I have mixed feelings about Anonymous. I don't love them; I don't hate them. But, I think this is really cool. Bravo, guys!

Do you hate them less now?
No. Shooting four kids, then rescuing a puppy, then returning to shooting kids, does not excuse the fact that you're shooting kids.

wait wait wait, did you just compare DDOS attacks to the murder of children? What????

taking the attitude "every one should have free speech, provided I agree with them" will not win anon any support, taking down Fox website would be a bad move.

The lot of you people are missing the point entirely. Fox's actual guilt in the matter is secondary in importance to the fact that retribution and justice are things that both have to happen through legal institutions. Whether or not Fox actually deserves this treatment or not (pro-tip: deserts are a myth, this can only ever be pejorative), letting Anon simply hack the antagonist du jour without any recourse to law sets really really dangerous precedents. If Fox News is really and truly guilty of libel, sue them. Take them to court. They've lost libel cases before. If damages can be proven, reparations can be made. Don't let some self-righteous hackers enact justice for you.

Seriously, WHY?

And that pre-programmed voice completely undermines what little gravity the statement had.
because tho Fox news are generally assholes, they've never really given anonymous a specific reason to attack them
I dont really believe the reason they are attacking them is good enough at all. If they are attacking them because of the slander against the protesters I think its pretty stupid and poor excuse to attack Fox. They should at least choose a better reason imo.

The hack seems irrelevant to me. Now that the statement has been made, I imagine the Fox opinion people will use the threat as an example of liberal bias, and their need to hide behind an anonymous face, and point out everything negative about anonymous and systematically relate it to a predetermined rhetoric. Anonymous would probably do more harm to Fox not by attacking them directly, but by attacking the things they state to be good, such as holes in certain right wing policies they have supported and damaging their credibility to their own viewer base.

So what about the other craptastic "news" networks? Or are we back to "Fox News is bad mmmkay?" Yeah they're bad, but it's like pointing to a single turd in a massive pile of turds and saying "This is a turd." Great job skippy.

TV makes the darkest corner of 4chan look interesting and intellingent.

Uh, isn't this an obstruction of free speech? Doesn't that kind of make it...illegal? Fox news is calling the protestors horrible things...and the protestors are calling god knows how many people terrible things. The way I see it it breaks even.
That's why I make fun of Anonymous so much. For all their support of free speech, they are fast to work against it. But as far legality is concerned I don't think Anonymous could care any less. Them being hacktivists and all.

Well, Fox news has been a complete ass in it's reporting to say the least, and blatant stupidity to say even less, and Fox is well withing it's area of getting an ass whooping. But seriously? all the shit Fox news has caused and the best anonymous comes up with is shutting down their website? woop-de-fucking-doo, who cares? it's a freaking website, anonymous doesn't seem to understand that Fox has this thing called a NEWS BROADCAST and CHANNEL NETWORKS, that allow them to broadcast whatever they want, whenever they want. Makes me think anonymous is a joke, oh wait, they are.

thats what I was kinda thinking. Anon has always been strong advocates of the freedom of speech, even if what someone has to say is incredibly stupid, so this seems a bit out of place. I guess they thought the Occupy movement was important enough to try to make sure people hear unbiased truth; not that attacking Fox's website will do a whole lot,

Boring.

Call me back when some really intelligent and forward thinking programmers/hackers, who understand gravitas, step up to deliver something truly shocking on November 5... This is the internet equivalent of schoolyard antics.

Anonymous is a strange animal.

It's a mask that anyone can wear, and those who wear it don't even know each other. And have no control over each other. This means that ANYONE can 'join it' to say it supports his cause, and the whole... um... movement?... has to take the rap for him. It could be a competent hacker there, it could be a bored kid who knows how to use Audacity and Photoshop.

If he wasn't already dead, it could be Hitler. And there wouldn't be a damn thing Anonymous could do to stop him saying he's one of them. He wouldn't even be LYING.

Every person in Anonymous isn't responsible for this... I am sure there are those among them who disagree with this poster's message. It's a platform for EVERYONE, really... which is a bit irresponsible, methinks. Everyone deserves to speak, but not everyone gets to speak with my voice. Small and insignificant and potentially wrong as it is, it's my voice, damn it, and I can afford to stand by what it says. (Please don't hack me, that would not be cool.)

That said, I'll be interested to see what happens. Not gonna give Fox the traffic, meself, but I'm sure the Daily Show will fill me in. :p

Hate speech is not freedom of speech.

Good riddance if FOX News dies as a result of this. They've been nothing but a right-wing propaganda machine since the start, ruining everything for us honest citizens. "Unbiased" indeed. Those motherfuckers need to be taught a lesson in humility.
Hate speech is an opinion. While I do not agree with FOX I realize they have the right to express their ideas in a peaceful manner. That is, by definition, freedom of speech.

I'll leave you with this to think about...

Good riddance if Annon dies as a result of this. They've been nothing but a hypocritical propaganda machine since the start, ruining everything for us honest citizens. "For the people" indeed. Those [censored as to protect myself from a "hurt feelings" report] need to be taught a lesson in humility.

How do you know what Fox is saying about the protestors is not true? Some of them could be "...filthy, disgusting and dirty...". In fact, I would bet my life that some are "...filthy, disgusting and dirty...".
Of course, that's not what they're saying.

So what's with the apologetics?
O RILLY???

"Fox is now the target of Anonymous because of their continued propaganda against the Occupations," the woman's voice says. "They use words such as filthy, disgusting and dirty to describe the protesters. Since they will not stop belittling the occupiers, we will simply shut them down." (See OP)

Also, when exactly did I apologies or sound apologetic?

One thing that really bugs me about this article....

IT'S GUY FAWKES NIGHT. NIGHT! The 5th of November is a normal day, up until it gets dark, at which point we promptly try and ignite the sky with gunpowder.

I support any attempt to silence Fox News. God damn, do I hate Fox. They're like the daily mail, only more irritating because they don't publish a newspaper over here that I can use to wipe my arse with.

Fuck the both of them.

Not entirely sure I agree with the occupy protests, but I know little about them so am in no position to comment as to whether they're right or wrong.

Ok, since you insist on being so cryptic.

They (The Escapist) quotes them (Anonymous) that says those (FOX) say that the other them (Protestors) are "...filthy, disgusting and dirty...".

If there is any misinformation here it came from Annon, because this right here is a direct quote from their video.

"Fox is now the target of Anonymous because of their continued propaganda against the Occupations," the woman's voice says. "They use words such as filthy, disgusting and dirty to describe the protesters. Since they will not stop belittling the occupiers, we will simply shut them down."

If you would like to correct that misinformation come out and do so.
