Here's a topic not too uncommon to these forums, what good animes came out from 2013 til now? I've started watching Kill la kill, but i couldn't find anything else worthwhile, so, any suggestions? It could also be some of the older stuff, like i found this one really old space anime, Musekinin Kanchou Tylor (The Irresponsible Captain Tylor), from waaaay back in '93 and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anybody who is into that sort of thing.

Since the start of the year, the only two that really stand out to me are Noragami and D-Frag! for totally different reasons.

Noragami is about a not-well-known God who has to accept any menial request in order to keep in existence. He takes on the request of a girl who's kind of half-dead to effectively bring her completely back to life and it all kind of goes from there. It's not like anything I've seen before, and I see it as something of a hidden gem.

D-Frag! is your standard setup where a guy joins a school club full of girls (in this instance it's a game-creation-club). Almost everyone in the show is batshit crazy except for the main character who's basically the straight man to all the jokes. It sounds truly uninspired but I found it completely hilarious and not like many others.

Not counting the obvious, huge names like Shingeki and Kill La Kill...

2013 to 2014 series ranging from OK to excellent in no particular order, off the top of my head... I'll undoubtedly miss out some real great series. But here goes:

Ginga Kikoutai MJP (Mecha) ****.
Yuyushiki (moe slice comedy) *****.
Arpeggio Blue Steel (naval dystopia /w moe) ***.
Sekai de Ichiban (ecchi women's wrestling) ***.
Monogatari (needs no introduction) *****.
Jormungand + Jormungand New Order (military drama) *****.
Kyousougiga (misc, esoteric) ****.
Mekaku City Actors (just watch it) *****.
Isshuukan Friends (feels) ****.

I'm sure there are tonnes I'm missing, actually. But those are pretty good, and a good spread of genres. Not all of them are available on CR though.

Do you happen to know where I can get my hands on Shingeki?

I have only been suggested 'definitely legal' methods, and I'd like a legitimate method. I live in the UK, if that makes a difference.

OT: How about JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders? Been around for the longest time, but the recent iteration is as recent as it gets!

We both do.

This is a weird time for Shingeki. Something is happening with the DVDs that means CR has dropped the first half of all the episodes from its site, with the latter half to be dropped while the first half return at a later date. Finally, they'll all return at the end of... whatever it is exactly that's going on. Yeah. And I believe this is happening on all legitimate streaming sources for Shingeki simultaneously.

Until the end of this rigmarole, there's no place to legally watch the whole series to the best of my knowledge. In a couple of weeks, get a crunchyroll.uk subscription and take a look. It might be over.

OT: I'd like to add ongoing series of this season Selector Infected WIXOSS to my earlier recommendations. But just like Mekaku City Actors of this season and Jormungand of 2013, you'll have to go off the beaten path (so to speak...) to watch it in the UK.

Edit: Oh man, what the fuck's wrong with me. No Game No Life, best/healthiest/colouringest anime this season. CR has it. Go watch it. Everyone.

Edit 2: NGNL isn't really the best of the season, but it's pretty good. Also, +1 for all Jojos.

I highly recommend Log Horizon, best anime about an MMORPG around.
I tried to get into this, but it seemed like an SAO knockoff with much worse animation and a staggeringly dull protagonist.

If you could choose one episode to be an ambassador for the series, specifically an ambassador to doubters who stopped watching early on, which one would it be?

Recent Personal favorites:

Witchcraft Works - A Harry Potter/Twilight fanfiction, where Bella is the guy and Edward is the girl. Great comedic timing.

Samurai Flamenco - The premise is the same as KickAss. A guy with no super powers tries to be a superhero. However, it's more of a optimistic celebration of heroes. It's a 'fun' show.

Chihayafuru - Sports anime where a girl forms a karuta (A Japanese card game) team, so she can be the greatest player in the world. You don't need to know the rules to the game to enjoy it.

Recommended Shows:

Watamote - Socially stunted girl tries to be popular.

Noragami - Seconded

Shin Sekai Yori - Science fiction. Explores what a society of super humans would look like. It's easily one of the best sci-fi anime out there.

Damn... thanks for providing the answer, but that is not the answer I was hoping for.

I saw that on crunchy roll it started at like halfway through, so I was just like 'WTF RAGE QUIT' and tried to look elsewhere, but couldn't find it.

Some people are saying it's available on US Netflix now, but that's obviously not helpful for me.

The DVD doesn't seem to be out before September...

I just want to watch it now and pay for it!! WHY WON'T THEY TAKE MY MONEY!??

I can confirm that it's on US Netflix, and has been for a couple months now at least. Amazon tells me the DVD version will ship on June 3, though.

You've got to be somewhere other than the UK then?

Because mine says 15th September release date, which is so far away! So lame, don't get what's going on, when it was available online before.

