Heyooooo all you fellow Escapists. I, The Great and Narcissistic Powerful Madara would like to discuss with you all the topic of Anime.
Anime, aside from Video Games and Building Gundam Models, has honestly been one of the most entertaining mediums I've experienced in my life. To some it may seem like nothing more than cartoons, but there have also been animes that go one step beyond the purpose of just simply entertaining. Some have gone so far as to take on a philosophical stand point and develop a story centered around that one issue.
Some have made their goal to engage and immerse the viewer into its wild and other-worldly lore and characters while carefully weaving the story within its own limits, creating a suspension of disbelief of what is possible and what isn't.
And finally some have been made just to go completely over the top in everything it does, giving it more freedom to do what most movies or live action shows are completely incapable of.
These are just a few of the ways that if executed properly, an anime can completely captivate you and blow your mind at how good it is. For me there were 3 animes as of recent that have always left me on the edge with each and every episode.
[HEADING=2]JoJo's Bizarre Adventure[/HEADING]
What can I say? This anime is so over the top in its manliness and at how utterly fabulous it is with its presentation. The poses, the characters, the colors, the music composition and the story, when meshed together, are all a sight to behold for any true anime fan. Not to mention that all 8 parts of the Manga are being animated by David Productions. I can't express just how much I love this series now that it is getting the anime treatment it so deserves. Breathtaking to say the least.
[HEADING=2]Fate/Zero[/HEADING]
This anime was by far one of the best animes I've ever seen. A prequel to the absolute mediocre anime, Fate Stay/Night (I don't recommend seeing it) that took place 10 years before Stay/Night. The anime is about Mages summoning famous heroes and figures throughout history to wage a war on one another for the Holy Grail that will grant their wishes. However this anime has so many twists and turns along with so many mature themes that can't be presented in a simple Protagonist vs Antagonist format. There is no right or wrong side in this Holy Grail War. It is the simple clash of ideals from different time periods and exactly how far people are willing to go to pursue their dreams and what they're willing to throw away. The Anime is top notch and one of the best stories ever told as historic figures like King Arthur, Diramuid, Alexander the Great and Gilgamesh wage war on one another in hopes for their own ideals and visions of the world.
[HEADING=2] Attack On Titan [/HEADING]
The series is about humanity living inside gigantic walls so as to keep itself safe from Titans. The Titans are gigantic humans who have no sexual organs nor do they eat anything else except humans. So their entire existence is a freaking mystery and all within the first 5 episodes do we get to experience true badassery and loads of death. But what made this anime a true experience is it brings to light the idea of what is mankind to do when we are no longer at the top of the food chain and are faced with the most hopeless of odds as we try and pursue a sense of freedom while living like livestock?
What really blew me away about this anime is how absolutely beautiful the animation quality is and the music that is incorporated in both the opening and episodes. That and the fact at how absolutely fucking dark it is. In the first episode we see people get eaten by the titans in such a gruesome fashion. On top of that, the way it looks, it seems that we may not have a happy ending and I'm just fine with that.
It's still a running anime that airs once a week and to say that I'm anxiously waiting for the next episode would be a serious understatement.
So that leaves the question, my fellow escapists:
