Anonymous Says It's Not Finished With Sony

Did anyone else notice that Anonymous is attacking Sony for invading people's privacy and stifling the free flow of information in the same breath. So basically they are saying everyone should have free access to all information, and by all I mean all of yours, not mine.

I do think Sony has overstepped the boundaries of consumer "rights" (assuming people actually even have rights), but protesting won't do much.

As for not buying Sony products, I think the only one I own is my PS3 so I guess I'm good there. Oh wait I did buy my girlfriend a Sony camera just over a year ago for her bday. Ok so that's 2. But I swear that's all! =P

Just out of curiosity, in what way have they done this? Youtube and Paypal should not have handed over that information so lightly, but is it really wrong for Sony to ask? Anyone could do that. If anything, it should serve as a strong reminder that nobody is ever "hidden" online, not even if they're on TOR.

It's still perfectly legal to mod your PS3 in any way you see fit, you just aren't allowed to upload parts of the firmware (in Hotz's case, the keys) to the Internet. This is nothing new.

I don't mean to sound like a dick, I'm just not seeing it.

Sony is trying to be the more consumer friendly company there is, free online services, with very good products that are also not Playstation 3. I don't know about you but jailbreaking a Sony TV ain't worth it, or the camera, or the stereo, or even the headphones. How do you jailbreak headphones? Anyways, buying a Sony product doesn't mean "SONY NOW OWNS YOUR SOUL!"

And I'm not throwing away an HD TV, my Dad's old stereo used in the horse barn, and a pair of very nice headphones to say they are invading my privacy. The only thing I get from them is just a friendly weekly email. I don't hear about them making criminal background checks on me everyday. And if they are I pity the fool who has that job.

Also, I'm going to support Sony with an all day gaming marathon on my PS3 on a Sony HD TV, getting some good DLC off of PSN, and listening to music off of a Sony stereo. I support neither Sony or Anonymous, I SUPPORT THE GAMERS!

Good they have every right to protest in this manner and its legal as long as they don't impede other people's ability to buy products this is an actual form of protest that is legal and effective

Has Anonymous accomplished anything worthwhile? All this "news" talking about their digital take-down lists is getting really boring.

As far as I can see, they have not had any lasting effect, and the most effect they had on people like the general public was temporarily taking down the servers of a website or two.

Correct me if I'm wrong, naturally. It's just what I see.

They released those illegal plans between HBGary and Bank of America that were going to attack Wikileaks using fraud and slander.

You know, I liked Alan Moore's story and all but I am getting a little tired of seeing that damn mask.

Not trying to be a dick, but Alan Moore isn't the one who came up with that mask, its a Guy Fawkes' mask... from, well, Guy Fawkes... just go look it up.

But they're not referencing Guy Fawkes, they're referencing V for Vendetta.

Also, does anyone find it problematic that they're trying to simultaneously stand up for privacy and free information?

I find it funny that a very large percentage of anonymous is "edgy" 14 year olds who don't even know what they're talking about the other half are the people that were going to use Geohotz stuff to pirate games. either way anonymous doesn't give a shit about anyones "freedom" they just wan't to be able to say "Yeah I was a part of that, Look I was cool and I had power."
