... and we should only screw with Australia if they start infringing upon our rights.
This is how oppression stars. Despite how in-directly it effects us, everyone should help to free other peoples, despite their country ect.
and this is not an attack on you, just used as a point.
So which group are the oppressors, here? I honestly can't tell.
The oppressors(from my totally biased point of view) is the government of Australia. They are censoring something public, whatever that might be. Now the first censor of the internet may be for good reasons/intentions. But once a new PM comes around what stops him from censoring sites like this?

Well, you've got a point. Once they censor some of the Internet, they're going to want to censor all of it. Then we won't have any fun at all. We won't even be able to play violent MMOs.

Exactly. And once we can't do that all of our violent impulses will start to take over.
And then BAM!!! WW3

Not the lobbying method I would have used but, and I really never thought I'd say this, go Anonymous! As one of the free media left that isn't overly policed I think it's important to keep the internet censorship free and find other more effective ways of cracking down on child pornography etc.

Either way, a government spokesman said the attack was misguided since the internet filtering plan only proposed to block content such as child porn and images depicting rape and bestiality.
That is what angered Anonymous. But still, go hackers!

?The campaign that they?re mounting is erroneous and misinformed,? the spokesman said.
...
The governments duty to its citizens is to provide laws and constitutions to protect us, not to setup blocklists and censor content. I chose what I want to see and not see.

And the excuse that its only for objectionable content, well, this is only the start. Where will it end? Critising the government? Cussing online? Give them a hand and they are sure to take an arm. Fuck that, no to government censorship of any kind online.

Some things I really don't bother about, but seriously, hacking the internet in protest. Stupidity at it's finest. If you guys fuck up my internet more I'll be so pissed.

On top of that, how is it not an attack on rights? While I'm not going to be out in the street with my 2+2=5 placard hurling molotovs at government buildings, its also pretty clear that having a secret list of blockable sites hidden from the public, and punishing anyone who publishes said list with $10,000 fines is an attack on individuals rights.
They're not on some secret list; they're publicised and they're mainly child porn sites and other sites of similar ilk. Whoop-dee-doo. I'm really feeling badly treated that fat fappers can't look at kids getting raped anymore.

Anyway, I lived with Chinese site blocks for years; it's not as bad as one might think. Wikipedia sometimes got blocked, and so did youtube, but it's a good thing that wikipedia got blocked - peice of crap source finds it's way into too many little kid's essays and gives them a get-out-of-jail-free card for not studying hard - and they had three sites that did exactly what youtube did, without airing bullshit sensationalist crap. And who cares if CNN gets cut out? Consider media's machinations for a while and you might find out that the people who own those stations don't care about the news, they run their news like an hour long commercial and get their ratings that way. There is no contemporary news story that lacks spin.

I don't care if Gears of War is banned - kiss my ass FPSers that game's a vicious pile of crap. I don't care if the next game to depict extreme violence gets banned - maybe then Australia's youth won't turn into the German, or USA stereotype kids who gunned down fellow students and crap and the future.

I also don't care if some gay internet comic gets banned - that and I hope 4chan gets banned. I'm sure that a year or so after those people got stripped of their respective opiates then they'll think the same thing: "Eh, it was a waste of life anyway, sitting on the computer 24/7"

I hate the internet, it makes people think they have some kind of right, some kind of say, when they've done fuck all to deserve it. Work hard at studies, makes lots of friends, get elected to office and make a difference, but don't think you have any say in the way things are run because you spend all your daylight hours with your chode in ur hand.

(God that was fun to write lol)
You sir, are awesome, you have officially won ten-million cookies.

For all you lovers of Furry, Hentai etc. in Australia, you do realise this will make furry and hentai illegal right? Because 1) Furry is considered beastiality 2) Hentai often contains under-age people partaking in sexual intercourse. So all you sick fucks, go get all angry for the people!

Except for the fact that they have a list of banned websites that nobody is allowed to look at, and that it's illegal to link to any of these websites, even though there's no way to know which websites are on this list since it isn't avaliable to anyone.

Thankfully they got rid of that list once Wikileaks got ahold of it, but still this is a horrible, horrible idea. This is really on Chinese/Iranian levels of censorship.
Indeed... 'Child porn' is just the excuse the government uses to try and make people think it is a good idea. "Oh won't anyone think of the children" is the response they are going for, knowing that most people will irrationally act to the illusion that a child is in danger. By giving this excuse they know the majority won't look any further, and realise this issue goes much further then 'undesired porn.'

Remember, we don't' get a say what goes onto the banned list! A small body put into power by the government can amend it any moment they want, on a whim, without telling us what they are doing. What sites have been able to get their hands on the leaked documents have all reported the vast majority are NOT porn sites. Yet that is the first excuse that comes out of their mouths when they try and push the idea, that only rape and child porn sites will be affected.

Hell the sites themselves who reported the leaks and how the government is using this censorship to block legit sites are now, themselves, on the banned list... that alone should say something.

Oh yeah, and it took a teenager less then ten minutes to break the program. If for nothing more we shouldn't be letting the government undertake this plan it is how ineffective it will actually be. It wastes so much money and in the end it will be for nothing, so why should we pay for what everyone in the industry clearly sees as a no-go project?

Of course Anonymous would want to protest this, even if what that government spokesman said is true. Most of us know of a certain cesspool of the internet, that shall remain unnamed, which Anonymous uses as its unofficial base of operations; and we all know that it contains the aforementioned child pornography and bestiality.
Actually, the mods have cleaned up 4chan a lot. It's now a ban-able suspense to upload child porn and suspension worthy to mention it.
Really? That seems almost unbelievable... even /b/?

In a way, there is still lots of porn, it's just more normal and less shock pic.
