baccano!

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - Brilliant comedy, a little dark but very funny.

Bakemonogatari - Very funny, amazing art style, great themes, brutal.

Azumanga Daioh - Possibly the funniest anime I've seen.

Darker Than Black - Just very cool (Second season is a bit different, for some reason they decided what the anime was missing was a slightly loli girl with transformation sequences...)

Welcome to the NHK! - Fantastic! Psychological comedy, really brilliant story. Hard to explain.

ToraDora! - Yes, it's a romantic comedy. But it's the best one out there.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Yes, it's a mecha. Yes, it's also a shounen. But oh boy, is it an incredible series. (I actually can't stand mecha by the way, TTGL is STILL one of my favourite anime of all time)

Finally: The works of Satoshi Kon - Paranoia Agent, Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers and Paprika (They're the ones I've seen, but there are a few more)
Anything Satoshi Kon touched turned to gold.

P.s. Monster is a real epic, but a lot of people complain about its length. Brilliant mystery though. It could be called similar to Death Note (maybe?) except the main character isn't behind it all :p

Oh and, for manga, try:
Mirai Nikki, Medaka Box and History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi.
They could all probably fit the Shounen genre (Especially Kenichi, I imagine you might like that one the least, considering you didn't like One Piece or the other big two) but they're all very cool.

Just a quick edit: I've only recommended stuff I've finished, there are a bunch or series I'm currently watching that are really promising but I couldn't really judge them until completion. Ones that are looking to be very good so far are:
Kamichu!
Great Teacher Onizuka
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

Ultress

Monster is pretty good, with little to no filler in the whole 74 ep run

Baccano! is considerably shorter and considerably more awesome,it has gangsters,Train robbery,ax crazy killers, and Issac and Miria.

Eve no Jikan: Six episodes of concentrated greatness,go watch it

Hell Girl:Mostly a victim of the week revenge plots centered around sending people to hell. The first season is pretty good but the second season blows it away with a more realistic morality and playing more with the core concepts of the show.

Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei: A comedy series revolving a melodramatic teacher and his insane class making social commentary and being weird

For newer stuff: Madoka Magica is a really great deconstruction of the Magical Girl genre, it's pretty damn good.

Ano Hi Mita Hana No Namae O Bokutachi Wa Mada Shiranai is airing now and is a very sweet show about a group of friends reunited by the spirit of their dead friend. It's way better than I'm making it sound.

Hell girl was ""cute"" but it was all one episodes - it was either a hit or a miss.

I just finished watching Black Lagoon and I enjoyed it. I really like the way the show is written, because the main draw (at least for me) are the secondary characters.
Also, does the fact that almost every 'badass' in the show is a woman with guns remind you a bit of Tarantino?
I also finished watching FLCL. I still don't understand what I just F*cking saw. Wiki said it was a story of growing up and expressing your emotions (the main character a kid in around 11 years old). I don't get it. Can someone explain it to me?
I'm now going to watch Code Geass.