No problem,

I have to admit that I wrote it off as an SAO clone too, but I dislike SAO so I was hoping it could be better. The first thing you have to accept is that it's not an action show like SAO. Anyway I would say the conclusion to the second arc of the series, Episode 9, is a really good one. Also just in case it matters Log Horizon is from the same author as Maou Yuusha.

i can second recommendations for Noragami, one week friends, log horizon and no game, no life all are great for different reasons.

I'd also recommend:

The world is still beautiful (this one is just turning into a charming love story but still sprinkled with action and political maneuvering and I love how the opening grows and evolves with each eps.)

Mushi-shi (first season is on Hulu, second on crunchyroll. based highly on Japanese mythology each eps. is a stand alone story akin to fables or morality plays. not all of them have happy endings but they tend to range from good to really good in quality.)

Hunter X Hunter (the best paced shonen out there. I find that it plays with tropes a bit and has some incredibly good action. it is a long show though at 100+ and not done yet and it does get much darker as things go on it's a big investment if that's not your kind of thing but if you like this genre at all give it a shot.

Nagi no Asukara (this one is slow at the start but just beautiful a character drama that really makes you feel like you know these characters also if you try and like this one I'd suggest From the new world which has a similar feel but with magic and post apocalyptic and a much darker feel to the last half in particular.)

Baccano! (Issac and Mira are awesome and crazy)

i thought it went without saying though but if you like Kill la kill you might want to try out Gurren Lagann made by many of the same people or the show that came out just before Kill la Kill, Atack on Titan. It's good but ever so slightly over hyped though defiantly worth a watch.

Seconded No Game No Life, if we're counting that as close enough to 2013. I'll just add that a surprising number of anime ongoing this season are fuckin' good. Mahouka and No Game have some amazing animation, Mahouka in overall quality and style in anything and everything it does and No Game has a really unique and vibrant colouring scheme.

Also Gokukoku no Brynhildr (or Brynhildr in the Darkness) is good as well.

"So how are you a witch anyway?"

"Surgery. Surgery and drugs."

If you ever wanted to know how magic would be pulled off in real life, here's your dark, depressing, bleeding from every single place imaginable answer.

From 2013 proper i'll add Watamote for one of the best comedy animes i've seen for awhile (if you can handle some of the most cringeworthy scenes ever ohgodTomokowhy) and Log Horizon AKA Sword Art Online but good (shots fired)

Log Horizon is an MMORPG setting that is NOT about how they find their way out. Finally something admitting that some people would actually not mind living in an MMORPG and how it's cool as hell. It's character driven and not solely about action but rather the characters and how the world is and is not the same as the MMO Elder Tale. They take stuff in a new direction like how the respawn points are still online so people legitimately are immortal and they don't stop for fucking fishing filler. What is this, Runescape? I still can't get over that...

Well, I'll throw out some of my favorite anime from 2013 onwards, all of which on the good ol' Crunchyroll, in no particular order really, just the ones off the top of my head.

First and foremost, World Conquest Zvesda Plot. My god do I love this show. It's got this Evil Con Carne feel to it, being about an incompetent group of Supervillains out to conquer the world. Hence the title.

Following up that is Tonari no Seki-kun this is a short series, and by that I mean the episodes are very short, like five minutes. It normally involves the eponymous Seki and all the wonderful ways he doesn't pay attention in class. Hi-jinks ensue.

Next up is the very oddly titled My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Romantic Comedy. What a mouthful, but such a funny show. Basically, a high school student named Kanade has a very strange affliction. Randomly, he will be forced to make a choice between one of two outcomes, usually neither of which have a positive outcome for him. Cue more Hi-jinks.

to continue with oddly named series, there's My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU I gotta be honest, I love this anime solely for the main character, named Hachiman. A cynical, snarky asshole who everyone hates. Maybe I just relate to him, I dunno. Still a hearty recommendation from me.

Last, and certainly not least, is the absolutely wonderful Henneko: The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat Probably my new favorite romantic comedy. The series follows the aforementioned "Hentai Prince" himself, Yoko Yokodera, a giant pervert. He finds a wish granting statue and wishes to be more open with women, which results in a Liar Liar-esque situation in which he literally must always say what's on his mind. Despite how juvenile it might sound, the story really picks up a couple episodes in, and I have to admit, the ending was quite the tearjerker.

There you have it. I have to admit, I'm not the best at giving synopsis's (synopses? Synopsises?), as I like to keep them as brief as possible.

Yes, that matters a lot. I fucking love Maou Yuusha, I was gutted (but not surprised) to learn that it wasn't getting a second series.

Okay, I'll give LH another go! Thanks for taking the time.

YES.

I watched EyeReaper's other recommendations but I don't recall them well enough to make a confident recommendation of my own.
