As cynical as this sounds, I'm pretty sure this will get vetoed, not because it's a horrible infringement on personal freedoms, not because Obama's a good president, but because it's an election year.

Pretty much everyone I work with was talking about this the day after it passed the senate. People know about it, even though our news stations are keeping it pretty quiet (thanks guys). Obama's not going to sign it, because doing so will severely hurt his chances in the election. Part of me even wonders if this whole mess isn't a ploy to boost Obama's popularity when he veto's it.

Like I said, cynical outlook, but there it is.

Anon thinks V for Vendetta is super serious. Though, this time, they dropped that and went to the source, talking about Guy Fawkes. I'm sure he'd be really fucking opposed to assassinations.
Unfortunately, this is what you get when Douchebags use historical iconography. Irony and lulz ensue. And sadly, I'll probably be ranted at for pointing this out, because history isn't as important as what things mean now. Or something.

Ok, yeah, true, but normally I see them pretending to be big and scary over less tangible things.
They've done "serious" issues before, as well, it's just that 80% or more of the time they end up talking big and bad about tripe.

Well, for the most part. We don't have anything like that, but the government tends to play fast and loose with the rights of Aboriginals, for example.
I wouldn't exactly say they play fast and loose with the rights of Aboriginals, with any government there will be screw ups with the indigenous population, however we are doing very well. Secondly that comment has nothing to do with the internet, why mention it?

On topic, dont care. It doesn't matter what the US legislative authority does people will find ways round it. As Dr. Malcolm said in Jurassic Park; Life finds a way :D

"Doing very well"? By what measure?

And, yeah, nothing to do with the internet, but it's oppresion created (at least in part) by politicians. So, political oppression.

Very, VERY glad I don't live in America right now. Here's hoping that bill doesn't get passed.
Also, as someone else already mentioned, perhaps this is a step back towards the anon I used to love.

Well I could mention the apology, the efforts made with centrelink, introduction of murri courts. There are many iniatives being instigated by state and federal governments. They are attempting to right the wrongs of the past. Trial and error will see us all through.

Also our government is too stupid to understand oppression, really do you think we are oppressed in our little cosy world right now? Considering everyones beef is with the bank for not lowering interest rates. I would say we are a very unoppressed people. Go to Zimbabwe or China then come back here and tell me we are oppressed :)

Attempting, and might see us through. Hopefully they will, but I'm speaking merely of what things are like now.

Who is "we"? Do Aboriginal people, many of whom have been fucked over by the government for decades, not count as being part of "us"?

Yes, I, and the vast majority of Australians are not being oppressed by the government. That's very different from the government not oppressing any Australians.

I looked all over the websites dedicated to stopping SOPA that update hour to hour, as well as the House's website it's self, all of them seem to say that both SOPA and PROTECT IP haven't been voted on yet in the House and Senate respectively.

I'm finding no evidence that either of them have gotten passed.
NDAA is not SOPA. SOPA is internet censorship. NDAA basically allows the government to detain foreigners for as long as they feel like, for whatever reason they feel like, with absolutely no accountability.

Oh and it's worded such that it does not exclude US Citizens from its reach.
Okay, I'm only saying this one more time...
I MADE A MISTAKE, I HAD NOT WATCHED THE VIDEO YET WHEN I POSTED THAT!
Sorry for the cpaslock, but I've said this 3 times now, damn do I regret that post...

...That message was so bloody cheesy. It's not all madness and oppression in America, at least the last time I visited. And you don't need a riot; you need new leaders.
I am far from advocating a riot, nor do I see anyone else doing the same. Anon is threatening to do "their thing."

Some who will, at the very least, not even begin to suggest putting up such a humbug of a bill.
A huge issue for me is that 93 Senators voted in favor of this bill, including both Senators from my state.

Some, who actually have passed math and calculus so they won't fuck the entire economy up.
Cute. I freely admit my inability to fully grasp the US economy and how to run it. The government needs individuals who can balance myriad issues in order to right the economy. A proficiency in various forms of mathematics will not be sufficient.

Wouldn't surprise me if the US did something like this. Not unexpected in my opinion.

I said it before and will say it again, your American politicians are crazy.

Ugh, screw Anon, that's right I said it. They're a bunch of divas who probably just saw the movie and didn't bother reading the comic. That they are so caught up on setting events on the fifth of November means one of two things:
1. They are too caught up on ripping off V for Vendetta to bother having originality or initiative
2. They are doing blatant electioneering.

I despise the act, but Anon is like PETA or the NAACP, idiots who want to insert themselves into situations to puff themselves up rather than contribute to a solution.

Oh big deal, I could don a V mask and use voice editing software and claim that I'm speaking on behalf of 'Anonymous' for all the fucking solidarity they have.

What, why didn't the White House veto it? I'm surprised its gotten this far. This is going to blow up and its going to get on everyones clothes.
It's because after it passes there's a period of time that it sits on the president's desk before he either signs it into law or vetoes it. Currently we're in that desk sitting period while he bargains it out with congress not to over turn the veto.
